Guys, quick question: can somebody explain to me the relationship between loudness of an amp in dB and output of amp in Watts? My homework is due by monday morning. thx

Rob Chapman is a complete fuckwit but, somehow, he has made a lot of money from selling his guitars and his ugly face on Youtube. His personality appeals to metal loving teenagers. I'm not being insulting either, that is 90% of his audience. A 44 year old man who is loved by teenagers....
You know about Riff City Guitars? Essentially they were a small music store that is closing. They were offered a chance to distribute Chapman guitars and they took it. It helped their business grow. Guitar Centre came along and wanted the exclusive rights to distribute Chapman guitars is USA, thus removing Riff City from the picture.
Business sucks sometimes, Rob Chapman and Lee Anderton suck all the time.

Posted this the other day. But going to repost once.
Anyone know of a good resource for learning alto saxophone? This being my first instrument.
to be able to write and record my own songs, beyond just going around the meme basic chords doing fingerstyle or strumming and also to be able to learn and cover songs from artists i really like
Neck - whatever came with the body, will switch out for a genuine Fender when I have the money
wiring - Gibsonish style, one tone and volume for each pickup
How retarded is this? Should I switch any pickups around or consider alternatives? Is the wiring a bad idea for any reason? do I need toggle switches for each individual pickup or will just volume do? I'm a tard at this obviously, but I'm eager to get my hands dirty, and I'm expecting to make mistakes, but hoping to get it as close to right as possible the first time around.

I am assembling a guitar for my first time soon. Here's what I have planned:

>Body - some shity japanese 80's knockoff strat why are you using a shitty base? why not make your own base with a real alder body and paint it with nitro ?
Tyler Davis
Hmm black metal tape. That's a tough one. I know some vendors sell copper foil tape but that's obviously not black. I reckon there might be a tungsten foil?? I would say lead tape but you know how those cookies won't let anybody have lead anymore LMBO (laughing my b*tt off)
This is stupid and will be shitty. Do you even know why you picked those meme pups?
Aiden Martin
Cringe, play like Azusa instead
So I'm planning on getting my first amp. It's mainly for playing at home. Fender Mustang II seems perfect for my budget, but people are saying that low-power amps are perfect for home practice. 40 watt is still good, right? Or will it lose some of the sound quality if I keep it on low volume?

Hello all. N00b guitarist here. I tried the link in the GG copypasta but it ded. I gotta diagnose some fret buzz. I restrung my Strat with 8s after trying them on a friend's guitar, and although they feel great, I'm getting fret buzz all over the low E string (worst on fret 5). Didn't have any kind of buzz with the previous strings (10s). What is the reason?
How do I improve my basslines? Everything i play sounds the same.

Anybody in here knows their shit about midi guitars?
I got pic related a few months ago (took me like ~2 years with a custom pre-order to get it) and it's probably the best guitar I've ever owned. It was expensive (~$3k) but I've tried many midi guitars over the years (roland GR-55, tripleplay, mostly) and they are all so bad in comparison when it comes to midi tracking, latency, velocity accuracy, etc.
It's ridiculous how little is known about midi guitars other than the shitty Roland approach...
Just throw it up on Reverb. You will probably take about a 50% hit on RG and a 20-30% hit on the Tele from what you paid originally.
Michael Adams
Get melodic like McCartney or Groove like a black man
Henry Jackson
Would love to try a MIDI guitar
Grayson Bennett
You can get something for relatively cheap with the Tripleplay. I bought it for ~$300 before I got my midi guitar because I was tired of waiting. Honestly? It really depends on the type of guitar you have (how high your bridge is, due to the tracking of the hexaphonic pickups), it can either track stuff fairly accurately, or it requires a lot of setting up and fiddling with the magnet heights and you will still get double/triple notes when picking which can be very very annoying.
I could deal with a tripleplay for studio/composing work, where you can go back in your DAW and edit out the dirty notes, but for live play I would never trust it. It is a nice little toy though. If that's okay for you, then that's a viable way into the world of midi guitars. But as I said already, nothing compares to the Expressiv Pro Midi guitar (the one in the pic) which sadly is only made by a random bloke in the west of Ireland and is ridiculously expensive + he has a huge backlog of orders so it can take up to a couple of years to get it built... (but worth it imo)
Adam Bennett

Ever tried that Godin midi guitar?

>tfw I’ve finally decided what songs to put on my first album >none of them are filler tracks as far as I’m concerned >I still fear nobody will listen to it from start to finish
I hope I’m wrong about the last bit. Most people I know just release singles or EPs on Spotify but if you have enough good songs for an album I feel like you should just go for it, even if it means less chance of getting stuff included on a playlist.
Ethan Torres
>tfw want to play in a band again but have no other musicians to play with Pretty much everyone I've ever played with has garbage taste in music, isn't that good of a musician, is playing in anothe band already, or has moved away. Shit sucks. I just like having other people to bounce ideas off of.
Carson Miller
I have not. I just took a quick look at it and it seems to be using the Roland type of midi pickups, which in my opinion are not that great. Seems like it won't be able to do fancier stuff like pitchbends and things like that.
Has anyone here ever played one of these? It's a Fender Precision Bass Special from the mid-'90s. I love the look of them and have been looking for ones for sale lately.
To be able to improvise over any progression, know the fretboard, understand the theory behind phrasing and how to build on a melody so that I can write my own songs as well.

What do you guys think would be a good price range for a cheap-ish bass that can hold up somewhat decent recording/studio quality? I'm not a bassist, I've been a guitarist my all life, but I need to get my hands on a bass to record some basslines for my new album and I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one as long as it's not too expensive. I was thinking around the $400-800 price range. Is that going to suck in quality or is it "acceptable" for an indie project?

I have a specific set up for my live play that requires me to split my guitar sound in two different chains of FXs. I want to be able to "merge" the two chains into a single mixer pedal that lets me turn on/off either line (or both at the same time) independently and run that into a mixer. Is there a pedal like this? A pedal with two inputs and a single output, and two switches to let me toggle on/off either of the inputs.
Levi White
mexican fender, just find one you like you used to be able to get a used american one for around 800 but probably not anymore

I live in Japan, by the way, so getting mexican/american gear might be more expensive than usual. I can probably get something like a Yamaha (?) or similar for much cheaper than in the west.

I’m thinking of trying busking for the first time, my own songs only. I don’t need the money but hoping I can do it to drum up online followers. I live in an extremely touristy city with heavy footfall at this time of year on certain streets.
Anyone tried it? How did it go?
Juan Edwards
Put up a sign that says all money goes to Charity. Then go find a hooker named Charity.
I might legitimately give the money to a mental health or homeless charity although I’m concerned people will think I am fleecing them. I have a decent job though.
No. You pissed off because you never grew the balls to play outside your bedroom?
Asher Baker
I don't know that busking with original material is the best idea. People want to hear what they've heard a billion times before.
Luis Taylor
ive played more gigs than you, now fuck off nobody wants you here
Anthony Bailey
Open mic at the local coffee shop isn't a gig. Then again, neither is busking.
Josiah Ortiz
You’re definitely correct if you’re hoping to get a large crowd and earn good money but if even one in a few hundred people walking past stopped for a few minutes I would be doing alright the street I have in mind is so busy. If any of those then bothered to follow me on Facebook (I’ll put a sign up with details) I’m honestly thinking I might have more success getting followers than open mic nights.
Eli Ross
Hey man, the worst that happens is nothing. Go for it.

Thanks, I think I will on my next day off. Will post results.
People flout the rule all the time (risking a fine and equipment seizure) but you’re not supposed to do it amplified in my city, thankfully I’m used to singing unamplified at folk clubs so hoping this will go in my favour.

Caleb Wilson
Stop speculating and go do it, you'll never know unless you try. You fail you fail, you succeed you win that's life, the only thing that matters is results.
Oliver Jones
well, if he don't try he won't fail, that's a better result
Ethan Morgan
No it isn't because if you don't try you don't learn, and if you don't learn you don't progress, and if you don't progress you'll just slowly climb down the ladder of life. Nobody knows him, nobody will see him ever again. Unless you have a reputation, you shouldn't care what others think.

You’ve maybe heard it before as a Clyp file, here’s my ugly mush to go with it.
Guitar isn’t the main focus of my music, it’s there for backing to my vocals. I’m not bothered about using simple chords and strumming, not everything works as well with fingerstyle.
Owen Reyes
Yeah. We get it. You like your skirts with a little extra meat in them.
Chase Jones
The problem with all of these resources is that they don't touch how music works, at least not correctly. Music is tonal, so ear training should be what all practice revolves around.
Unfortuntely, resources like those typically don't touch on that kind of stuff. And although they come from a good place, they trap students with things like CAGED, box pentatonics, and the like.
Ask a guitarist to play a particular chord at a certain position, and they might be able to get it. Ask them to name what each note is relative to the tonal center, and I will bet 99% of them will be lost.
It's a shame. Guitarists need better resources.

I think guitarists would benefit from trying to play piano. Theory and layout are more accessible to a beginner compared to guitar where it might take someone 6 months to learn Barr chords, you can play all chords almost immediately on piano and get to focus more quickly on deeper knowledge of notes/scales/chords/melody/etc which you can transpose and play on guitar and vice versa.
Austin Richardson
I’ve had a lot of good feedback on my singing, if you don’t like it I won’t lose any sleep over it.
William Myers
>might take someone 6 months to learn Barr chords Surely you must be joking
James Torres
I can't do barre chords, but I can play a piano.
Michael Rivera
No shit, everyone can play piano, just press some buttons
Ethan Gutierrez
Same as anyone can play guitar? Just press some strings?
Ian Cook
It's not bad, it's just very lackluster
Mason James
If that's true, why can't you barre chords then?
Jayden Scott
You don't have to do barre chords to play guitar. But if you must know, my fingers are jacked.

Try a different guitar. Really.
Nut width, fretboard radius, and string tension all affect how easy it is to play barre chords at different spots on the neck. Every hand is different. I fucking hate vintage fenders because my left index finger refuses to conform to those weird radiuses without some discomfort.
Cameron Campbell
low quality materials that start to fail after a few years, especially the electronics neat looking though I shouldn't hate too hard, as I have one of their amps and I absolutely love it, but the build quality on their stuff has always been sub par
Adrian Clark
Read. I have fucked up fingers. I am physically incapable of doing them.
Easton Price
yeah but radar love tho
Nathaniel Brown
are you the dude who was complaining about how his fingertips couldn't bend right, or something like that?
Landon Price
And you think someone who can't barre on a 7.25" radius designed to be easier to barre on doesn't?
Cameron Powell
>I am physically incapable of doing them. No you're not.
Ethan Brown
No
What?
My fingers are bent and gnarled. They won't straighten. Maybe if I had all of them broken multiple times and set back straight, MAYBE I could do them then, if I could even play after that.
Lucas Lewis
I just gave some arbitrary number but I do think the fact that guitar is more off putting than piano in the beginning for chords and Rhythm and the fact that it can take someone X amount of effort and time to play an F chord or a solo. I'd argue that sheet music and theory are easier to pick up on Piano and help you get out of this kind of rut. Theory gives you Structure and Lines that you can color outside of.
If you physically can not barre then buy a chapman stick and play by tapping.
But I don't think you can't.
Jack Thomas
I have no reason to take your word for it.
Carter Cruz
>H&K head and cabinet >sounds sterile as fuck >100% of my tone comes from my board and fingers
Do I need an amp? What is a preamp and can I use that instead? The problem is my amp setup is >$800 when I see preamps for $100 and some premium ones around $350.
Nathaniel Campbell
I don't want to play a chapman stick. I play guitar fine, I just avoid barre chords/find alternatives.
ok
Jaxon Cox
>I just avoid barre chords/find alternatives so you don't play guitar fine
Blake Wood
No, I play just fine. Are you under the impression that guitar is just about barre chords?
Michael Evans
So does anyone actually play or do you just sit around circlejerking over gear like posers?
Juan Watson
>Are you under the impression that guitar is just about barre chords? it's part of it. i'm sure a drinking bird plays piano just fine if you take out any polyphony.
Anthony Cooper
I do

Nicholas Rivera
Maybe you wouldn't be so angry if you had a Gibson.
>All men play Gibsons, but not all Gibson players are men >All cute girls who play guitar play Gibsons
From these two rules we can extrapolate that if someone does not like Gibsons, they are not men, and if they are women they are not cute. Or you just don't play guitar, which allows you to be cute, but still excludes you from being a man.
That they do. Find your finger porn someplace else.

There's nothing cute about not knowing how to use a 3 saddle bridge.
Aiden Kelly
Why bother using midi?
Alexander Hernandez
Six saddle bridges are objectively and factually superior to three saddle bridges.
What is the best country electric guitar (besides a tele)?
Ian Russell
It's got both seymour-duncan pick ups for normal electric guitar play, piezo pick ups for acoustic style, and hexaphonic pick ups + electronics on the bridge/neck for midi note tracking and pitchbend accuracy.
You can use it as a standard guitar, or you can do fancier stuff with midi.
Personally, I play a mix of electronic and post-rock/ambient acoustic and I like mixing the two. Midi gives you a much broader range of effects and instruments. I'm currently playing around with pic related to get some chiptune-like sounds and heavy fatty bassy lines to layer on top of a clean acoustic sound.
I've never met a transexual and I've never played anything but gibsons and only jam with fellow gibson players.
Something's fishy here
Jordan Brown
Well i'ts not the vaginas you and your drag troupe don't have
Ryan Turner
We have established that you are wrong. You can move along now.
Tyler Murphy
six saddle tele bridges are for people that don't want to be bothered to learn how to setup a 3 saddle tele bridge. ie lazy fucks
Oliver Jackson
Guitar sommeliers universally agree that six saddles > three saddles. Go back to your playground, boy.
Oliver Sanchez
why would you choose to do something more difficult for no reason
Thomas Perez
Three saddle bridges work fine if you use vintage correct string gauges with a wound G.
Robert Robinson
It's not more difficult once you learn how to do it
Julian Gray
This. It has long been common knowledge that guitar scientists have proven the superiority of six saddles in exhaustive studies.
Noah Moore
>not using a 1-saddle tone bridge

why would you ever learn how to do something that provides no benefit

I run heavy gauges, but I do use a wound G
Brody Sanders
gibsons and strats both have their good qualities but they have their fair share of flaws as well
if only there were some sort of super guitar that combined all their best qualities into a premium instrument that let you play at your best without having to work around vintage design flaws

Guitar cicerones unanimously agree: three saddle designs are less convenient to intonate while providing zero practical advantages over six saddle designs.

I see. So it's like playing a Gibson Les Paul.
Joshua Mitchell
Because they'll feel loose and/or fall off if I don't. That's a benefit and your analogy is shit.

"Tying shoes provides no benefit because shoes without laces exist" would be a valid analogy for "three saddle designs provide no benefit because guitars without saddles exist." It is not a valid analogy for "three saddle designs provide no benefit."

Wow. I didn't realize I was talking to a five year old.
