I always recommend going chronologically, but for time sake I’d say start with Number of the Beast. Then Go to either Powerslave or Seventh Son and then revisit the rest of their discography as you like. Great riffage from the band often credited with twin guitar shredding, and Nicko McBrain is one of the greatest non-prog/jazz drummers ever imo. Bruce Dickinson has amazing pipes and Steve Harris is a total Chad as evidenced in pic related.

I'm gonna go against the grain and say that there is so much more interesting stuff to come out of the metal scene than just the classics and the big 4 thrash bands. Yeah they're the OGs and have been massively influential, but they're not the be all and end all of metal.

A recent thread where people posted their favorite genres revealed most of the people here who like black metal aren't metalheads at all, and are only into that single genre meanwhile listen to shit like indie, shoegays, and post punk

Seems most black metal fans at least on here only like it for the obscure appeal and lowfiness of it all

I'm mainly into BM metal-wise. Got into metal long before coming here, though, and hardly listen to that other stuff mentioned. Might listen to some other metal or rock occasionally; other music to explore as well. Not overly concerned with "being metal", just avoid the stuff that doesn't interest me as much.
