though i did like them, although i didnt think the album was too incredible, Black Midi are industry plants
no its not just labels doing "friendly promotion"
if you look at pitchfork fest 2019 you can see them on it but the lineup was announced in March before any conformation of their debut album, also they were announced to do an aftershow on June 13 a week before the album was released
I dont think that is just "friendly promotion"
Though i did like them, although i didnt think the album was too incredible, Black Midi are industry plants
team gec
fuck black shidi
They did have a bit of a following in the uk before the album
fuck off shill
This is the kind of shit they always say about industry plants. It’s like planting your tomatoes in a small pot (any country besides USA) before you transfer them to the actual garden (America)
they did their live KEXP set a year before this was released and had reached bold status on rym in a few months after it was released
i saw them live in a small concert venue in paris as part of a couple of weird noise acts from the uk like a year and a half ago.
they blew up outta nowhere, but i don't think there's a conspiracy behind them.
>Black Midi are British
>100 Gec are Trannies
Same thing, send them back and stay the fuck out of America
but that doesnt get you an aftershow at pitchfork fest
but I like the music so I don't care
as long as they don't tell a fictitious background story or pretend that their music spread organically, I don't see anything wrong with being a plant if your music is good
honestly the landscape is that fucking barren that it just might
This reaction is what's called "crippling insecurity at the thought that I don't have enough talent to have labels interested in me at a young age"
Promising bands get scouted early on in their career and booking agents, managers and labels will inevitably follow the smell of money. But just because the industry decides which band is pushed, or what kind of campaign they're going to run, that doesn't mean the artists themselves are plants.
>if you look at pitchfork fest 2019 you can see them on it but the lineup was announced in March before any conformation of their debut album
their buzz has evolved entirely out of their live sets and singles (both the KEXP performance and their live shows in general have created a shitload of buzz).
Basically, you have zero understanding of how the industry works.
Damn the Rough Trade A&R have really stepped up their game
>everyone who calls you out on your misuse of words is a shill
"Plants" have nothing do do with PR and everything to do with being born into and moulded by the industry. Billie Eilish is a plant because her family are all industry-established and her brother writes all of her songs. Black Midi are not plants because they have control over their songwriting, musical style and aesthetic. The way a label chooses to market their music is out of their control and does not make them plants
what ever you say shill
why the fuck would the industry shape a band like black midi into their current sound and aesthetic. they're and unaccessible noise rock band that, rightfully so, has a lot a hype behind them generated through their live shows.
cringe
sorry dont understand shill
Like them or don't like them, I honestly don't care. Just stop abusing the term "industry plant" to mean literally any band signed to management, it loses all functional meaning and value if you do that.
>makes a thread about Black Midi
>accuses others of being shills
congrats dork, you just gave them free publicity. How does it feel to be part of the corporate machine?
i smell shilling
fuck you
he who smelt it, dealt it
disgusting imperialist
damn
people really cant take bait on the shithole
>durr I was just pretending to be retarded!
I know what sound a bike chain makes when its being backpedalled, just so you know.
thank you for making my day
i dont care too much about this band
as a britfag i have heard of them before
they did a gig in brixton in april i think but i didnt get to go but a friend of mine did and said they were alright but nothing great
i do actually believe that how they managed to bag a spot at Pitchfork is a bit suspicious knowing outside of RYM they werent getting too much buzz
what was actually funny was you boomers getting triggered at my obvious shitposting
>sorry dont understand shill
>i smell shilling
fucking hell how thick do you have to be to not realise
anyway thanks for making my day better it was kind of shit
have a nice day
so like what did you guys actually think of the album? can someone talk about the music once in a while in black midi threads?
It's not a shitpost if you're not being ironic. What you've said here and in the OP makes it abundantly clear these are your actual retarded opinions.
>outside of RYM they werent getting too much buzz
just because you're not in on the hype doesn't mean everyone else isn't. I played a couple shows at great escape festival and they were the one band that was mentioned constantly.
>Yea Forums
>talking about music
go fuck yourself
this is not who you are
not who you want to be
>All this fucking industry plant talk from people that don't know what an industry plant is nor have a clue what a label does
Lads do you think every other artist signed to a label is getting booked for huge festivals, US/Euro tours, and getting tinydesk/KEXP sets organically? Shiggy diggy. These lads were rushed a bit but it's no different to everyone else that's gotten press.
god forbid record labels actually do their job and provide something to the artists besides distribution because distribution means nothing now. if a record label can't viral your band to success, what are they even for?
They barely had any following at all m8
if you have any article on your music you are automatically an industry plant sorry bud don't make the rules
and we should just accept this forced viralling because that's what my manager says makes the most money
>no different to everyone else that's gotten press
Yes, it's totally normal for an artist to get a free formal education in music paid for by major UK labels before even forming your band.
dude sounds like Nina Simone what the hell
