Oh, also another case like Joy Division where it should have been blatantly obvious in retrospect to anyone who paid proper attention to his lyrics that he was becoming increasingly mentally ill but nobody seemed to notice at the time. Thankfully in his case he was institutionalised in time before it killed him.

yeah I'm not sure why he chose that for the cover considering he's sampled them on other album and there are no samples on that album. I guess it's just to illustrate his schizophrenia.

No, they're Louis Wain's Kalideoscope Cats, he was committed in the 20's, but his drawings and paintings occurred earlier than that and continued till his death.

His work is really interesting - it starts off with really gentle, happy pictures of cats hanging out and dancing, or drinking, laughing. As time goes on the cats become more and more paranoid and suspicious looking, and his later work is basically portraits of cats deconstructed into intricate patterns. Some think he got toxoplasma gondii which kicked off his schizophrenia, some think it had to do with mescaline, but most agree that his work reflects his mental degradation.

I dont believe he was into mescaline, the Doctor that found and put his pieces together for a show much later on was though and did artistic projected using the drug.

Wain was dead, or near dead, at time of those experiments though. Dr. Maclay found the cat paintings only after Wain's death.
