are you sidechaining everything to the kick/snare at all? (i cant really tell on my laptop plus its 5am and im tired) because if you're not it would really help, as your mix is super busy and quite hard to listen to
I don't know if I should post it here or make a new thread, but I don't want to shit up the board so I'll try here first, maybe someone will know.
I recently got pic related, and the recordings it makes are pretty fucked. The passthru sounds just like I want it to, but the actual recording is a bass heavy muddled mess of nothing, no matter what levels I'm taping on. It's not that obvious with just simple stuff like bass or symple synth line, but if I want to transfer some of my noise tracks, it just won't record anything decent. Tape to digital recorder thru stereo out also sounds bad.
Does anyone have an idea what could it be? Is it because I use ferric instead of chrome? Do I need some DAW when transferring from/to digital? Is the head fucked or just dirty?
The model doesn't seem to be bad, so it's not like all of them were shit from the factory.
jfc i can't finish anything. if i could just make 4 bar loops for adult swim bumps i'd be golden, but making a full track? forget it
Robert Sullivan
i mean it could be any number of things, i'd take it apart and make sure there are no caps that are blown and stuff like that, and just overall give it a good clean, just use some alcohol on the head.
if after a good clean it's still not working properly, then you know something really is fucked on it (or its your chain and you just don't know)
can you record the "bass heavy muddled mess of nothing"? id like to hear it
Luis Edwards
you got meme'd
Isaac Diaz
are there penis inspections or something
Jace Allen
Yeah, I'll try to clean it, o never tried to open up one though so I hope I won't fuck it. I dont have an access to a PC right now so I can't let you hear it, but imagine just a generic noise track with bass turned all the way up in the EQ and that drowns out the high end and maybe a reverb thrown in. The playback of already recorded tapes sounds fine, though...
John Murphy
little sister has an electric piano or whatever the fuck its called, and it has a midi connection im a complete newb, but if a i get a midi to usd cable, is it possible to connect it to pc and record with it?
Elijah Phillips
ya
Oliver Young
way too busy. take some elements out or cycle them to give the track some room to breath
Cameron Smith
it SHOULD, but aren't those cables fucking expensive? might be cheaper getting a midi interface off of ebay for dirt cheap
Jaxon Parker
cool, and if i play it, will the sound be only in the pc or from the piano as well? or is there a special option to mute whatever? dont wanna wake the neighbors makin music in the middle of the night
Jonathan Myers
Added some stuff. Not getting any further into the song though time-wise. The chords were making the drums sinking the mixmso I increased their volume. I'm not sure how well I mixed the synth chords.
meh, i think you might be out of luck, unless you have electrical test equipment, or know anyone who does? personally i'd just cut your losses cause those things are a meme, at least the passthrough sounds alright so it's not all bad
Jacob Kelly
How old is it? I feel like a lot of the electric pianos from the past 10+ years should have USB output as well. They can't be much more than a midi cable + midi to usb interface since the midi to usb cable is basically those two things built into one (the cables have a chip built into it and that's the bulge that you see). Both. Turn the volume of the piano itself to 0, baka.
Brody Cook
it should still give out midi information with the piano muted, but read the manual, it'll be in there.
Nolan Thomas
yeah but there are so many more midi interfaces that people are trying to flog for cheap, i thought you might be able to get a really good deal
Eli Hughes
>cables fucking expensive i really dont understand anything about this, but it seems they range from a couple bucks to a few dozens.. is there a big difference? its pretty old, cant check what model it is but an old yamaha, id say at least 8 years and yeah i guess setting it to 0 shouldnt wake anyone up lmao logical as the above poster stated as well
thanks to you and the other fellas in the thread have a great day gentlemen
Wyatt Richardson
>instaud.io/3WB6 I love listening to this clip improve; these changes feel like a big step up from what it was. Nice work. That one kick sample around 11 seconds in has bothered me every time and it's still there -- doesn't it bother you too? That abrupt cut off is way more noticeable than the other sample cuts.
I mean yeah they're a meme, but I can't really use a PC basically most of the year, so I need some kind of analog solution. I tried recording into a digital Tascam recorder, but the noise floor is just so crappy that it clipped away half of my frequencies, which is... Important with noise music.
I guess worst case I can just sell it, it seems to record normal instruments just fine. What baffles me is that the playback is OK, but recording isn't. Is there any way to find out if the model is just not capable of handling so much distortion? I could try to replace the head in the worst case.
Jayden Jones
hmm, what tascam was it? because the handheld field recorder ones are brilliant, and have XLR in.
other than reading the manual i couldn't tell you, you are probably better off asking on kvr/gearslutz, as they can give you a better answer
Jaxon Torres
DR-05, I got it for taping concerts, it only has a line in. And since I dont have enough pedals, I rely on the mixer for additional clipping, so I can't just turn it down at the master, sadly. I have no idea what kind of recorder or interface would be good for recording really harsh noise stuff without fucking it up...
Oliver Brown
definitely gonna just have to sort your chain out, can't you get some really cheap pedals to get the sound you want before you go in to record?
Jayden Smith
It's hard, cause the cheap pedals fuck up the sound and are noisy as fuck, so you end up with a shitton of mid range hum that completely muddles up the recording. Also the cheap pedals make the whole chain sound tinny as fuck, you turn it on, your volume cuts in half and it sounds like you rammed it thru a really bad compressor. Thats why I was looking to go analogue, you can just crank it up and whatever additional clipping it turns up sounds way better than any pedal under 200 bucks or something.
Aiden Morales
Get an octaver pedal and run your master through it.
Ian Brooks
Thanks. I might change that part, but I like it because it makes the music feel a bit more alive. If other people say it bothers them I'll change it.
I need better bass samples for a better bass line and I need to get some drop/rise synth samples, or learn how to do it better.
I'll find more samples tomorrow. I just know now not to add bitcrush, and to only use erosion a little bit. Justice used what sounds like a very smooth bitcrush on their bass/string samples.
I think it sounds pretty warm and killer now with all the reverb changes and Nightshine. I'm really excited about the possibilities. The master settings I have work perfectly for the sound.
Zachary Morgan
link sounds for me to make I haven't had a long ass sound design session in a while
... i'm thinking more basic stuff i'll use over and over or a unique drum or something
Yea Forums has a finite number of threads that are live at any given time (on Yea Forums it's 150, other boards might differ). Any time a post is made, the thread it's in gets "bumped" at the top of the thread list. Any time a new thread gets created, since the number of threads always has to be the same, the last thread in the list (the one that hasn't been bumped for the longest) gets archived (a few years ago there wasn't any 1st party archive, so they would just be deleted immediately, which now only happens on Yea Forums if I'm not mistaken). Therefore, when a thread is close to the end of a list, it risks getting archived/deleted, so someone needs to post something in order to bump it to the top and save it from risking archival/deletion (when people have nothing to say and just want to bump it, they just post "bump"). Threads can only be bumped a certain number of times (on Yea Forums it's 310, other boards might differ), after which they'll just sink down the thread list as other threads get bumped past them. Eventually our thread, unable to be bumped, will reach the last place of the list, and as soon as a new thread gets created, the system will delete ours to make space for the new one on the limited number of spots on the thread list.
This means that the number of posts that can be made after the bump limit (310 on Yea Forums) is just however many posts that can be made before the thread slides under the bumps of other threads. On slow boards this can even take months, allowing for as many new posts as you can make within that period. On fast boards it's just gonna be minutes.
So posting anything after the bump limit makes absolutely no difference on when it gets archived. If you want a thread archived faster after it reaches the bump limit, go in the catalog and bump threads that are below the one you want archived (preferably active threads, so don't be a cunt and rebump dead threads that nobody's posting in).

youtu.be/w8KQmps-Sog?t=53 How is the "so come on" guitar effect done? Is it just a vocoder? Layering?
can you help me out with a research i'm doing for a university project?
basically i need you guys to give me feedbacks on this idea for a track i came up with. Based on your comments, i'll fix the track, making all the changes suggested.
Every day I'll post an updated version of the song
apart from being super quiet, its all good just needs mixing properly, as atm it all sounds just super cheesy
it's alright, doesn't really lead anywhere, you need to add more.
Jack Green
>just needs mixing properly any tips for that?
Carter Myers
Ah that's cool, thank you.
I still don't understand what that effect is, and how would having an XY pad help you achieve it.
Brayden Ortiz
It's cute and relaxing, I like it. I would get rid of the 1:06-1:45 part since it feels too similar to the chunk that comes right after it without really earning the repetition. Besides that all it really needs is a better mix because it's too quiet.
Easton Morales
meh nothing specifically it's just general mixing, the only different between now and then is, for that style you basically want to drown EVERYTHING in reverb
Nolan Sanders
i imagine it's some sort of pitch effect with his bending of the strings,
Jordan Powell
Pitch effect on what? I'm talking about how the guitar "says" "so come on". Where do the words come from? A vocoder? They're just layered on top?
Ethan Nguyen
it doesn't sound like the guitar saying "so come on" at all to me, it just sounds like a pitch bend?
Asher Lewis
It's even in the lyrics (pic here ). Try listening with headphones.
Carson Powell
listen at 35 seconds. its just a pitch bend, so i imagine its just a vocal layer at the other points of the track
Dylan Cox
Yes the guitar is doing a glissando and the vocal line is singing the same pitches, but how are they sounding like one sound? It doesn't sound layered. Sounds like it's the guitar saying it like with a vocoder but I don't think it's that either. Is it really just mixed perfectly so it's glued to the point of sounding like one thing?
Intro is too long (unless you plan on putting vocals over it later) and the bass gets drowned out by the drums
I don't think they're doing anything too complex. To me it just sounds like they're panning the vocal all or almost all the way to the right while doing the same with the guitar bend on the left channel.
any plugin that does the same thing as corpus in ableton?
Jace Reyes
just google it
Daniel Jenkins
How bad should I feel for ripping off some people a lot? I'm a couple years in and I haven't really found "my sound" yet so I'm mostly making stuff like Iglooghost. I like it but I do want to develop my own flavor. Am I handicapping myself by allowing myself to be really influenced by others? What I'm mostly concerned about is the idea that I'm stagnating.
I liked what you posted even though it does sound a lot like iglooghost. If you're really not satisfied with how similar you sound to an artist you like then I would just listen to a bunch of artists that sound nothing like iglooghost at all. Get some fresh ideas into your head. Or just break some of your own rules. You've clearly studied iglooghost's music enough to know how to sound like him so just try doing the opposite of that.
James Collins
Ableton is by far the easiest DAW to pirate in the current year, what are you talking about?
I guess that makes sense, I struggle with listening to a variety of music because I get obsessed with some sounds and end up doing nothing but thinking about them. Do you have any suggestions?
Alexander Cooper
ill try that but ive installed like 5 versions of it from other places and they all eventually stop working.
Robert Brooks
thanks by the way
Parker Walker
This one is the most legit. If it stops working then it's on your end.
Try this: Download the files, turn off the Internet, check the R2R instructions before doing anything, follow them, disable inbound and outbound connections to Ableton in your firewall, disable updates in Ableton's settings, turn on Internet, enjoy.
NP.
Ryder Hall
>it doesn't sound layered The point of layering is to make two things sound like one. I'm sure they have super experienced mix engineers work on their shit so it's been done right.
Wyatt Jenkins
Sure, but when you try layering different sounds like in this case (a vocal and a guitar playing slightly different pitches with an alignment that changes over time due to the glissandos) it becomes really apparent that they're two separate sounds, so I thought it might be some kind of vocoding or one of those vocal effect guitar pedals that have weird specific effects or something.
Juan Stewart
It's kinda difficult to recommend music based on trying NOT to sound like a specific artist since that leaves almost all music acts to recommend. I find Spotify's radio stations for specific songs/artists really helpful because it inevitably shows me artists i haven't listened to yet that can at least be a jumping off point for new sounds. Recently I've been listening to lots of 70s/80s jazz fusion to find ideas for composition like chord progressions and key changes.
Charles Reyes
this is mixed well and the composition reminds me of mgmt i think an electronic tom would sound cool or even a clave
Sebastian Wright
instaud.io/3WHg can you please listen to this and give me feedback?
seems like prism is the closest thing but I'm not sure if I want to install reaktor
Jason Wilson
tfw your monitoring gear is too good and doesnt show you the harsh high mids that come out on smartphone speakers and cheap car speakers
Nolan Jenkins
Sometimes cheap is the best way to go because most people listening are using cheap. Justice said they used a cheap Bose alarm clock and Altec iPod speakers. I'm beginning to believe them.
Levi Ross
I'll admit it, I listened because of the Non Non Biyori gif. The first half has a nice tropical drum beat, the "breakdown" around halfway through is kind of slow but it picks up with a good drum beat again (reminds me of Blank Banshee) around 1:10. Not bad if this is some of your first work.
it's not the best way but it's a good idea to check your work on shitty speakers
Joshua Thompson
Looking for a new interface to replace my Scarlet Pro 40.
Anyone have any recommendations for a durable 8 channel interface? That is on bar or better than the Pro 40?
Liam Murphy
I agree with that the break in the middle loses the pace of the song. I think the break needs an extra element besides the hihat which could also use some changes to the velocity.
little bit of oldschool little bit of new any comments/feedback appreciated
Owen Adams
>instaud.io/3WI4 That one low bass sample sound like a guy trying to start a weed wacker or revving a weak electric engine. vrrr vrrrr vrrrrrrrrrrr vrrr vrrrr vrrrrrrrrrrr vrrr vrrrr vrrrrrrrrrrr vrrr vrrrr vrrrrrrrrrrr vrrr vrrrr vrrrrrrrrrrr Not a fan of that.
Cooper Bailey
and furthermore any comments on the track?
Julian Perry
reminds me of reso, drums sounds too thin to me and I'm afraid trying to fix that will throw the entire balance away, perhaps some tape saturation could do the trick at around 2 mins there is too much difference in volume between the drum layers
instaud.io/3WK0 This better? Tried to fix the drums shortly. deffo still not perfect but i thinks its tighter
Nolan Cook
Is there anyway to make a frequency-based sidechain?
Like, I have a instrument going all over bass and mid frequencies, then I sidechain a bass drum with a fundamental around 200hz to it and everytime the bass drum kicks in the instrument will lose amplitude around the 200hz frequency, other frequencies remaining stable
How can I do this in FL?
Josiah Phillips
yeah it's better
Levi Collins
Try a dynamic EQ like Fabfilter Pro-Q3.
Caleb Taylor
Is it a good practice to just hard pass anything below 20hz and above 18k? I mean, they're inaudible frequencies, right?
Below 20 yeah sure unless you intend to play it over a system with big ass subs that can move tons of air. Above 18k maybe, I'd do more of a gradual slope at 20k, 6db/oct or 12, or a high shelf, so you don't lose all that information regardless of how audible it is. Remember that audible and perceptible are not the same values when talking air vibrations.
Austin Allen
I wouldn't. Those lower frequencies won't be picked up on an average setup but if played on a club sound system or something it could make a difference. Maybe it would still sound better without them though
Eli Torres
>if played on a club sound system or something it could make a difference Most likely a negative one. Unless you specifically have a clean sub (in a bass or drum) at that frequency, it's most likely going to be just rumble.
Luke Morris
That makes sense, but I remember reading somewhere that really low sub bass frequencies (like below 25 hz or so) are just rubble and suck perceived loudness out of your mix. This is just nonsense then?
Bentley Ramirez
>This is just nonsense then? No, it's completely correct.
Jeremiah Long
It's correct, basically always cut the inaudible lows cause they can fuck with dynamics processors. If you can split the frequency insteaf of cut record the ultra lows as a seperate track so you can use it to drive a dedicated sub in the unlikelyu occasion you encounter one.
The snare is a bit weak while the kick is way too strong. Spice the track up with open hats, hi hats and sub bass, that'd make it more interesting.
David Jones
No, the low is weak and too forward. Also too much vocal fry, that's too low for you to be singing.
Lincoln Thomas
Bitcrushers change the bit *depth* of audio (number of bits used per sample) so they can reduce from 16 to 8-bit for example - mp3 encoders typically still use 16-bit audio as a default but the encoder quality is changed by setting the bit *rate* and this is a data transfer rate, bits-per-second not a bits-per-sample setting.
Xavier Mitchell

I really doubt that. That's like saying you can take a normal guitar string and loosen the tension to play bass notes.

Can you sample .mp3 audio, convert it to wav and it not sound shit?
If not, can you manipulate/process mp3 audio to sound as good as wav??

it's called mixed voice. falsetto sucks unless it's an effect here and there
Christian James
yes you can, it's called being 'trans-fidelity' and it's perfectly normal and natural.
Jose Rivera
record it in wav to begin with

ikr, but i'd like to salvage and sample some old mp3 recordings sarcasm?

What's the problem? I had one a while back that never worked
Logan Rogers
>Tell me what you think It sounded like maximalist, louder Daft Punk Like, it has way more stuff happening at a single time and it also uses more unconventional sounds. Daft Punk sounds more bare bones, sparser production by comparison. I enjoyed it, but I think Daft Punk is catchier, if that makes sense
thats based. my friends are mostly asian and mexican though.
Lincoln Nelson

Another thing I like about Justice is that they're not repetitive. The music is always headed somewhere. Their sound is addictive to me because it feels technical while being trashy.
I'm still looking for another person who can find good funky samples with me, as well as write some music. I thought I couldn't do the mixing but with some fiddling I think I can do it, but I have to listen to it over and over to see what can be improved..
Some people say I shouldn't copy Justice's sound, but what then? They're the most influential group in EDM since Daft Punk and nobody's topped them since. They're the natural progression of Daft Punk's sound.
>instaud.io/3WO5 Neat, but I feel like there is too much going on at once. Simplify the arp/keys to more of a pad sound to let the weird glitchy bird/bug/animal sounds take center stage.
Justin Wood
be the natural progression of Justice
Sebastian Cruz
Way too busy and tense for how calm some of those melodies are
Brody Morgan
>but what then? are you really so creatively bankrupt that you would settle for copying somebody elses sound rather than be merely influenced or at least expand on it? that's fucking sad like bee yourself dude
Samuel Williams
I mean, I want to write badass shit like Planisphere. I still need a gimmick, and I'm still thinking the alien thing. Dress as aliens and stuff, ya know?
One thing I've learned is not to over-subtractive EQ everything. I read online some guy said to filter all low end on individual elements to get Justice's sound, which resulted in a thin sound in the past. I know not to do that now. I actually am starting to leave the low end on most elements and to just not use too many elements at once, and instead leave the master EQ at near 0 on the bass end. It sounds warmer while being "hot" and brighter that way.
That's what I'm going to do now that I know what is required to get the sound. Cross was the result of using gating tricks, playing with reverb amounts, and using different snares and kicks at differing volumes in the same song to make it sound alive rather than sterile like a lot of EDM. It's really complex and you have to be meticulous and surgical.
I know the sound quality I want, but I want someone who brings a different mindset to the table to make something unique.
Nicholas Carter
>Cross was the result of jesus shut the fuck up about it when nobody asks, you're just as bad as demarcus inserting depression into everything
Sebastian Cruz
>someone who brings a different mindset to the table to make something unique I write shit songs but make dope sounds and can mix what do
Luis Miller
That sounds cool. My discord is Dylan02211992. If you can make cool sounds that would be great. I'm beginning to learn how to mix, but it's a little wonky, but that's exactly the way Cross was mixed.
I want to make stuff with an alien sound - kind of unusual but catchy - like how Daft Punk has the robots, but instead aliens with a cross of DP and Justice's music. Tomorrow I'm going to start looking for more samples in songs.
I could mess around with your stuff and see what comes out of it.
the dylan experience™ is pleasant but he gets really antsy really fucking quickly fuck you
Daniel Rivera
just spent all day download the two part rar files from your link, they finally finished and when I extracted them the file was corrupted. So thanks for trying.
I haven't really touched it in over a week. I have too many parts overlapping each other, and the sound becomes messy imo, so I'm going to rearrange it and build it up more eventually. Here it is with Nightshine.
Someone post their garbage, it can be anything. I want to do some remixing.

Picking a genre that is so far outside your experience can be a very rewarding and challenging task. Do you always try to make club bangers? Try to make some experimental non rhythmic shit, or a fuckin funk tune. It might reignite your passion as you are forced to learn something new that is outside your comfort zone.
James Bennett
Have you made that fan sound yet? I was serious.
Christian Carter
Just go on rutracker. If you are having a hard time with the new new new version, get the one thats 1 version older that everyone is seeding. Its sure to work. If you are serious about getting your name out there, I would pay a thirsty young marketing / branding firm. Nobody has enough time to do it alone while still making good ass music (with the rare exception of the discover-ees that blow up organically). I have never done this, as I have no interest in it, but that's what I would do If I were.
Matthew Edwards
Sounds cool.
Camden Brown
As far as random sounds to make: Many versions of "Subbass patches" that you are likely to use. Some have pitch bend, as in 808-ish stabs, some have volume automation, etc. Some have saturated versions. A basic sub toolkit 2. Layered snare drums built on synthesized snares that u generated, especially if ur into 'muh edm' 3. Funk lead patches. The ones with the LFO modulating pitch bend a la Zapp and Roger 4. Dope evolving pads 5.Make your own drum breaks using a multi mic drum software (like superior drummer, bfd, Addictive drums) and mix the mics to ur taste to get the sound u want 6. Reverb chains that emulate classic sounds, like plate reverbs and such 7. Preset channel strips for your kontakt instruments that prepare a acoustic guitar, piano, etc whatever it is- in different ways. just a few ideas off the top of my head.
Jaxon Mitchell
I MAKE EVERY GENRE
Funny you mention it, BackInTheDay I was very into funk guitar before I actually started /prod/ing so maybe i'll retrace my roots and unironically make an RHCP ripoff track. Also I have part of a piano piece in the style of Ryuicihi Sakamoto started and it's depressing the fuck out of me that I can't expand on it because i'm so shite.
Idk I messaged *redacted* and i am very uncomfortable making dance music outside of techno so maybe that'll give me a push

I had an idea. I'm thinking about doing another remix contest and see if I can win again, and I'll get a prospective partner to help out once we've chosen one. The music will be 10x better now. I couldn't have made that one minute and thirty seconds as good as it is without the instant feedback from /prod/. I'm so proud you guys.
Gavin Edwards
After my recent EP I feel like everything I'm making after is sub-par and I'm having difficulty keeping ideas going and finishing them. Before it wasn't like this.
I guess this is more of a mental thing. I've been told to try out new stuff and go outside my genre, and all my attempts at this have ended up being terrible sounding for the most part. I know that I'm learning something from it, but it's just frustrating and now I can't make music like I used to make it.
I don't even know what I want help with. I just feel incapable.
Carson Russell
Do you think your standards have been raised significantly after your last EP? Perhaps you think you need to level up first?

cant fucking pay attention for more than 2 minutes, i get fucking panic attacks whenever I have to get out of my comfort zone while making a track. It's living fucking hell, I have fun when I jam but when it comes to producing in general, I just can't fucking focus like a normal human being. I'd argue I have trouble focusing on anything other than shitposting for some reason. I've been producing consistently for the past 7 months with little breaks here and there, but started 3 years ago with big ass breaks
William Cox
It's like there's this weird mental block that happens. Whenever I open Ableton, I get all fucking shaky and start feeling extremely tired. It used to be worse when I would just faint in the beginning.
Dylan Sullivan
>that user still remixing fleetwood mac I'm still working on it, I promise!
Eli Sanders
I'm that way with a lot of stuff. When I tried to be good at Street Fighter 5 I did that until I eventually realized it wasn't for me. When I was starting out making music here about two weeks ago (I used to do music a few years ago though) I was looking for samples hardcore, and I kept doing everything in production wrong due to bad advice I read on old forum posts. I would sleep too long and have to force myself to try to achieve the sound I wanted - had to force myself to get out of bed. Then I just started posting my tracks, no matter how bad they were, took the advice, made the changes, I got over it, and now I feel like I can do anything because I know what to look for sound-wise now. I know what's good and bad. My main problem was that I was throwing bitcrush on almost everything, for what reason idk, just that Justice used bitcrush on some sounds and people on forums recommended it for the sound. It made my mix dogshit and hard to EQ and didn't sound anything like what I really wanted.
You'll work past it. Just envision a song and go for it. Try to build songs around samples if you're out of ideas.
Anthony Lee
that's exactly what I used I knew how to open them they were corrupted once I opened them
Luis Sanders
If they're .rar files, try WinRAR. I've had weird things like that happen to me in the past where 7zip would result in corrupt files. No experience with the Ableton files though.
Jaxson Perry
I tried to make some avent-garde hifi shit. I don't feel as though I'm a professional producer by any means, I mostly just try to have fun and make a sound. I've used video game soundfonts and random sound clips. I don't formally know music theory. What should I grow upon?
anybody else really liking massive x so far? visual feedback aside (wtf were they thinking) with the osc and routing sections it easily tops serum imo.
Isaac Rivera
Its alright. It has more FM potential than either serum or massive 1. Shame that it only has one main filter (though u can cheat ur way to a few more basic 2 pole filters using the inserts).
Jaxon Rodriguez
Yeah I’ve been using pigments and the lack of 2 filters is disappointing. The filters are interesting at least. Being able to “strike” the comb filter with the exciter envelope is cool as shit and really useful
Owen Sanders
how do you know all this shit
Grayson Wright
does it sound like total shit or is it okay? if now tell me what's wrong with it instaud.io/3WQC do i need to delete serum and download massive?
I thought it was all jokes at first, but I think you people believe this.
Alexander Scott
It is not a serum replacement. Its a cool synth though. You cannot make your own wavetables. It has some neat features like the routing area, which I especially like.
Caleb Scott
i like the chord progression. I think it's just missing instrumentation.
Noah Collins
Oh yeah, and to whoever wants to join me in making Justice music, we have to dress like 70s vice cops
Is it me or do all Ableton presets and presets in general sound like utter shit? My shit sounds amateur as fuck and I wonder if they're the problem.
Matthew Bennett
make your own sounds then u dingus ableton shit is good
Owen Jones
wdym ableton shit is good, the synths or the presets?
Kayden Carter
They're not corrupted, you just have to use the latest Winrar to extract them. I'm sure the other downloads were fine too, and you'ìre just not good at computer. At least try being less arrogant when receiving help. Especially if you have no idea what's going on and your problems are actually of your own doing.
Jordan Williams
both synths and effects the instrument racks are hit or miss imo, mostly miss. grand piano is good. idk, don't fuck with presets on anything because they majority are shit and or not specific to what you're trying to do lol.
Is there some kind of essentials pack for FLStudio 20? I'm lost as to what plugins I should get, and shit like synth1 is hella expensive for fucking SOUND.
Dominic Bailey
Did you mean sylenth1?
Tyler Hill
it's not that bad
Joshua Gomez
>is hella expensive for fucking SOUND So programs for making sound should be cheap?
Nathan Wilson
Mb, not synth1, but no it's something like TI Virus or something similar to that. It actually escapes me right now.
Not saying people shouldn't be able to profit off of these things, but at the same time, even people getting INTO music or most people that are in music to some degree, can't afford half of the things needed to MAKE good music.
Jason Diaz
True, which is why we pirate everything my dude.
Jaxson Lee
Definitely, although depends, the plugin I'm referring to up above, unfortunately had a failsafe anti-pirating code that rendered it useless if you tried to save your own preset. But none the less, my question still stands, is there some kind of essential list or am I just suppose to grab a bunch of random plugins that others use?
Josiah Ortiz
not that a full "pro" setup isn't fucking expensive even if it's all software but it's literally the most affordable it's ever been man lol like the number one complain boomers have is "fuckin everybody and there cat can make music and upload their shit to soundcloud" too much noise blah blah blah
free plugins are very good already, the absolute necessities to mix are in your daw already and there are excellent freebies out there.
desu reaper, serum, $100 set of headphones can take you very fucking far. it's not ideal and i hate that argument that using cheap shit is fine (imo *learning* on nice stuff and doing things the right way is quicker than using subpar equipment and gives knowledge on how to make up for disadvantages etc) but honestly a few hundred bucks gets you a legit setup, nevermind pirating lol
Kayden Thomas
SERUM that's what I was trying to remember, fuck me. That one. As for headphones... what would you recommend? I was looking at a kind of "list" for good headphones, there was some at like 150 that seemed really nice.
Jaxon Hughes
i dont pirate soft
Kayden Morales
There really aren't any essential plugins. It all comes down to knowing what you want in a program and trying a bunch of them. If you're just starting out and can't do that, this is a pretty good list: rbt.asia/mu/thread/88611083/#88636923 Don't get them all. Just get what you need from it.
You only pirate hardware?
Connor Robinson
i pirate music that you produce
Jordan Thompson
Joke's on you, I post my work on pirate sites in lower quality on purpose so people get to know about it then decide to buy the proper quality version. You just fell for my bait.
Here's Xavier showing BEAT and DANCE to I believe Sebastian in 2006 before the Cross album was released. Possible evidence Sebastian helped work on it.
massive disclaimer, heaphones will only get you started, especially this budget stuff- if you stick with this monitors are a must have, but the headphones you get will still be very useful as a second reference
also, Serum isn't *personally* my favorite synth but if you're making synth focused music it's a must have
why do you keep posting
Joshua Fisher
Because I'm bored.
Colton Robinson
because he's retard
Camden Butler
I admire your niche focus autism. Your analysis on the tonal qualities is good but I think you are not contextualizing your production based on YOUR sound. Imitate the technique only and focus on sound selection that is more in line with your lived experience and tastes.
William Bailey
I fuck around with an idea for an hour then I think it’s shit and delete it. What’s my problem
Aaron Wright
This is why I need a music partner. I know what sounds good and what doesn't, but because Justice combines everything I like (in my youth I liked glam rock, and then metal in my teens) and then EDM like Daft Punk... Justice was the amalgamation of everything I like. I've got to the point now in production technique that I could almost recreate the entire Cross album. I learned how to mix and use reverb on this one track.
But I want to take that album a step further. Justice, and even SebastiAn, are doing lightweight melancholy pop stuff now.
I need a music partner who knows the French touch sound and might have some new ideas. I can't brainstorm it alone.
I did find some old demos by Justice from 2003. kek. They've been producing longer than I thought.
Why not work on a new sound and pull from different influences. Not sure what more there is to do/explore in the french house sound. Plus, we're American so it comes across disingenuous if we explore too far into foreign scenes and ignore our unique influences. Nomsayin?
Landon Hernandez
WHY CANT IT SOUND GOOD WHAT THE FUCK ALL MY SYNTHS SOUND SO DULL IM SICK OF IT I GIVE UP
Noah Davis
I want to do that, but I'm definitely using Nightshine for the pure sonic tonality of the Cross album. Many producers chase that sound. House is the most popular EDM genre as well. I only like music with melody so that excludes many subgenres like dubstep. I'm not sure where I could innovate besides innovate within the house genre. Many house producers put out a couple of bangers here and there and neglect making a timeless album.
John King
Basically, I need a pep talk. I don't make music as much anymore and when I do, I think it sounds like shit. I used to be really good (been about 3 months) but it is just not working out anymore. I don't go to my college classes when I should be and I'm running out of time. Every day I think to myself "I should really open up that freelance mixing/mastering service, nah" and just end up not doing it. I go to my job on time, good with money, and despite all of that I'm still happy. I just don't have any motivation for many aspects of my life. How did you guys get yourself out of this hole? I have class at 10 am but I've already fucked my sleep for tonight, I'm sick of living like this.
Andrew King
Stereo separation, reverb, and compression are your friend.
Kevin Collins
>How did you guys get yourself out of this hole? i don't like anything else jobs are just money, school sucked, people come and go.
... it's about figuring out your priorities. The stupid Bukowski quote "don't try" imo gets tossed around to be dismissive of part time artists but I think it weeds out those who will and won't.... if music is going to be a lifestyle thing for you it'll become obvious.... There's nothing wrong with it being a hobby or part time work though
but if you're happy what's the problem? (typo?)
shut the fuck up justicefag
Daniel Taylor
Not a typo, I'm happy but just don't feel the reward of life. It's waaay to early to have the rewards, but I just feel like I'm drifting, you know? Wake up, play some games, maybe dabble in making music, discover some new albums, work some days, stay up till 5am and repeat it again at 3pm. I feel like I didn't live another day, just continuing a dream. Without structure, it just feels like a blur. New Years of 2019 felt like a month ago and all that time since I've been repeating the same shit. To be more specific, I wanna know how you guys got in control of yourself and gained structure in life.
Daft Punkish. That's what I like. I think it could be spruced up with some instrumentation or reenvisioned with the same melody, but the melody, harmony and lyrics are good.
First of all, the melody in the original was more sensual and grooving. The remixer took the melody and pitched it, creating a weird pinched sound, then he added in random notes outside the main aeolian minor key of the song for seemingly no other reason than to drag the listener out of the melody. It sounds very "standard glitchy electro house" and I'm not a fan.
Landon Sullivan
When I produce with headphones it always sounds too quiet when I play it back on speakers. Are they less accurate or what? I'm using studio headphones for this.
Brayden Myers
Lemme guess. You're nice job bro
Top kek
Nicholas Thompson
I wish.
Jaxon Lee
Who's nice job bro?
Charles Jenkins
One of the most famous soundclowns (basically soundcloud memers), who would make stupid jokes but would very rarely make cool songs too. One day he disappeared and deleted his entire page. Some people saved some of his stuff, but I don't know if the archives are complete.
Parker Cooper
new thread every1
Daniel Morris
Kek. No Justice. Where's the justice in what you've just done?
Nolan Rodriguez
new thread everyone
Dominic Baker
ok
John Reed
Sounds better than I can get my guitar to sound recording it at home. Good work with the drums too. You planning on putting any bass in there?
