Folk music

More like this?
((I already know about Nick Drake no worries))

Albums with solo guitar and singing is highly requested, but any other types of folk is also appreciated.

Cheers.

Definitely check out Renbourn and Jansch

Listening now, great stuff

Dave Bixby - Ode to Quetzacoatl
Phil Keaggy - Beyond Nature
John Fahey - The Yellow Princess

John Martyn. Solid Air is probably his best album but it doesn't have a lot of solo guitar and voice on it. Alternatively, just look up his live performances, they're all solo.

Wilco and Billy Bragg - Mermaid Avenue

Yeah I've listened to some Martyn already. Should probably check out more.

I rode my bike past his school the other day looking for a good spot to smoke weed

Townes Van Zandt

Abner Jay maybe?

Have you heard about a guy called Bob Dylan?

How's this? Maybe not exactly what you had in mind, but I think this is a good enough place to post it.

Lots of good stuff in this thread, but I would recommend that at some point, you go deeper than the 60s folk revival stuff and listen to some of the earlier musicians they were drawing from. There are lots of good anthologies from labels like Smithsonian Folkways but the most foundational one of all is Harry's Smith's Anthology of Folk Music which comes to a total of six discs. It was a common practice for the folk influenced songwriters of the 60s to learn this collection inside and out before they even tried their hand at writing songs of their own. Here's a few of my favorite tracks below, but it's a really eclectic offering. Part of the experience is digging through the massive pile of material to see which songs you find worth carrying with you.
