Do people give RATM too much credit?

Do people give RATM too much credit?

There is an argument to made that their music has a lot in common with the whiny, suburbia nu-metal the followed them that most people casually dismiss as garbage.

I've had mixed feelings about them for a bit, and was wondering what you think Yea Forums?

Absolutely, yes. I was really surprised to see how high their RYM scores are. RAtM fucking suck and always have. There's a reason most of their fans are white high schoolers with double-digit IQs.

They were my favorite band for a while back in middle school, I don't even care about politics it's just fun music. I don't really listen to them anymore but I think they've aged better then 99% of the 90's rap-metal stuff.

Rap rock/rap metal was happening with or without them, it was only a matter of time before someone realized you could have an actual DJ instead of Tom Morello's retarded shitty beep boop table imitations. The lyrics were cringey as fuck calling for revolution while only understanding society's problems on a surface level and they're all basically hypocrites. At least Limp Bizkit was trying to be fun

RATM are literally champagne socialists: the band
Bitching about capitalism while making millions from album sales

I can't overlook the cringe lyrics, musically they were great but every song has such terrible edgy pseud lyrics.

Listen to UDS, RATM stole literally everything from Them.
And like said, at least UDS had the sense to get a DJ

>COP KILLER BETTER YOU THAN ME

Real niggers do it better than some half raced mix socialist brats.

Musically they were ahead of their time. Hard to believe their debut came out in 1992.

UDS started in 1986

so like fans of your favourite artists?

They started the wave and were the best to do it. Also people who call Zach's lyrics "pseud" or "pretentious" don't really listen to the lyrics.

I doubt white high schoolers with double-digit IQs are listening to Jimmy Nail

>That comment on a live video that goes "Heh stupid sheeple saying I won't do what you tell me all in unison"

>UDS
Where do I start

What does UDS stand for?

how about the first album
how about using this new "google" i hear people talking about the last couple days

Wow UDS fans seem like massive faggots

>implying Iced Tea is some sort of quadroon

couldn't help myself.

Ultrasound Diagnostic Services? Is it that hard to type a bands name so we can know wtf your on about?

I googled and I found Urban Dance squad.
Their guitarist isn't as good as Morello imo. Sound like the Beastie Boys.

They had some great riffs. It's all good fun. Don't take it too seriously though.

They provide far less musical value than the majority of nu metal acts.

Ok the opening track for their 1989 album is very similar in style to RATM. At least melodically.

Like someone else said, Tom Morello is what made RATM special. Kind of like how U2 would be nothing without The Edge.

The important thing is that it's two/three years before RATM even started

Yeah, which is why I quoted the year.

The rest of that UDS album is pretty mixed, some interesting tracks and some not so interesting tracks.

It is important to know that hip hop and rock can not be separated. Rick Rubin was a punk, many of the early hip hop mcs performed at the same place as new wave bands. Afrika Bambaataa was sampling rock guitars long before Run DMC, Public Enemy etc.

What happened in the 90s was not as groundbreaking as some people make it out to be.

it's just not for american pigs

>Kind of like how U2 would be nothing without The Edge
I don't even like U2 and even I know that The Edge is nonessential

the edge and tom morello are the same in that they both have a pedalboard the size of a king sized matress

>The Edge is nonessential
I generally dislike U2. It is not something I ever have the urge to listen to.
But I doubt you could name guitarists who sounded like him.

RATM is simply amazing.
