tl:dr: aging, trans, "indie rock" musician complains about being poor and irrelevant in the post 2010 economy.
God I remember listening to this band back in high school and even then all the hipsters were insufferably shilling them. And now most of these bands from the pre 2010 era have been phased out of viability due to the changing economy.
if you've never heard a song from this band, they're most famous for their song "Deceptacon" which was used in the meme video "Regie Fils Aime - My body is ready"
There is nothing to learn lmao, dumbass 15 year olds have been doing it for a century now. If you are dumb enough to become a fulltime musician without a fallback plan do not go crying about how you don't wanna work when you are fully capable of working somewhere.
>33 >officially too old to join the police force straight up fucking false. This person is a fucking moron
Luke Garcia
>I have no marketable skills or experience >five paragraphs later >I will always be a queer woman, a woman who makes 77 cents to the man’s dollar The fact that she sees nothing wrong with bitching about a gender pay gap while also complaining that she's a loser with no talent outside of her art that is not profitable is enraging and hilarious
/pol/ literally runs Yea Forums now, I hate it but it's time admit it.
Jaxon Bailey
So she bitches about poor living conditions in urban areas but advocates for open borders and increased illegal immigration? What a dumb hoe, why are liberal literally incapable of looking more than 5 minutes into the future?
Chase Brown
>"Because when he met me he saw a tattooed gender outlaw who makes “queer electronic punk music” and isn’t sure when the next check is going to come in? Yeah, I don’t blame him. He doesn’t give a shit about how kids email me all the time thanking me for keeping them from committing suicide. It’s not part of his capitalist business practice." Living stereotype
Wyatt Torres
lmao

Listen up, plebs
""""""Le Tigre"""""" are fucking shit, end of fucking story.
Their music is totally uninspired and just plain boring, absolute joke, nobody wants to listen to it, they were cancelled from the start.
Go to university, study a core subject (can be a humanity or a science), or get a trade/apprenticeship in a field that actually matters, like electrical engineering or architecture etc
Sincerely,
A based user
Asher Gutierrez
What are you even saying? Do you want to subsidize Le Tigre's career? No one's stopping you senpai.
Ethan Long
>WAAH I should get paid to make shitty indie dance music with awful singing cope, get a real job if you can't handle it
Jordan Gray
Imagine unironically supporting neoliberalism while pretending to be a 'music fan' holy fucking cringe
Brody King
wow what a dumb bitch she should have had a fallback plan in place but no she believed in "the American Rockstar dream" that never happened for her and her band
>What are you even saying? I'm saying if people actually complied to the ridiculous worldview being espoused ITT then basically none of your favourite bands would have ever existed This entire thread is a neoliberal wet dream, just an army of retards getting enraged at the idea that anyone would be audacious enough to pursue something other than lifelong mediocrity
Cameron Jones
okay so its a trannie lesbian, I know nothing about that shitty band
Chase Myers
op is just a tad worse than the linked article.
who doesn't know how hard a life in the arts is? in this particular sphere every "my shit is hard cuz queer" has its opposite.
regardless, shits hard and we should all band together and vote Bernie/warren and fix this shithole for real.
fuck your parade.
Gavin Rivera
>you don’t share my opinion so you’re an evil boogeyman
Brody Perez
Nah m8, the answer is definitely that every struggling musician who ever lived should call it quits and major in business studies so they can live a respectable life doing data entry 9-5. Yea Forums told me, so it must true.
Dylan Morgan
lol music isn't even real so yeah
Samuel Miller
Nigga, you can make music and have a normal job at the same time. You don't need to demand other people give you their money to finance you making some bullshit no one wants.
Bentley Smith
music, literature, and film are all platforms for propaganda. thus, Yea Forums, Yea Forums, and Yea Forums are all naturally propaganda wings for /pol/.
doesn't help that most musicians are leftist faggots anyway.
Colton Jenkins
>involving yourself in the arts in a capitalist society literally why

Creating something meaningful for potentially millions of people is a lot more beneficial to most people than if they got a job at a hotel or something

>move to one of the most expensive cities on earth >complain that your hobby doesn’t pay the bills Why do millennials do this? You guys realize that if you just stayed in b- and c- tier cities you’d have won all the presidential elections since 2008 and had much more money, right? Why did you all take the coast pill?
Isaiah Taylor
I’m a liberal arts degree fag and it’s easy to get a job if you try to go into white collar work and can write above a second grade level. I will never understand why everyone I know who’s in the same boat decided to chase their dream of being an aluminum foil sculptor in Bushwick or Silverlake instead of just growing up and getting paid a decent middle class salary in a cheap comfy heartland city
Blake Edwards
It's literally the only system where you can make money on art, dumbass
Wyatt Thompson
>make shrill shitty fotw indie pop >think you’re going to impact people long-term and have a legacy besides listicles of “forgotten bands of 2009” You’re so fucking delusional if you think you’re owed a salary for doing the bare minimum to make pop ditties. If you want to get paid to make music and leave art that will stand the test of time as a suburban normie with nothing of consequence to say, go through conservatory and compose forward-thinking music
Christopher Scott
Then explain state subsidized radio programs in the eastern bloc that basically invented the entire spectrum of sound collage techniques you hear on the radio today as sampling, faggot
Levi Kelly
you are not true at all
Nathaniel Cook
imagine thinking conservatories teach you how to make good music
No I’m not (pic related) and I think being a business major is a blue pill for retards who can’t read. You should major in something interesting and enjoyable in college so that your spoken and written language skills and problem solving abilities are exercised, preparing you for management instead of paper pushing. If you have family money, business major makes sense cause it gives you the basics of how to invest capital you already have. But if you’re middle class, you’re just getting a slip of paper that lets rich kids use you to cover up mistakes in their own enterprises
Imagine being such a turbopleb that you can’t into contemporary composition Government != socialism but being a member country of the USSR certainly Makes you socialist

Honestly could care less for the opinions of loser white men. Especially on this forum. They don't do anything productive on this board. I just like to see new music they say is bad but turns out just to not be the smiths or something they like.

I will stand by my conviction that the vast majority of musicians crowd an overcrowded marketplace. They contribute nothing interesting to the world. The trade off they get is 20s full of cross-country and even international adventure and random thot sex. But I don’t feel bad for 30/40+ boomers who never learned to hang up their guitars and join the real world or even fucking change their sound to stay relevant who now want to bitch about how poor they are. They made their choice. I don’t quit my day job to self publish philosophy books or twitch stream or a thousand other ways I could technically monetize hobbies because I have a brain.
Levi Edwards
your comment about an over crowded market place is false. the market is both entirely manipulated, at the higher end, and entirely subject to the base demands of the crowd at the lower. and I don't think its being crowded truly slices the pie in a way that cant support more artists.
nor do I think that is the only way to have the arts in our lives. modern American art is closely tied to YES CIA FUNDING and the GI bill and things like the WPA.
"interesting tot the world"? that isn't worth a rebuttal.
the "trade off" - that's massively uninformed and not worth a rebuttal.
'they made their choice" - yes they did.
if oyu had a good brain and could get your philosophy book out, humanity would e worse for it.
since you don't, suck a turd out my ass, cunt.
if you thought anything you had to say was important, youd quit your fucking day job.
even einstein was basically given a job from a connected friend of his. relativity lol whatever!
Lincoln Thompson
fuck me
: if you had a good brain and couldn't get your book out, humanity would be the worse for it.

Carter Sanders
Also, it’s certainly controlled too much in the ways you describe but what you fail to acknowledge is that most people, like Le Tigre, adapt to that market slice instead of charting genuinely new territory. Music as a whole isn’t over saturated, but dime a dozen indie pop acts are. If you try to make a living making fotw shit, you deserve to be poor. To use my earlier metaphor, if someone started a twitch channel for fortnite right now where they appeal to a younger demographic and yell at the game, they’d be a complete retard
Adam Miller
I guess professional musicians didn't exist before capitalism then
Nolan Wright
>Vote Bernie/Warren and fix this shithole for real
Bro, if you want to have an economically viable solution for making music as a career, You would unironically choose Yang for the democratic platform
>Literally the only candidate pushing for a universal basic income
Bernie and warren are literal dinosaurs who don't understand how the modern economy works or the innovative solutions needed to solve today's economic problems. They just virtue signal and bait leftists with their liberal agendas but when it comes to actually making your lives better by improving the economy, they'll do nothing. Yang is the only practical democrat this time around. don't believe me? read this.
Is that a man that became a women or a woman that became a man? I don’t know what that thing is or what it’s trying to pass itself off ass all I know is makes me wanna puke
Lucas Evans
music minor here
inb4 "this retard actually minored in music". My Major was Structural Engineering. I minored in music just as an interest.
but holy fuck. the "contemporary" music classes i had to take were insufferable. it was just a bunch of ponytail'd grad students circlejerking on who amongst them would be the next john cage and right 4 minutes of nothing on a piece of paper and get that recognized as art. none of that shit was listenable. I have more enjoyment listening to hans zimmer soundtracks than that pretentious faff. Conservatories produce 2 kinds of musicians: People that are going to be playing classical and jazz standards and are just going to be playing music that smarter and more creative people before them made
and the 2nd type which are post modern faux "geniuses" who all think they're the next big thing for turning on a synth and making a song that consists of 2 sin waves and a cymbal fucking aroudn for 9 minutes.
Hell even my friend, who is an accomplished jazz pianists and who graduated from Berklee told me that it was all bullshit and he was in massive debt and ended up going back to do a second bachelor's in comp sci at columbia.
Elijah Price

i work as a construction consultant now. in a flyover state making 6 figures. I just use that money to build my own music studio and do music on my own time. So I don't know bro....does it seem that retarded?
Zachary Miller
Article clearly says she made some money but didn't save any, instead burnt it all by moving to a hella expensive city and pretending to be rich by consuming too much useless shit.
Seems like there's nothing wrong with economy for artists, I wish I could move to New York and spend hella money on food and drinks, god damn man.

Correct: professional musicians didn't exist before capitalism.

This thread is too hilarious. Of course you will never make it as a rich musician. Its like winning the lotto except there's zero effort in winning the state lottery, and you have to bust your ass to make music, record, shill & tour and you still end up poor as fuck. I want as many /mu dumbasses to have a go so i can kek more i'm a professional construction engineer and i make more money per year than all but a handful of the most commercially successful musicans.
Nolan Gray
Genuinely curios: Do you enjoy what you do? Do you ever feel fulfilled by your work? Looking at a trade as a backup plan and would love to know.
Camden Bell
Yes. Like every occupation the first 5 years sucks because youre the office junior, and in training, but afterwards its easy as any job. I still kick around in bands, record music, etc. but at least i'm not a poor fag. I can afford my own studio, buy gear, go overseas, own 4 cars all garaged. Whats not to like about my world. I easily make over $140k per year. I would rather go spend hundreds in beer at a live music bar than play music anyways. I still play a few times a year. I have friends in the late 30s (old fag here) who did the whole "i wanna be famous" muso thing in their 20s and they ALL regret it now. Some even made it as far as overseads tours and festival slots. But theyre all poor as fuck, and struggle to do any employment. Who wants to hire a slacker in their late 30s who have never had a job except being "struggling musician" who put out an album 15 years ago and did a VANS warped tour?
Andrew Wright
same here this is me i think we both made the right decision with similar occupations and love of making music.

She's a 40 year old non-binary transsomething, I'm honestly shocked she hasn't 40%ed herself by now. She got interviewed this year by some feminist blog, if you can believe it.

Art was so much better under Mao
Matthew Baker
I think things will probably pick up for them (or the one that isn't from a rich family or something I didn't read the article). There was a documentary on the BBC the other day and ska and two tone bands from the 80s still tour and play festivals, a lot of them say they're making more money now than they did when they were popular, all you have to do is have a few hits and a devoted niche or genre fanbase that has more disposable income because they're boomers now. Their fans are a few years away from this so they will be pretty comfortable if they can exploit this.
James Martin
Art was unironically better in the Soviet Union though, but you do realise there are other systems that exist other than capitalism and state worship dictatorships, right?
This thread is fucking embarrassing. Is this what mutt hours are like on Yea Forums? I miss the days when Americans on the internet were somewhat self-aware
Le Tigre was the most savvy and hip band I've ever heard. Somehow they just got it and it oozed off of everything they did. Then they release that track in support of Hillary Clinton and it is the single most out of touch thing I've ever heard. They didn't just swing and miss, they threw the fucking bat into the crowd.
Caleb Butler
Lyme's disease has really done a number on her.
