The closer Lush got to straight up alt. rock / pop-rock(excepting that shit Britpop album), the better they got. Their shoegaze stuff isn't that great.
Also, the best shoegaze bands were Curve, Swervedriver and Catherine Wheel. In that particular order.

If you drop a band because they "sold out" to Britpop then you're an elitist cunt, especially since shoegaze pretty much was a pop genre prior to Britpop. Bands like Ride and Catherine Wheel were regularly getting hits on the UK pop chart and US modern rock around 91-93.

Lush's dreaminess was compromised by the fact that they actually wrote songs instead of relying on effects, but they wrote damn good songs. Probably the most consistently solid shoegaze act alongside Slowdive, even if they didn't have the highest highs they never put out anything close to a stinker either.
