>music is music Too bad it's not always that simple and that's a far too simplistic view. "Music is just music" works only in some rare cases.
Jeremiah Russell
I didn't mean to imply that poetry was music, they are two completely separate art forms. However music alone cannot convey ideas, you need words for that
Noah Hall
The very best of rap music, something like Nas's Illmatic would be comparable to pic related.
It's nice for what is it but it is still frozen food at the end of the day.
I personally haven't heard any jazz that reaches Scriabin's otherworldly piano soundscape, his virtuosity and spirituality, his avant-garde-like borderless relationship between life, art and philosophy that speaks out in his works; however I am looking forward to listening to this though and I am definitely looking into getting back into jazz more seriously, thanks.

>However music alone cannot convey ideas sure but it can convey more emotion, which is far more fun
Ryan Parker
There is nothing pretentious or wrong with admitting that jazz is the peak form of music in terms of both taste and aesthetics.
jazz music is a gourmet meal from a restaurant with three Michelin stars.
rap music is the equivalent of a decent fast food meal from say an In-N-Out, Chipotle or a Chick-fil-A.
classical music is frozen food, it's barely edible and is enjoyed primary by low income and low IQ people.
Joseph Adams
>However music alone cannot convey ideas It can, but only under certain (mostly cultural) circumstances. Text isn't always necessarily needed. Look into musical gestures, tropes, topics and semiotics if you're interested in that sort of thing.
Mason Diaz
this reminded me that i need to listen to more scriabin thanks aswell

I agree, I listen to romantic era composers 80% of the time, the emotion and virtuosity they put into their works blows my mind even after listening to the same song over and over. But you still can't have a political concerto

classical is the most normie friendly genre prove me wrong
it's up to you to prove why it is, since you are the one making the claim
Ian Edwards
first scriabin piece i heard actually amazing opening i always find it hard to argue with classicalposters when they pull out something incredible like scriabin, or rautavaara, or bach or something
Kendrick Lamar's GKMC is definitely the equivalent of Mi Goreng, it's cool to consume if you're say a student on a budget who can overlook the high sodium content and added MSG so it's fine if you're just looking to tame your hunger quickly, but it can never satisfy you like a good home cooked meal or even a decent fast food sandwich such as the McChicken™

I'm really glad you like it! I mean at the end of the day it isn't a competition; you like what you're used to. It's hard (and very stupid) to dismiss exceptionally sounding and well-crafted intricate works of music - and that goes for all genres obviously.

scriabin symphony no 2 in c minor op 29 is definitely the equivalent of Mi Goreng, it's cool to consume if you're say a student on a budget who can overlook the high sodium content and added MSG so it's fine if you're just looking to tame your hunger quickly, but it can never satisfy you like a good home cooked meal or even a decent fast food sandwich such as the McChicken™
