NYC in the 70s was grim living
Might be a stretch but some of the late 60s band like Buffalo Springfield, Quicksilver Messenger Service (Lester Bangs explicitly compared TV to QMS) and Moby Grape featured twin guitar interplay that Television would essentially streamline (i.e. shed the blues licks) for their sound. Hell, both Verlaine and Lloyd cited the Rolling Stones as a massive influence on their style so listen to the Stone's mid-60s stuff too. Going forward, the Paisley Underground bands all sounded like VU/Television acolytes, especially Thin White Rope and The Dream Syndicate.
I think this is the best Stones guitar interplay example

I need to check that out, thanks.
I also think their s/t is underrated. It might not be the most original album but it's pretty great

A weird part of my brain likes to think of Daydream Nation as just a noisier Marquee Moon.
Actually it's not that far. Check out the ending of Dirty Boots from Goo, it's clearly that part after the solo of Marquee Moon
