Here’s a scenario I have witnessed, a mixed group are talking about rap and a white guy says he really likes an album and a black guy says he didn’t think it was that good then everyone agrees with the black guy. The black guy wasn’t being mean or anything but it’s that his opinion is just automatically perceived as more valuable. I don’t get why a white person would invest themselves in a culture where this dynamic is so common. Also you’re the one who brought up sex so it sounds like you need to spend less time online.

It's not about just listening/liking rap it's about making it central to your identity. Pretty much all white youth listen to rap to some degree but there is a certain subset who make it a core part of their personality and these are the ones who I originally addressed my question to. Frankly it's masochistic to heavily invest yourself in culture that doesn't really want you there and naive white kids find this out the hard way when they aren't completely accepted in the subculture even if they're passionate about it. Rap culture is racist but it gets a pass in the mainstream because calling out black racism is unprogressive. White people trying to get into rap isn't "dissolving barriers" or whatever because they are still treated as outsiders or second class; it's just trading one set of barriers for another.
