Previously on /gg/: Have you met my imaginary friend Tom DeLonge? I built this piece of shit for him (and no, it didn't have to be nice because he isn't real lol) edition!
so the other month i did this little deck the halls thing for playful reasons, G key but then, I ended it with a Abm and G did it by instinct and it sounded great for me
what cadence did i use? you know, Abm isn't part of the G scale, so, what happened?

this is something you should be asking in /gcg/ not /gg/

the guitar composer general. gtfo and stop shitting up /gg/ you idiot
What's my comment got to do with theory? Surely it's the same across every common western instrument which makes gcg an overspecialization and specific arrangement issue.

>go down to buy some strings, always get a'addarios >place is out of the ones I want, can't remember why I never get Ernie's balls so I grab two sets of them instead >go back home >start restringing guitar >high E breaks above nut while stringing, didn't even overtense >nigger it up and tie at the broken point, start winding again >breaks at another point above the nut again >fucked up by cutting off excess too early, no more string left to tie >take oldass, rusted d'addario E string, use that to tie to the end of the fresh Ernie E instead >start winding >breaks again, not on the oldass rusted d'addario but the fresh Ernie >give up, restring another guitar with the second set >a day later already oxidated to fuck with a nice brown-reddish sheen
Does anyone here actually like Ernie's balls? Holy shit these things are terrible.
What, is he really doing another Burzum album? I haven't seen any of his videos since they were taken off YT.

ew that headstock is turbo ugly. Finish is mad lame too.
Yeah, I just saw the link above. The sixth chord and the guitar threw me off already but I'm pretty faceblind.

Difference between fox and grapes and facts buddy. Thats an ugly shitplank that only a retard would put money down on. You'd be lucky re-sell it for $500
Its being resold for 3k. Retard. And its made of actual tonewood not scraps. You dont have money so this conversation is not for you.

Jordan Rivera
Lmfao im not a retard. Why would i want an overpriced b stock defective product?
Thats not even a defect. If you could actually AFFORD a guitar with nitro you would know that its normal to not go on as clean as your cheap plastic Dean. Please go educate yourself on guitar construction b4 trying to talk shit poorFAG

He said the Steinberger stayed in tune better during long stretches of recording but it didn't sound as good as the Les Paul. He ended up working out arrangements and demos using the Steinberger but when it came down to the actual recording he switched over to the Standard for the final tracks.
Aaron Martin
okay cool ... this doesn't prove Gibsons to be the best option though I am a Fender man myself
Luke Brooks
There is no best option. Everyone is different. Play what you want.
Brody Rivera
It proves that when the chips are down and it counts only a Gibson™ is good enough.
The true redpill is that any musician worth his salt will tell you gear matters very very little..
Alexander Myers
ymmv. desu iirc tone woods are no joke. you can't fake the mojo.
Asher Cox
They only matter on acoustics, hollows, and kind of on semi-hollows.
Lincoln Rivera
just enough for your coffin
Nolan Gomez
the real redpilled opinion is that gear is meant to inspire you to make something new, try a new pedal or amp and the new sound will help you create and be inspired to make new things, gear on its own doesnt matter but inspiration is how u make good music
Justin Nelson
I find it funny how butthurt niggas are that i play what i like
Brayden Price
so i'm already good with the guitar, how can i earn some money on the internet with it?

K-ON! offers a lot of insight into the mind (or lack of one) of the Gibson buyer who becomes the butt of all jokes.
You should listen to the sensible tsundere who, if you look closely, actually has a honeyburst LP at home that never leaves the wall as they are only really decorative items.
thanks. audio was a bit quiet i didn't notice when posting though. Here's a better one. vocaroo.com/i/s0kWPisvG1KP I might try doing a improvisation blues jam too but i'm not sure i'm good enough for that yet
I currently own this sweet guitar but lately I've been thinking on replacing the bridge pickup with a 60s/classic Jazzmaster single coil pickup, but perhaps it would be better to sell the guitar and buy a "proper" jazzmaster?
Thinking about painting my Strat vintage white or Buttercream.

lads i bought a guitar 3 days ago, and i just had my first lesson today. he wants me to learn 6 chords and play them in order while strumming on tempo. im having a hard time with this. any tips? I have to learn all these chords and learn how to transition between them smoothly by the end of the week. I'm having a hard time with muscle memory (in regards to learning the finger shapes) and smoothly transitioning between them. help?
Christian Harris
fuck off we're not your therapy group
Hunter Turner
Are we going to make fun of this guitar or not?
Thomas Stewart
try to make your strumming hand operate like a machine: constantly and without having to think too much about it perhaps you could try just strumming on tempo, disregarding the chords, until you can keep it steady
now, about the finger shapes, that's just practicing until you hand gets used to the movements and you know the frets well
fuck you, let the lad improve
Brayden Clark
where do i ask this question then
Nolan Johnson
Yeah, it's really jumping
Grayson Evans
Anyone know how to fix intonation between the open string and fretted 12th fret? I keep adjusting the screw and no matter what i do the fucking note of the 12th fret is sharp
Eli Stewart
adjust the string longer
Brody Thompson
thanks lad, so transitioning comes naturally when you get the finger shapes down right? how long is it gonna take me to play these chords right for my teacher?
Noah Phillips
How hard it will be to get the 80's hair rock/glam tone on a SSS strat?
he wants me to have C major, Gmajor, D major, A major, E major, and F major down
Isaac Evans
Take out the spring
Ayden Murphy
>so transitioning comes naturally when you get the finger shapes down right? yes. naturally some transitions are gonna be more difficult than others but it's just a matter of time and practice
>how long is it gonna take me to play these chords right for my teacher? well, it depends on how much time you dedicate each day for practising, but desu I don't think he actually expects you to achieve it in 3-4 days but, again, it depends on how much time you spend practising your chords it might get frustrating but you'll feel great once you make it baby steps, user
Jacob Rivera
What guitar?
Leo Ross
The order you posted will likely be the easiest for the transitions, as the fingers don't have to move too wildly between each shape I'd start by memorizing each chord shape/position until you can play it without having to reference, then start doing transitions
Blake Evans
That's a lot for so quickly. You are paying them right? If you don't like your teachers methods find a new teacher better suited for you. Practice a lot, practice slow on time with a metronome. Practice more.
Parker Evans
try going C>G>D>A>E>F might be easier
Matthew Jenkins
>a barre chord after only a week of playing, on top of the other chords garbage teacher, find somebody else
>inb4 all the insecure /gg/uitardites come out of the woodwork to say how they were playing yngwie on the first day they touched a guitar
Justin Lopez
Where do they mention having to learn a barre chord?
Isaac King
younling user said he has to learn F major
Landon Scott
my bad, forgot there's pleb fingerings for F major
Lincoln Rivera
Standard fingering doesn't include bottom E&A
Camden Cruz
The only chords I start students on are on the 3 Treble Strings in open position. This usually occurs within the first two months of lessons and works as a great method of reinforcing our note reading since I also write them out in standard notation.
Jayden Cook
sometimes I'll just avoid using a barring finger by muting both E strings when my wrist is getting tired or for some dramatic low E descent
Adam White
Those guys used superstrats. You done fucked up and bought a guitar for larping as boomer guitar heroes like hendrix and gilmour.
F was the first chord I learned you pussy. On a classical guitar too. My very first lesson was just holding an F, and then my second one was sliding it up and down the neck and just improvising off that chord shape (it didn't have to be good as long as the notes were clear). On a classical guitar.
Do you have any fucking clue how easy you chumps have it with shit like gibsons and fenders with their dramatically curved necks? I'm not anywhere near comfortable until the fretboard radius passes 15" because I learned on one that was completely flat.
Fenders are shitty guitars played by great people because gibsons were too easy to break when touring and didn't have good whammy bars. No reason to own them today if you didn't grow up with beck and hendrix.
Strat middle+neck pickups and tele bridge pickup sounds will always have a place in music
Adrian Baker
Ibanez anything prestige or custom
Cooper Allen
Nah, the SE HFS and Vintage Bass were pretty nice so I just got the USA versions of those from a '96 Custom 24 and wired them in like the CE24. That way the in split mode, there isn't a huge volume drop and you get a beefier single coil tone. I ordered a set of Grover 406C, should be here by weekend. The bridge is the same one that the CE24 uses. Might switch to the Man made version sometime in the future. The pots are the USA versions and the toggle is from switch craft. The nut is also changed.
Brayden Martin
>first vid >needs 4 individually recorded tracks >meanwhile
Bros, fenders are very genre specific, and there is nothing wrong with them for the genres that are built around them. Most pop music with electric guitar is fender based so you can play a lot of well known shit and sound right if you have one. In fact the whole reason the strat never had a tone knob for the bridge is because when playing swing/blues/country you didn't need one. The ultra bright twangy bridge was "the" lead sound like distorted mid scooped guitar is for metal.
However fender doesn't make anything under the fender name that's as ideal for jazz, classical, and metal (similar needs desu) as guitars built for people that play those genres and it's pretty rare for someone to have a stock fender and be any good in either of those fields.
Jace Johnson
But i do.
Justin Fisher
reminder that the les paul was meant to be a jazz guitar
Evan Lopez
What do you think about Takamine guitars?
Also stop shitposting about gears and post what you practiced today
Levi Williams
I am planning to get and electric Yamaha when I get good enough to play electric ones.
i associate fenders with a lot of emo and punk stuff too, telecasters are really popular with emo/mathrock type of stuff because of the twinkle
Chase Ortiz
They kind of suck desu. I owned one of their top of the line Japanese classicals and it still sounded like shit.
Nathaniel Cook
I have one of their super jumbo 12 strings, and it was great until my drummer busted it
Bentley Thompson
could anybody describe me the difference between the strat and tele inbetween positions? which of the two has more "quack"?
Ayden Phillips
no matter how vertical my fingertips are, if i play near the nut (42mm) the strings buzz against my fingertips, which are apparently too fat (they squish against the fretboard like marshmallows and i'm not even fat)
if i play higher on the fretboard this problem doesn't exist
do i actually need a 43mm or wider neck or is it just something that goes away with guitar calluses hardening up?
That kaka finish is probably the ugliest thing I've seen on a guitar
Cameron Cruz
This attitude is infesting music
See: Death of the guitar solo (and then slow rebirth as people realized some guys are actually good at it and don't just play a scale really fast)
William Martin
uh... no... no it isn't
solos "died" because bands realized the audience would rather just hear the chorus a few more times than Yet Another Guitar Solo
Adam Taylor
And then they came back because they realized some people liked good guitar playing
Only the shitty ones didn't, good riddance to those. Now we know of tempos other than 240bpm.
Adrian Sullivan
practice every day
Parker Hill
>they realized some people liked good guitar playing the only people in the audience that would give a shit about how skilled the guitar playing is are guitarists. as in, not most people unless you're trying to be another one of those guitarists that plays music for guitarists, of course
Ryan Carter
Yeah and concert pianists are a buncha circlekjerking showoffs
>hey fellow pianists look how fast i can press keys >woah
Caleb Perez
I'm thinking of buying a Roland GR33 guitar synthesizer.
My idea is to hoop that up with my looper and my multi fx pedal to do even more crazy stuff with it.
Do you guys think it's a good idea?
Charles Cruz
Should a beginner buy a cheap guitar and tube amp instead of a modelling combo?
Angel Clark
Yes. Used tube amps hold their value.
Gabriel Howard
All strings are pretty much the same. You must have done something totally retarded to break strings like that
Ryder Nelson
why are guitars so expensive
Austin Perez
the quality of the solo isn't based on showing off skill.
Kayden Lewis
>g string goes out of tune >headstock snaps off >sinks into the depths of hell from being so heavy.
"Only a le gibsoon is good enuf guiz! It has genuine toan wood unlike other guitars which do the same thing for half the price!"
Isaac Sullivan
A Fender deluxe is better than any Mustang or Champion?
Aiden Martinez
t. weakling
Aaron Johnson
Say you're playing a barre chord at a certain fret, and then you swap to a barre of the same shape at the next fret up - is it bad form, during the transition, to slide your fingers across the strings instead of taking them off fully?
Nathaniel Jones
Do you think "solo" is synonymous with shredding or something? Are you actually saying only "guitar people" can appreciate melodic passages and that having them in a song is purely for the sake of showing off technical skill?
Jonathan Gray
Do you want string sliding sound in your song? If yes, then no. If no, then yes.
Elijah Nguyen
Never buy a tube amp more powerful than 25w unless you want to chose between half decent tone and instant hearing loss
Easton Price
That would change the sound though. You'd get a glissando sound unless you release pressure.
Owen Garcia
AC30 though.
Michael Adams
guitars, which are perfectly usable at $500, getting pretty nice all around at $1000, over the top good at $1500, just stupidly fancy at $2000, and offer diminishing returns past that, are expensive?*
you need to look at the prices on some violins
*double the price if the brand is gibson, and say the diminishing returns start instantly
Benjamin Cook
So for someone who will be learning in a bedroom, should I be getting a tube or solid state?
Cooper Wright
Fender super sonic, it'll make anything sound good as evidenced by this video where a student-grade korean guitar with no-name pickups sounds okay next to a top of the line telecaster.
you're also paying for prestige, finishes, and if you buy from the right people, durability, tuning stability, and a neck that'll move less than a pitch drop experiment regardless of the weather. and the odd gimmick like headless guitars with asymmetrical neck profiles.
or you could buy a gibson and just get the prestige but with the same fucked up finish, multi-piece body, so-so durability and tuning stability, and floppy neck as a $500 guitar but for four times the price.
Isaiah Baker
I don't want sliding sounds, no, but this pretty much answered my question, thanks. I'm fairly new and sometimes resort to sliding out of laziness, by not being patient and not slowing down to practice. But I guess I should be aiming to become good enough so that I can do either whenever I choose to.
Samuel Myers
Cheap solid state amps have okay-to-good clean sounds but if you want to hear a good overdriven sound, ranging from vintage sounding breakup to full on metal you either need tubes or digital modeling that costs as much as tubes. Because all the sounds you're used to are either tubes or expensive modeling gear that simulates them well enough.
>Do you think "solo" is synonymous with shredding or something? nope, never said that >Are you actually saying only "guitar people" can appreciate melodic passages nope, never said that >and that having them in a song is purely for the sake of showing off technical skill? nope, never said that that's a lot of assumptions you made there
sure, it was him who brought skill into the argument though or am i wrong to assume good guitar playing means skilled guitar playing?
posting in case i missed user's music theory system
Jackson Nelson
>And not made of plywood. You jest but it wouldn't even be an issue if it was actually made from plywood. youtube.com/watch?v=hEoYNoBjT3U
If you're a beginner: get a great amp instead of a great guitar. It'll affect the tone more and it will keep more of its original value over time. Also, a lot of beginners go about picking out guitars the completely wrong way. Go to a music store, try a bunch of different guitars and take notes regarding what you like about the different models. Maybe you like the curve of a certain neck, the scale lenght, the width of the neck, the size of the frets. Playability is, especially with electric guitars, the most important thing. Making a guitar sound good is one thing but finding one that's actually nice and fun to play is what's gonna make or break your relationship to that guitar (and as a beginner just starting out; perhaps your feelings about playing guitar in general.)
Jaxson Morris
Well plywood won’t age as well as literally anything else is all I meant. And I’d also add to what you said to not listen to ANY guitar store worker. If they rec something, get the model down and google it. Especially amps
William Collins
>or am i wrong to assume good guitar playing means skilled guitar playing? Yes and no. Skill isn't just mechanical.
Isaiah Scott
A beginner guitar player isn't going to be able to jidge "playability" "scale length" and all the other shit you mentioned when they don't even know how to form aa sibgle chord shape. Building up tje finger strength for barre chords takes weeks if not a month and somehow someone who can't even play a fucking cowboy chord is going to be able to tell which one will eventually feel better by aimlessly molesting the neck?
Ayden Morgan
snooping around my local craigslist for my first bass. any tips to not get scammed?
