Welcome to /shugazi/, the comfiest general on Yea Forums. This thread is dedicated to the discussion of Shoegaze, Dream Pop, Noise Pop, Blackgaze and other sub-genres. Slow Core, Twee Pop and Ethereal Wave welcome as well. Come discuss your favorite albums/artists, explore new things and banter with your fellow shoegazers. As always, shilling playlist to spread the love: open.spotify.com/user/comfydaddy/playlist/1HkipeBXaIwCyq8rYL7gio?si=W7OCyoaZT4-enI193IQVyw What are you guys currently listening to? I'm listening to Seely youtube.com/watch?v=IPIZkcnflDU
The majority of people would agree this is the pinnacle of the genre and therefore it attracts all the shoegaze tourists. Shoegaze can sound a bit samey to a lot of people who don't want to dive in and they are content with listening to MBV/Slowdive/Ride. Nothing against Loveless though, it deserves most of the praise and probably IS arguably the best of the genre, but there is so much more.
It's the same case with other genres as well. Discussion of genres such as emo, jazz or metal are a waste of time outside of their respective generals in Yea Forums.
It's a real shame that /emoe/ and /shugazi/ are so dead now. I remember when I did this chart in 2015. The already dying /shugazi/ general was so active back in those days in comparison to the current state.
There was a time when Candy Claws, Kairon; IRSE! and Blonde Redhead's 23 were very well discussed in Yea Forums, though.
I feel that bands like Autolux, Silversun Pickups and Deerhunter (specially on Microcastle) played on a similar vein. You should totally check them out as well.
Levi Miller
opps. I do remember Misery Is A Butterfly being pretty good
Tru, but Heaven or Las Vegas is probably the most accessible and a good way for newbies to get into shoegaze. If they don't get it when they hear Cherry Colored Funk then they're never going to get it.
Nathan Jenkins
Deerhunter I feel is a good transition artists between genres. Especially dream pop/neo psych
Connor Gray
Trying desperately to find bands that do Kraus' brand of loud, dreamy sounding noiserock
I know these are well-known, but give them a try if you haven't already. Whirr - Distressor Nothing - Guilty of Everything Astrobrite - Pinkshinyultrablast Tokyo Shoegazer - Crystallize
Carter Morales
One of the top 10 albums of the decade in my opinion. She found Now is so beautiful, Wonder 2 is the most bizarre of closers
Jackson Gomez
Very true lol. My other normie breaker tracks are Sugar Hiccup, Blue Bell Knoll and Pandora
Love Lowlife. Really like that dreary post punk/dream pop sounds. Would rec Sad Lovers and Giants, The Chameleons and THE NAMES for that same type of sound. Kitchens of Distinction is a good shoegaze/postpunk mashup as well
Oh hey it's another one of these. I'm sure most of you have listened, reminder that: Sweet Trip, Lush, Lilys, A Sunny Day In Glasgow, Pale Saints, and Alvvays are essentials if you learn on the dream pop side. Also that Loveliescurling is a mediocre band that people rec for whatever fucking reason. Also, anyone listen to Tennis System? Been interested in getting into their smol discog and want to see if anyone with taste has given it a chance
Agreed, listened to that and Technicolor, which is just a summerwave mix that's worse than Sunny Day in Glasgow. Namesake track and Such a Drag were pretty good

Dominic Sanders
Of all the albums I have listen to so far on this chart. Mass of Fermenting Dregs is the only one I like.
Andrew Rivera
Check out Skywave if you haven't already
William Morgan
Have you tried Kinoko Teikoku, tricot or My Dead Girlfriend? You might like these if you haven’t
Aaron Sanders
New one is pretty good too
David Sanchez
Yes but which one?
Chase Ward
She Found now is one of their best. Top 5 for sure. For me it's their best song.
Depreciation Guild for me. It’s pretty upbeat with more chiptune and electronic elements. Sweet Trip as well for the same reason m.youtube.com/watch?v=4ShwvRYAbcw
I stopped browsing Yea Forums around the time the shoegaze general changed name to /shugazi/ because of that one moron, so I don't know how often "Weed" is shilled. Their debut "Deserve" is still absolute gold and I highly recommend it to any fans of Nothing - Guilty of Everything.
I can't believe that fucking faggot "Goslings" managed to shill his garbage music so hard that it hasn't been removed from the charts.
Hunter Fisher
man i kind of like you guys but most of the time I wish all of you were dead yeah
Gabriel Scott
Good running music is basically good dancing music imo. Shoegaze isnt usually very danceable but the same rule applies, whatever shoegaze makes you want to dance is good running music. Here's a shoegaze track/album that i liked running too: youtu.be/GLHZ98Alk4Q This too: youtu.be/CNbd8srJBTA And get some Soundpool (and Stargazer Lilies) in your life: youtu.be/OvuiklhLoog
Josiah Cooper
>Soundpool not him but that sounds really good. nice!
Nolan Hall
Soundpool is nice and pretty unique. Slide reccing The Veldt and the 3rd Chapterhouse album for more strange shoegaze/alt dance combos
Jaxson Parker
I always say repeat on Yea Forums, If I Am is one my favorite songs from this decade and probably my favorite by them youtube.com/watch?v=e1rTrglSUk4
also, this
Liam Wood
it's the best rock record of the decade
Benjamin Brooks
>Also that Loveliescurling is a mediocre band that people rec for whatever fucking reason. hey bloweyelashwish is a masterpiece!
Nathan Wilson
I've posted it before and it looks like I'm posting it again.
any rockish shoegaze album with no overwhelmingly loud music?
Colton Lee
nah it was me (not him) i used to spam it a long time ago
Jayden Nguyen
>Swervedriver >True Widow >Whipping Boy >Sun Dial >Hum >Catherine Wheel >Smashing Orange >Catherine >Ride >Starflyer 59 All of these artists I'd say blends rock and shoegaze to some degree
