if you have good taste in music your favourites will end up looking like Scaruffi's anyway, whereas Fantano's taste is a complete joke (Kids See Ghosts 10/10 lmao wtf who could take this seriously?)

No one thinks that what Scaruffi says is undeniable truth. When you're looking for new (rock) music you can't just go and listen every band you see, you will waste thousands of hours for nothing. To explore music, especially thanks to internet, you gotta either pick critic with taste that fits yours or maybe a site, possibly some record labels but that would be a little less consistent, I might be wrong. Scaruffi's rating pattern(only talking about Rock music here) is somewhat precise, he rates albums according to how innovative they are to certain period of time, then it comes down how artist manages to develop his skill. If he decides to make some money he adds pop elements or something that has been proven appealing to masses Scaruffi considers that an artistic decline and of course vice versa. That's why listening to albums that've been picked by Scaruffi as the better ones will give you somewhat clear representation of how Rock music progressed over the decades, considering that he's been listening to it almost from the start of it.
When we're talking about Fantano, he just picks albums that he personally liked without absolutely no consistent framework, he's only applicable as a critic if you have exact same brain structure as him and like same albums as he does.
