in what universe?

Sonic Youth

Ours.

Yes

The Cure, New Order

XTC?
Not sure I'd call their later stuff "pop" tho

dean blunt, yves tumor

The Beastie Boys

Blondie. New Wave/Disco suited them much better than trying to be a punk band.

This band

Low

Manic Street Preachers

Came here to post this.

Silverchair. Young Modern is A+

RHCP. Their early albums are just mediocre funk jam shit with juvenile lyrics.

Imagine Dragons

No, Goo and Dirty are among their worst albums. That said, Rather Ripped is actually good and arguably poppier than those two but their full on attempt at trendier crossovers was their career low point.

Linkin Park was pop the moment they started writing Hybrid Theory and dropped nearly all pretense otherwise with Minutes to Midnight.

>Linkin Park was pop the moment they started
no it's nu-metal

the Gadgets

Linkin Park's first 2 albums were nu metal with the edges smoothed out and the production as pitch perfect as can be. It was pop with distorted guitars and it's not like they didn't have a gift for sticky choruses the whole time. Only their most ardent haters would even attempt to deny the power of their hooks.

No

Maybe

That works up until Daydream Nation, then happens, only Rather Ripped also sucks I have no idea what the fuck that guy was talking about
Also my answer is Coil

death from above 1979, jesus christ the potential was there

I don't know

Joy Division/New Order

>No, Goo and Dirty are among their worst albums.
i love both these albums, rather ripped sucks

>No, Goo and Dirty are among their worst albums

I will never understand people trying to sound elitist with big name poppy bands that never were all that experimental in the first place.
Fucking listen to Brainbombs already.

(specially you)
(and you)
>unironically thinking this

>implying

Royksopp

>The cure
Not true, their best lyrical and music production peaked pre-the top album. Every album after became as radio friendly as it gets (except disintegration)

>Implying that most of these are serious

Let's Go To Bed was the moment The Cure started to make real music

Brainbombs’ sound is far more primitive vs what Sonic Youth has done on their more experimental albums. Not sure if this comparison even makes sense.

Confusion is Sex is their best album, don't even try to disagree because you know it's right

If you meant real music to be sold, then you are right. They should've broke up by then and named themselves different.

Pop-rock The Cure = gothic The Cure in terms of quality

Metallica

Just replace "pop" with "butt rock"

Can you repeat the question?

EVOL and Daydream Nation, yes. Goo and Dirty, not so much.

Treble Charger

Sweet trip

Lol
>They listen to soi the soirizoi

I think SY 80s output and 90s output can't really be compared, mainly because of the loss of experimentation.

I don't know how this hasn't been posted yet, but The Clash, The Microphones and Animal Collective (although you can kind of argue that anco was always poppy I guess).

I can see many people making this point for The Replacements, but I couldn't disagree more.

green day

liz phair
billy idol

If they'd finished their career at The Mollusk I'd be tempted to agree other than the fact that The Pod is their best album. Almost everything after The Mollusk is worse than almost everything before it

>He doesn't think STGSTV is their best album
>He thinks that late AnCo > early AnCo given their 3 most recent albums

I don’t completely agree, but based for liking Young Modern.

Still nu metal though

fucking this

Absolutely false
