For what purpose?
Much richer sound.
Death in June utilized this on a few songs
Richer is that you?
Fuckin rad thanks brother!
A bunch of Genesis songs but you have to figure out the tunings for that.
play through the fire and flames both lead and rhythm simultaneously
neil young - thrasher
Just play some jangle pop
Based
Try songs with a slow tempo. It’s really nice when the chords ring out on a 12 string.
I Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis, When The Deal Goes Down by Bob Dylan, Heart of Gold by Neil Young would all sound good.
Literally everything sounds better on a 12 string.
Play anything.
Bigmouth Strikes Again
If this was true they’d be more popular. It’s a nice instrument but I eventually traded mine for a mandolin, six string is more versatile.
It's versatile if you don't suck at guitar
Learn some Robbie Basho (Falconer's Arm) or Fred Gerlach by ear.
>It's versatile if you don't suck at guitar
Let’s hear you fingerpicking on your twelve string then m8.
Unless you are Leo Kottke you probably won’t sound very good.
Any Boston song
Boston.
tom petty and the byrds used it a lot. pick anything from either of those two
This is mostly unpleasant, speed is not a substitute for good melody.
ok, but that's not a criticism for guitar playing, which may be hindered by the fact I haven't played in a week and it's recorded like shit. You were inclined to dislike it, and I don't believe in making pretty melodies, so our sensibilities in music differ vastly
is this a joke? no melody or harmony whatsoever
Are you joking? Any sequence of notes is a melody, any simultaneous group of sounds is harmony
Tim Buckley sounds real nice, especially if you detune a little bit and play some freaky avant folk
I’m the first guy who replied, not the second. Look, I can tell you’re technically proficient and you’re also very clearly trying to show off your abilities in the clip rather than play a nice piece of music which makes things worse. I was probably a bit harsher than I would normally be as you pissed me off when you claimed I was a shit guitarist for finding six string more versatile.
Try to focus on doing a cohesive piece of music that works well as a whole rather than squeeze in every trick in the book.
but m8, I never even supposed if you played guitar or not, I'm saving cohesive music (which I have written) for when I actually record.
If I wanted to "show off", it was in service of the 12 strings, which have become kind of a meme in my life, as I jokingly refuse to accept that 6 strings are more versatile.
How do you play with just one of the two strings when they are so close together?
I think you could do it with careful flat picking, finger style though would be exceptionally difficult without tensing your hand too much. Kottke buggered his hand through his fingerstyle method on 12 string and had to relearn how to play, he’s never sounded quite as good as with his bad method though in that first album.
