It's good to have 3 guitar players. I prefer it. One plays rhythm chords, other can play the other bit that's in the recording such as octave chords or acoustic, other can do lead or play what the rhythm is doing but in a different area, such as one playing full chords and the other powerchords.. or they can just do the exact same.

It makes the whole live sound better. Alice Cooper has three guitarists and it sounds great. It's better for TV performances because then they can mix it to sound like the actual recording. Two guitars playing chords left and right and then the other just off centre.
