In fact, you could do this with literally every CBGB band. Dead Boys, Patti Smith, Ramones, Mink DeVille, etc.
It seems like they all got accustomed to a culture where they could just obsessively hone their songs over a period of years in a dark club. Then when they all got signed and released in '77, the labels were like "okay, you have 6 months to make a new album," and then sent them on tour immediately. Then the record labels said "6 months are up, what do you have?" And all those bands threw together a few half-baked songs, and the leftovers they didn't put on their debuts.
That said, the Ramones' second album is actually great, and while Blondie and Talking Heads had a slump, they then obviously evolved dramatically and became two of the biggest new wave bands ever.
