I'm 30 and don't know shit about playing instruments or reading music notes. Is it worth trying to learn piano, or is it too late?

it's never to late to have fun

>only one shot at life on earth

Too late to become a professional pianist and make a career out of it? Possibly.
But if your intention is to simply play music with no obligations, then obviously not.

it's not that hard, you can do it user, I'm beginning learning myself

>no PC
>no amplifier
>guitar plugged into nothing
wtf is going on in this pic

Just do it what do you have to lose? Do you want to be a concertist? If so, drop that dream it's stupid. Do you wanna compose, record, release, and perform music? If so, do it, there isn't any reason not too

I've been playing seriously since I was a teenager, dropped out of music school in uni, and have played in a shit ton of bands over the years and still feel like I suck balls and I'm almost 30.

I cannot imagine starting now. Use synthesia if you're trying to learn piano and rocksmith for guitar. they get shit on a lot here but i think they are good tools.

why not

I feel this. I feel like i'm coming closer to dropping out of music school cuz I'm sound recording and have to take a lot of calculus and engineering courses. Also because I failed my musicianship final because my composition "didn't have enough dynamics" so I have to retake that joke of a class

Nah, if you know theory, and become at least somewhat decent (which is possible with enough discipline and willpower) you can transfer a lot of nice ideas into a DAW or something

Maybe in early stages, play A minor (all the white keys, mess with some chords (7ths, 9ths, and 11ths and 13ths usually sound best and mesh them together in a 4-8 bar loop, in a way that sounds best to you) write/record them as MIDI, have it loop in the DAW and try playing some melodies over them

It costs but Melodics is a program that's helped me a lot, just treat it as guitar hero for MIDI keyboard

I dropped out of music (classical guitar) and studied economics and got a job with the government. obviously im dead inside, but at least i have money to buy pedals and gear. so think about it I guess, but know when i see people i went to school with, they are just lightyears ahead when it comes to theory and classical. they can all play the piano significantly better than me too. I dropped out in my second year. Would like to eventually go back one day and finish out the degree. Maybe when im a fucking old retired faggot.

the biggest thing you can do is play with others too. there is a lot to be gained with music in regards to the spillover effect

lol music notes just mean whatever apparently!

oh no no he mad

I'm thinking of just finishing the degree and then getting an emt. So I can have job that pays well enough to survive while I try to establish a carer as an audio engineer. Firefighters and EMTs get paid pretty decently in Mass which is where I live

what's your job?

"Program manager"

what do you do though

bluetooth

You'll never reach a high level of proficiency. If you're fine with that then do it. I considered it and passed. Not going to waste 20-30 hours a week just so I can become a bottom-tier instrumentalist.

Fuck theory, get bitches.

Becoming proficient at an instrument takes like 9 months of practice as long as you're not slacking off.

Have your mental pathways hardened to the point that you can no longer learn new skills?

Do you want to learn piano so that you can become a truly world-class pianist or just so that you can play well?

Youve the wrongest perspective on music for a grownup.
Just play, but play everyday and dont think about where people will categorize you.
Unless youre doing classical, then yea youre fucked in comparison to anyone.

>You'll never reach a high level of proficiency
now thats just a lie
