How come EVERYBODY agrees these 4 albums are top 10 best shoegaze albums ever? It’s always something like this in a top 5: 1- Loveless 2- Souvlaki 3- Nowhere 4- Treasure 5- Just for a Day
Is it THAT obvious that Ride, Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine are the best shoegaze bands ever?
it just feels like the genre was solved almost immediately - I like shoegaze but its quite limited so part of me thinks its just a timing reason they are considered the best
>no Pygmalion in the top 5 Not everyone agrees, OP.
Tyler Turner
>no Storm in Heaven or Chrome
Dylan Harris
I just think there's something so scintillating about Slowdive's music. They create moods/emotions for me that no other music can. It perfectly captures the sound of teenage angst and heartbreak but also those extremely joyful moments. It's hard to explain.

Pitchfork top 3: 1- Loveless 2- Souvlaki 3- Nowhere Scaruffi top 10: 1- Loveless 2- Just for a Day 9- Nowhere (And he doesn’t consider Treasure shoegaze, but dream pop. And that’s for him the best dream pop album).
In Loudersound’s best shoegaze albums without order: Loveless, Nowhere and Souvlaki appear
Discogs top 3: 1- Loveless 2- Nowhere 3- Souvlaki
Acording to NME: 1- Loveless 3- Souvlaki 4- Isn’t Anything 5- Nowhere 6- Going Blank Again 10- Just for a Day
you meant to post ywnkw, which is mostly a shoegaze album

You are garbage.

But Pygmalion is better than Souvlaki user

Ride and Slowdive aren't on the same level as Cocteau Twins and MBV imo. I'd gladly replace Nowhere with something by Swirlies, Stereolab, or Sweet Trip
Swervedriver and Catherine Wheel were the easily the best and most consistently rewarding shoegaze bands(aside from maybe MBV and the Mary Chai) but they were both also bands which you explicitly needed to have a social life and get laid to understand, which is why the socially crippled "true shoegaze" bedsit crowd never gave them the time of day. It is deeply unsettling that a total nothing band like Slowdive now has more of a legacy than either of these absolute masters of geetah music.
This thread brought to you by: genre tourism You NPCs have no personal taste I swear Here's my top 5 1.Deathconsciousness 2.Tired of Tomorrow 3.Velocity:Design:Comfort 4.Dead Cities 5.Lesser Matters
We can respect the classics but personally I'd rather listen to any of these albums before I listen to even Loveless
Ask yourself how many shoegaze bands there actually are. It's not much of a genre unto itself. It was like grunge in that it was a scene of musicians mostly in the UK with different influences that get lumped into one "genre"

based, listening to it right now

Chocolate Matter is the greatest shoegaze song ever made which automatically puts VDC in the top 4 no matter what other songs are on the album.
Pic related is better than Souvlaki and Nowhere, though I wouldn't call it better than Loveless. It's not exactly underrated but it does deserve more people listening to it. the first track is great but after that it sorta just goes into what sounds like excessive kevin shields worship and that goes for a lot of astrobrite's music. Lovesliescrushing is the better Scott Cortez project. Deathconciousness is not a shoegaze album Both very based, Sairon is also in my top 5
It's also good proof that is wrong when you're not talking about broad strokes. There is a lot of shoegaze artists who don't know how to approach the genre with their own style and ideas, but you don't have to look that hard to find people who've found a niche of their own. Was actually gonna post cause it's not a shoegazi thread without people drooling over it but pic related is also dope and came out this year so yeah.
