>indie rock was invented in 1999
*PAVEMENT blocks your path
this, holy shit, is this your first indie album.
Two of my favorite 10/10s
That isn't Telephone Free Landslide Victory
Indie really began like 20 years before this came out
You couldn't have made a post that made you look any stupider.
*cough**cough*
Yes
what? no
Oh, hey, what were you puny earthlings with your diminutive brains attempting to discuss?
he’s right
Yes, it wasn't invented but it reached it's pinnacle in 1999
Still wrong it hit it's peak in 1997.
Based
seriously, what can be considered the first indie act (or at least the first to reach something similar to the indie sound)?
mission of burma? replacements? rem? sonic youth? flipper? pixies? half japanese? hüsker du? fucking wire?
>actually invents indie rock
>heavily influences shoegaze
this, the absolute state of Yea Forums
other possible answer is Doolittle
nice bait. indie rock is from 2010? Someone I Used To Know? Name one indie rock song that was popular before that
its not even indie rock
The Strokes - Is This It
Beat Happening - Beat happening
The Shaggs - Philosophy of This World
>*Invents indie in 1972*
The Smith's and REM are acceptable answers for "inventors of indie rock"
good question
Would the Velvet Underground not be the grandfathers of indie?
If in sound if nothing else
I did research on this topic many artists tried to be indie in the 60s when they were big to control thier music. However the labels would just buy them out right away. This most famously happened with the Beatles and the kinks. The true first wave of indie labels started in late 70s now the first ever band to release something on thier own was the buzzcocks with thier debut EP spiral scratch. They recorded them by themselves made a run of it themselves sold it themselves and promoted themselves on the first ever indie label ever new hormones
That's not Half Japanese or R. Stevie Moore or Half Man Half Biscuit or the Clean or Throwing Muses
Also the concensus of what indie is pretty crappy desu, one could say that the fist garage rock bands like the sonics, them, stooges and vu were the pioneers, other could say the first jangle pop bands or the first post-punks bands
Yeah it's ambiguous as shit
nop
user already posted it. CVB laid down the blueprint for indie rock in 85.

fucking kek
shit album
shit fans
some constructed criticism from random user
ok i take that, cvb has that sound for sure, also the clean released some compilations in those years so i guess that counts (them being australian explains why they didn't have that english jangly sound)
>indie is short for independent
>someone invented it
lol
There are a lot of progenitors but I'd say indie conclusively began in 88 with Daydream Nation and Surfer Rosa
The Beatles invented indie rock with Dear Prudence zoomers
stfu
This album unironically invented indie rock. Frank Black lifted Jeff's vocal style and the guitar work is somewhere between REM and Sonic Youth, both of which had yet to form. Nobody on here knows it for some reason despite Scaruffi giving it a 9.
I prefer Key Lime Pie
there are gun club threads every week man, not everyone agrees with scaruffi. kinda ridiculous that that’s his #1 punk album and entertainment isn’t even in top 100.
>invents the sound that later was used in indie rock
>The Strokes
>indie
nice try, goyim
>invents music
