he recovered perfectly
and what a beautiful voice

>everyone shits on Collins for being a 'banal' pop singer
>tell them about Brand X
>they still dislike him but dont think of him as a hack anymore
Works everytime. How everyone completely neglects that he was a great drummer first baffles me.

I'm assuming you are Australian and that is actually a compliment.

If those people were smart, they would have already realized that he is also a tremendous vocalist and songwriter.

He and Epstein were good friends I here. Travelled a lot. They flew a lot actually. I heard Phil would ride on his private plane or something like that. Crazy haha

No Jacket Required [Atlantic, 1985]
Between his self-deprecating videos and his good taste in business associates (better Philip Bailey than, say, Steve Perry), Collins isn't as hateful as an art-rock leader-by-default turned best-selling-solo-artist-in-the-world-this-month might be. In fact, he's not hateful at all. But it takes more than that to make me want to hear a stupid love song again. Never mind the absolutely unsurprising lyrics and arrangements and just tell me why this is a great mean of Britpop voices? Is it because no one ever wonders what it sounds like unfiltered? C

He's on the Epstein flight logs, probs a pedo

>Hey guys I'm retiring cuz I'm too crippled to play
>Lmao just kidding I'm doing a comeback tour
What did he mean by this?

Friendly reminder that it literally wasn't even Phil's fault Genesis went pop, they still made prog albums when he was the "lead." Hell, during the transitional period, he even hired Bill fucking Bruford to fill in for drums!
It was Steve Hackett leaving that made Genesis pop. Without him, Phil couldn't fend off the plebbery of Rutherford and Banks, who were the actual guys behind the pop transition. Phil was just the scapegoat, and his later solo career didn't help him shed the image of "that smarmy pop faggot" (if he had made more art pop like In the Air Tonight and less shit pop like Sussudio, it'd probably have saved his image).
To this day, Phil has always been 100% onboard with reforming Genesis into the golden age '70s lineup and was completely responsible for all the post-Gabriel prog that's sprinkled in the pop albums.

needs money to fund his wife's horrific face and lifestyle

You're not wrong. I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. Sussudio is a great, great song, a personal favorite.

is it true he recorded Sussudio in his stustudio?

something something epstein lolita express flight logs

This.
Very much this.
The prog is still evident in Invisible Touch - The Brazillian, for example
