I preferred it to Loveless desu.
But then I don't really "get" most shoegaze records.
Easily their best album
this
it's pretty chill, nice to listen while stoned
However, you're absolutely retarded and an underaged tourist if you prefer mbv over Loveless
>Loveless is amazing!!! It's the best My Bloody Valentine album!!!!
Filtered pleb. Just as good as Loveless
so you think isn't anything is their best album? it has some great songs, but loveless is absolutely their best album
>However, you're absolutely retarded and an underaged tourist if you prefer mbv over Loveless
I don't actually like either of them very much. What now?
>look at me guys my opinion is CONTRARY to what most people believe so therefore I am smarter and not a dumb NPC like you!!
I bet you can't even articulate why mbv is better you stupid underaged contrarian
then you don't like shoegaze, which is fine and all but you're most likely a pleb.
I like certain takes on shoegaze, but yeah you're right. Pop music with the reverb turned up generally doesn't do much for me.
Loveless is more consistently good, but Only Tomorrow, Who Sees You, and If I Am are the best songs on the album
>Pop music with the reverb turned up
that's not what shoegaze is but whatever, to each his own.
>it's pretty chill, nice to listen while stoned
this is almost dismissal of it's subtle and complex songwriting. I love loveless too but they are different at their core. It's obvious to me that they attempted to make a night record to loveless' day. very gloomy and dark.
>However, you're absolutely retarded and an underaged tourist if you prefer mbv over Loveless
Seems odd to be calling other people tourists while defending one of the most tourist records of all time.
I've listened to many shoegaze albums. Loveless is still the undisputed masterpiece. Just because it's "entry-level" and "tourist" doesn't diminish that fact.
Sounds like the sort of thing a tourist would say.
Then what's YOUR masterpiece, if you're such a "patrishun"
No need to get so defensive about your tourism.
m b v
Mongoloid contrarian spotted
opinion discarded then
>insults me
>I retort back
>"Stop acting so defensive!"
Dumb brainlet. C'mon, I'm waiting for you to actually show that I'm a "tourist," or are you just a trolling, actual tourist from Yea Forums with nothing of substance to add?
I think the thread actually went like this:
>You're all tourists for liking the more obscure album by a band!
>That's not what a tourist is.
>OMG I'M NOT A TOURIST! STOP HURTING MY FEELINGS!
m b v is a logical progression from Loveless, it just isn't what the fans wanted. The latter two-thirds of the album is basically them deconstructing Loveless down to its basic components and then experimenting with the pieces.
I love Loveless and Isn't Anything, and their early post-punk stuff is neat. But yeah, I was really disappointed with mbv, and the fact it got such good reviews is honestly mysterious to me.
Epic strawman my dude, yeah that's totally what happened.
Look, if you unironically prefer mbv over Loveless then you obviously are are not familiar with the genre and are a tourist. Either that, or you're a brainlet contrarian. Those are the facts, deal with it.
Cool take.
But if you unironically fail to realise that taste is subjective and think the most popular album in a genre is the objective best, then I've got news for you.
I can respect people listening to Loveless over mbv, but you can't say that loveless is better. Loveless is an experience made to listen from start to finish and not just "DUHH CLOSE MY EYEES", the entire album flows with the same floaty and dreamy atmosphere that makes it the example of noise pop/shoegaze. mbv is more song oriented and present a lot of variety in the production and sound like heard on Eps pre-Loveless, being even more My Bloody than Loveless.
When I want that atmosphere I listen to the entire of Loveless. When I want to listen to anything on the road I just tune mbv or the Eps comp.
I seriously think Loveless is overrated because people just listen to it and want the other albums to sound the same. Go listen to Astrobrite, Trementina or some other stuff.
>think the most popular album in a genre is the objective best
I never said that, stop misconstruing what I said you disingenuous hack. Loveless is genre-defining and highly influential. It's a masterpiece of song creating and of an album experience. mbv is a good album but it's nowhere near as ambitious or influential as Loveless. To think that Loveless is inferior to mbv is to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the shogaze genre. It means that you're a fucking tourist.
>m b v
>song oriented
One of the main goals of the album was to blur song structure, they didn't want an obvious sense of beginning/middle/end to these songs. Only New You feels like it's really trying to be a conventional tune, maybe If I Am as well.
Whatever you say, Mr. Number-7-On-RYM's-All-Time-Chart.
Song structure is a totally different topic than song oriented records. I was talking about the structure of the album where it focus on individual songs (mbv) than album atmosphere based (Loveless).
>popular =, bad!
Thank you for proving my point that you're a contrarian retard
And thank YOU for proving MY point that you don't know what a tourist is.
m b v is less influential but it's definitely more ambitious. Loveless is the culmination of a decade's worth of sound searching and a focused expression of the results of said searching. It's incredible what Shields accomplished but it's rather one-dimensional in its aims. A revolutionary trick, but a single trick all the same. m b v sees Shields, now a master of his craft, break beyond Loveless' formula to a wider sonic palate and still more ambient songwriting. It isn't breaking the door down like Loveless did but he didn't need to repeat that, he already innovated with this method once before. m b v sees him really break down this sound and explore it more in depth now that the big event of it existing at all has come and gone. It's not as easy to like for sure but it does make sense as a successor and you cannot say the band rested on their laurels with it.
I guess in the sense that it has more than one definitive sound to it but really m b v ultimately sounds like a 3-part suite to me, almost like 3 different EPs stitched together rather than each individual song being its own thing.
:3
holy shit the autism in this thread. stop giving mbv fans a bad name, it's bad enough as it is that they're confused with bullet for my valentine
>Creates two masterpieces
>Expecting more
Literally described how you are one, and you seem to have no rebuttal of substance to refute me
Nice one contrarian
I want their new albums and EP already for fuck's sake
Their 2 new songs are phenomenal

mbv2013 is GOAT
I think you might be missing some of the depth of loveless and it's own experimentation. sure, m b v goes in a more radical direction with it's experimental songs, but some of these experiments feel very unfinished without the style that the band perfected on loveless. loveless still does experimental things, but keeping within the same style and aesthetic which makes the album feel more coherent and finely crafted.
The sort of stuff in the second half, I would accept as moderately interesting as a full album by another band trying to do something weird.
But in the context of mbv, the first half is so excellent that the content of the second half just can't compete, and feels shallow by comparison.
Oh, Loveless is certainly experimental but it's also cumulative. Shields had slowly, but steadily worked towards that sound for several years at that point. Loveless was the fruit of that labor, the result of years of studio experimentation. But it's so consistent in vision that even songs like Touched and Sometimes can snugly sit next to songs like Only Shallow or To Here Knows When. There's nothing wrong with that, but with m b v the next step appears to be to tear all of that down, lay it all on the floor and see how each individual piece works in its own right. Some of it is mere sound experiment stuff for sure but even so it does still exhibit a wider range of styles than Loveless did.
dont you love it when the plebs out themselves
based
obvious b8 is obvious
yeah just like you did here
