Leonard Cohen. Because he's dead.

Dylan is a better song writer and band leader (cohen never sounded as good as dylan live as dylan in 66 world tour and rolling thunder). Cohen is the better lyric writer and live performer.

ultimately its up 2 you who you think is better.

also cohen is the better writer because he seems to write directly to the soul while dylan obfuscates (though probably not on purpose). they're both great but i see people lean more towards cohen because he writes soul-crushing lyrics that are powerful on the surface but also have incredible depth.

Leonard Cohen is the better/more evocative writer whereas Dylan is prolific as fuck and more culturally important. Dylan's songs are denser and he writes more like an author, while Cohen is a poet through and through

How can you even compare them?
Dylan is a Jew

Dylan’s prolificness makes it hard to tell. He has a lot more good songs than Leonard, he also has a lot more bad songs

dylan because i like his music more :)

Cohen is the one who can actually sing.

user I...

Cohen is a poet for people who don't actually read poetry and only have a superficial idea of what it is.

Dylan could only dream of writing something as amazing and culturally relevant as Hallelujah.

Dylan is definitely the better singer. You may not like his voice per se, but he has impeccable timing and diction.

In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need
When the pool of tears beneath my feet floods every newborn seed
There's a dying voice within me reaching out somewhere
Toiling in the danger and the morals of despair
Don't have the inclination to look back on any mistake
Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break
In the fury of the moment I can see the master's hand
In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand
Oh, the flowers of indulgence and the weeds of yesteryear
Like criminals, they have choked the breath of conscience and good cheer
The sun beams down upon the steps of time to light the way
To ease the pain of idleness and the memory of decay
I gaze into the doorway of temptation's angry flame
And every time I pass that way I'll always hear my name
Then onward in my journey I come to understand
That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand
I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night
In the violence of a summer's dream, in the chill of a wintry light
In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space
In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face
I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea
Sometimes I turn, there's someone there, other times it's only me
I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand

like a rolling stone
also cohen's version isn't even the culturally relevant version of hallelujah, nor is the studio version especially amazing. cale saved that song.

Dylan has the better career overall but cohen peak is higher.

Higher than bringing it all back home - highway 61 - blonde on blonde back to back?

Man I really love Cohens lyrics but I get pretty bored of him musically, he's so repetitive abd meandering it hurts. His diction too jfc. Even though it's all "pleasant" and inoffensive it still just starts to grate on me at some point.

Cohen's 1st, 3rd and 4th album are 10/10s and a lot of cuts off his middle period are great. Also YWiD crushes anything dylan has made since the 70s.
Dylan is great but there's a limit to how much he can affect me, whereas cohen is like an actual friend in my life.

like every song on songs of leonard cohen sound sounds at least a little bit like suzanne and its fuckin weird that its rarely mentioned anymore. hes obv a poet first and songwriter second, like patti smith etc. and it's always really hard to compare them to other ppl

Cohen has better voice

Early Cohen is better than Early Dylan but Middle/Late Dylan is better than Middle/Late Cohen
