What are some Japanese rock songs worth checking out?

Anything by marty friedman.

Is Casiopea too far away from rock for your tastes?

favorite guitar-related youtube channels? want some guitar shit to watch when I'm not playing. can be educational or just some nigger shredding, don't really care as long as it's guitar

Sam Griffin Guitar makes very good arrangements of pieces.
I don't watch many guitarists on YT, but he makes arrangements that are faithful to the source material in a meticulous way that I do.

why do my fingers hurt so much when i play my guitar? i started learning about six months ago and then it started to hurt less after a while but then i stopped playing for a few weeks and now i tried playing again today and holy fuck i can feel the strings sinking deep into the flesh of my fingers, i can't even bend or vibrato. how long before it gets better again or goes away completely?

Emgtv

I have a dilemma, if someone would like to read and give advice it would help
Im 19 y/o and live in a 1st world country and im on a course that will give me a great carrer ; about 5k$ per month on first year but im not gonna make any money for the next 4 years and will have almost no personal time and be forced to travel alot.
The catch is im allready a year in school, last month i started playing guitar and fell in love, its the first thing to get me this excited every day.
If you were in my shoes would you quit the course? I really want to pursue a carreer in music but id need to throw away an eniter year i spent on a degree on 2018
Pic related is what i orderd today, to replace the knock off strat i got for 100$

Retard.

I sure am

The music industry is a government subsidized exercise in setting and following trends. Government subsidized because of laws that let one man own many things other people made, without lifting a finger, and sue other people for sharing them without paying him first. And the tastemakers, such as that one man, have decided that guitars are out.

Get a real job and play it as a hobby. You might be able to afford nice guitars in that case.

Jesus Christ, I can't even feel those. Just play guitar every day and don't put so much pressure on your hands. This gauge should play itself.

Nice abalone

Now get some EMGs

Attached: DlWPfgyU8AEhE_-.jpg (720x720, 77K)

Okay but is it not possible to make a living playing at smaller local venues ? Or making a band and getting famous through youtube or whatever and then going on tours or something

Its a schecter, faggot

>number one
You'll make slightly more than a mcdonalds employee. Construction workers will laugh at you, and you'll laugh at them because you're better at guitar, and then you'll ask them for a loan.
>Getting famous through zoomer magic
No man, the tastemakers said guitar is out. Even hypebeasts like polyphia and chon are very small acts. And there's only room for so many of them.

Music is not guaranteed money unless you're the guy who owns the rights to shit you didn't make.

No shit?

They were my favorite gook guitars until they stopped putting abalone on everything

Is it possible that my action is too high?

okay thanks for taking me seriously.
ill stay in school

That's what all of those coffee shop players did. They stayed in school, did a gig every other weekend and recorded shit through bandcamp. It's not a bad idea, because you can still enjoy music and be rewarded for it, but you're not gambling your financial security on what is more or less the audible form of the fashion industry.

but it says custom TWICE bro that's double the customization bro cmon

exactly what the fuck makes this better than the $2000 gibsons?

>$140/month
and yet even poorfags could do it

the fact that you're even considering doing something that stupid indicates it doesn't matter what you do because you're doomed either way

is it wrong to dream?

Attached: BeanBoy.jpg (213x237, 9K)

8s should play themselves, I don't know how string height would play a remarkable role here. I played 9s once in a store and could already barely feel them.Do you have skin problems? Maybe you're allergic to some material in the strings or frets.

Not rock, but patrician Jazz-Fusion. Good taste user.

>stain twice

It's finished by lighting it on fire and then sanding. Can't be done in a paint booth.

Do the course and keep playing the guitar every day in your spare time. Reevaluate once you complete the course if you've suddenly become a guitar god

about something as retarded as thinking you have a chance at making it as the lead sax player for a big jazz band?

sax is still a legitimate, respected instrument. people still make great music with the saxophone. lots of people play the saxophone. saxophone is still cool. sometimes it makes cameos in pop music. but it's not profitable any more. it's out of style in the world of paying other people to make music so you can sell it and give them peanuts while you pocket coconuts.

There’s always been plenty of copies though.

Loudness Crazy nights

Fender only sues if you're thorough and copy everything including the headstock and general appearance and placement of the logo, ie: actually make a fake ala chibson.

Attached: Clapton Les Paul.jpg (669x535, 191K)

Ok pretty dumb questions incoming. I'm kinda new to guitar and don't know a lot about theory.
Why in the Asus2 diagram are you not supposed to hit the 6th string open? There's an E in that chord!
Is it because you want to have the root on the lowest string you're strumming?
If this was the case for all the chords I never noticed.
I also noticed Esus4 and Asus2 are the exact same notes E A and B. Didn't think that could happen. Is there like a thoery reason for that?

Attached: 12309182039812390812'.png (600x180, 94K)

who dat?

Eric Clapton

Thanks, I definitely need more ear training. Since I joined this band our pianist made all of us play with chords in front of our face because "the harmony is not that intuitive and everyone MUST play the same thing".

Oh hes alright I guess I prefer Duane Allman love me some rednecks. (also jk i knew who dat was. bazinga)

it just doesn't sound nice, that's about it. The high E is the octave to the E on the 2nd fret of the E string, so yeah.

Not that guy but to me that makes no sense. You said it yourself. Low e is an octave to both the d string middle e and high string e.
You're telling me triple octaves somehow sound bad? Idk.

I usually play all the basic chords by strumming everything.

Your career will afford you a lot of nice gear.

Nigger, you do realize the guitars they are "copying" are damn near impossible to find and even if you do, the prices are through the roof.

whoops, meant to reply to

A fourth apart on the low strings usually sounds muddy and gross. Piano players usually do the same thing, keep the closer intervals on the right hand and the left is playing at least a fifth

Also it was already said, the chords share the same notes so you can't really invert it. With an E on bottom it'll sound like muddy ass plus now functions as an Esus4 instead

Do pianists in general have a superiority complex over any other band instrument?

Their prices are through the roof too.

i don't see why they would considering piano is baby's first instrument and the baseline for learning music in general

Eric Haugen, Guitologist, Tim Pierce

Siccas Guitars, Guitar Salon International.

Not a good channel to watch for your wallet though.

Many chords share notes, but have completely different functions. A fully diminished chord is just four consecutive minor thirds for example. So Cdim7 has the same notes as Ebdim7, Gbdim7, and Bbdim7. The only difference is the root.

For any chord in a lead sheet, you should probably play the chord with the root. If you are accompanying a bass instrument, you might want to play only the higher notes of the chord. If they wanted you to play the E, they would have written a slash chord.

fuck that should be Bdim7

sexy

I know this is dumb but I have fallen behind in my practicing. I fucking suck now. I need some new songs to play. Does anyone know any decently easy song suggestions? I mainly play post-punk, some metal, new wave, and a little bit of jangle-pop. Any help would be appreciated.

Transmission by Joy Division

WHY THE HELL DO PEOPLE CALL IT "COMPOSING" TO PUT TOGETHER THE VERY SAME CHORDS AND PROGRESSIONS
>I IV iv I V (THAT FUCKIN IV iv !!!)
>I V III VI II V
>If it's rock, vii IV I

Because you're playing the chord in what's called the root position which means that the bass note (lowest frequency note in the chord) is the root note of the chord (here the A in Asus2).

If you played the E as the bass note you'd, technically, have an inverted Asus2 chord. The guy who replied to you saying it just sounds bad doesn't know what he's on about.

>I also noticed Esus4 and Asus2 are the exact same notes E A and B. Didn't think that could happen. Is there like a thoery reason for that?

There is a theory reason for that. In music theory context is very much the basis for notation and naming. For example we don't tend to use duplicate note names if it can be helped. As you've already noted Asus2 and Esus4 have the exact same notes. This is because Asus2 is an inversion of Esus4 and vice versa. So the theory reason is exactly that: Every suspended 4th chord has an inversion which is a suspended 2nd chord, and vice versa. But I'm sure you can see how, in naming chords for practical purposes, it would be more confusing to call Esus4 chord Asus2 second inversion.

Recommend me good basses for under $1,000.

Right now I've got a cheap Ibanez Soundgear and a Squier Matt Freeman P-Bass. I like the looks of Rickenbacker 4001, Aria Pro II, those Gibson SG basses, and P-Basses (off-white and black are the colors I prefer most btw). I mostly play rock and metal.

Wait wait, the Esus4 guitar chord consists of E C# and A, the B also gets suspended into the C#. And Asus2 is A E B D, bc the C# gets suspended to D

Satori by the Flower Travelling Band

What are you on about?
Let me illustrate why you're wrong here. Triads are made by stacking thirds from ontop of eachother. So from the tonic of a scale (root) where the tonic note is 1 you get 1-3-5. Minor and major scales with the same tonic note will share 2nds, 4th and 5ths. This is is why suspended chords are neither minor nor major. This might not be at all relevant to what you're saying but since what you're saying confuses me so I feel like it might be useful for you.

So.
A major scale: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.
A minor scale: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G
E major scale: E, F, G, A, B, C, and D
E minor scale: E, F, G, A, B, C, and D

As you can see if we were to create suspended 2nd and 4th chords it wouldn't matter which scale we used. The formula will always be 1-2-5 or 1-4-5 and they would yield the same notes.

Esus4: E A B
Asus2: A B E

I'm sorry I could address exactly what you're trying to say but that's because I really don't know what you're trying to say.

E minor scale: E, F, G, A, B, C, and D

yeah costo can cause sharp pain above your heart that feels similar to a heart attack. it's just inflammation of the cartilage that connects your ribs and your sternum. it isn't directly from smoking but the coughing itself. i had a coughing fit so bad that i started coughing up blood a year ago and my chest has been sore and tender ever since. my sternum also cracks/pops anytime I have to flex my pectoral muscles, like from working out or pushing something and it makes my chest throb for a while afterwards. also i get random sharp pains above my heart whenever it flares up, and i can't take a full breath despite not being fat and regularly working out. sucks, i used to smoke to cope with my anxiety but it just fucks my chest up these days so i have to choose between anxiety attacks or feeling like I'm having a heart attack for the rest of the day. anyways don't forget to like and subscribe if you liked this blogpost also guitars

No.

youre lying about your real opinion

i dont know if its out of tune but it kinda sounds bad. and honestly i dont like your singing
but you can work on those notes make the last one on the first bar a bit lower note i think itll sound better

how do I know if I should adjust my truss rod or not

what note

the one that sounds too high too me.
i dont know

if you think it's poorly set up.

I'm sure there's a more logical way to get to that point

what word is it

if it's playing well and sounding well why would you want to mess with the setup

i dunno theres a certain note that i feel is higher then it should be,its the highest note on the first bar, i think.

meant to reply to

as long as you don't have fret buzz and are comfortable it doesn't need adjusting. some people actually prefer a high action. those people smoke crack

Why are you insane?

Fellas,

So I came to the realization that my guitar teacher was useless and that our practice sessions were more jam sessions than actually practicing and learning skills.

I came up with my own routine to get me going now ... what do you think?

how did you figure that people with shorter neck scales use thicker gauges?

kek

Im going to an hour a day minimum. What i need to do is start waking up earlier in the morning and doing the extra work then. Put another 20min every morning ... of scales and alternate picking and shit

I know it's a meme around here, but do anons have any tips in getting the F chord right? I know I have to develop a callous for that

i cant take it any more i want to kms

listen to polyphia, it'll convince you to go through with it

Livestream it and be useful for once

my friend owns a jaguar and puts 11s on it though he normally uses 9s and 10s
he did the same with the SG he bought too

Buy a charvel bro

shorter scales less tension flabbier strings

Because higher gauges usually means higher tension. 10s are already super floppy on 25.5 and additionaly jaguar bridges can easily let go of loose strings

i have 10s on my les paul and 9s on my tele and still the tele is stiffer

is this a decent novice routine or not...?

Guys I have a really retarded question. I have a humbucker pick ups but when I turn up the volume of my interface all the way up I hear noise. Is it supposed to do that?

god damn its much easier to play on the 9s

is your amp really loud and you are standing close to it??

I don't know
I feel like I learned way more practicing improv than practicing mechanical exercises
they're still important and you should know how to travel through scales and modes up and down the neck. If you grind it out for a few weeks you'll get it much quicker than you think, but you can't really utilize that knowledge if you don't make the connection to playing them with a song
improv is great because you can utilize all that shit while reinforcing your inner ear and actively feeling the relationships to the tonic you are playing against so it steadily becomes easier to pick up on
then when you're playing stuff by other people, their tricks become obvious

I'm using an audio interface and I have everything at the loudest including my guitar.

use a noisegate on your PC or whatever you are playing through. I use amplitube with an interface and i get zero noise

Go for the rickenbacker if you can get one, those things are way better than any of the other basses you have on there. But they are a bit more expensive than a P bass. I recommend a J bass if you can get a rickenbacker though

That's doesn't fix the problem just hides it. Is there something wrong with my guitar? I bought this humbucker guitar for it to be noiseless and I'm just wondering if the problem is because I'm playing at the loudest settings possible and the humbuckers only cancel so much noise.

>Power chord transitioning
Literally why

Your time would be better spent experimenting with new chord shapes

what kind of guitar is it? any shielding in the pickup cavity? pickups might be shit

>it just hides it
yeah that is the purpose of it. if you are gonna play high gain with humbuckers you are gonna get noise. No way around it except to hide it like you say.

>I have everything at the loudest
Hey, I think I may have located the problem.

I got a 2016 model fender strat hsh which has coil tapping.
I was just wondering if it's supposed to do that. Even when I put it in regular volume I can still hear faint noise and I'm playing in the cleanest settings. I might take it to a guitar tech.

post a recording if you can but it's probably normal

I only hear it faintly when I put everything in regular volume and thats only if I'm trying to hear the noise. But the thing that confuses me is that I thought that noise only happened when I played with high gain and I'm only recording a clean guitar on max loudness however.

nothing is wrong with it. quit being a faggot already.

Attached: lel01.jpg (204x121, 17K)

if you are talking about crackingling through your PC then its your computer. try the guitar through a real amp and see the difference in noise.

heh

Dude, literally all guitars with passive pickups have a noticeable noise floor. Same thing with tube amps - they make noise. Even with the cleanest power and the most grounding and shielding possible there's going to be a bit of noise.

Get active pickups, use a noise gate, or deal with it.

These threads are dead now that I reported and got the kakaposter banned.
Anyway, should I buy an Orville by Gibson? MIJ Gibson mmmm

>Even when I put it in regular volume I can still hear faint noise and I'm playing in the cleanest settings
Sounds like you have a shitty interface with shitty preamps, because that definitely shouldn't be the case

it's just an epiphone

being made in japan doesn't make it good. just look at normal gibsons: they're made in america and they suck.

/gg/ is in it's die phase

Random question, but does anyone here know if G&L still makes the Tribute Series Superhawk in Ivory? I've emailed them twice about it and never heard anything back.

It was never alive

I have 11s on my tele, as it should be, and I can still bend a whole step plus extra on G B and e. 9s made the bridge too quiet it seems, but it was also setup poorly from the factory.

I've said this before, but I've never really meant it until now, but go back to r/guitars or wherever you came from.

Namefag drama like that bullshit up there doesn't belong on an anonymous website

Hell yeah take my upvote!

Tell that to the attention whores and their fanclub, not me.

Friendly reminder: the report button works and from now on I'm going to make it a priority to press it every time you fucktards decide to post off topic garbage

Is playing at 200bpm impressive?

depends

newfags don't remember old Yea Forums when mods would actually post every now and then, ban messages were personalized, and you didn't have to be reported for a mod to personally ban you from a board for shitposting, insulting their waifu, talking shit about yotsuba, etc

and that was back when you couldn't read the site when you were banned. yeah, that's right. back in my day being banned meant something, and phoneposting didn't exist. only poorfags with dialup and DSL could ban evade without using at least 7 proxies.

Yea Forums meant something back then. there was no quick reply, only noko, you could see sages, and you didn't have to help google develop skynet just to post without giving the mootles III $20 for a Yea Forums gold account.

This. Yea Forums is not a place to learn an instrument. Every question ever asked in these threads could be answered in 30 seconds of using the internet. Music critique is better done in other threads. Actual discussion of guitar is better on literally any actual guitar website like sevenstring. And now we have people like so even humorous shitposting wont happen. Most people giving advice or talking shit legitimately cannot play worth a damn and have no reason to be doing either. I started posting the community pieces because I thought it might actually get people to post playing and talk about what this general is supposed to be about, but everyone is either too shit or too scared of criticism to post their playing so it's pointless. Theres no good reason for this general to exist and the people in it suck.

We can still save it. This is now /gwg/ - guitar waifu general.

For me, it's Yui.

OR WE’LL SUE YOU

the normie way of doing it if you aren't naturally talented

I want to get a small, portable amp for playing when I travel. About 5-6 months of the year I'm away from home. I had taken my acoustic guitar on my first trip and I loved it but I'm playing more electric lately.

So far I'm looking at a Yamaha THR10 at the moment. I'd prefer a modeling amp, but the most important thing for me is clean tone with nice reverb. I don't really play with gain or any crunch really at the moment. Maybe down the road. Any other options to look at other than the THR10??

If you're looking for a good portable amp with a clean tone, go for an orange amp or maybe vox.

The combo amps? Gotta admit I'm a fan of a Fender '65 Twin Reverb sound or something close to it.

Get a fender mini amap

youtube.com/watch?v=tToZyZy9oCs

Wew... even mic'd that sounds bad. I don't mind spending a bit more money to have something that it's horrible.

>he doesn't dig that bedroom rockstar tone

youtube.com/watch?v=Q5J88ZXcktQ

if you mean big kaka, yeah.

I want a black or cherry explorer but gibson is only making the wood ones atm. Is reverb the best option? I don't really wanna buy one sight unseen.

thankfully you can buy an explorer without buying from gibson, since it's not like they own a 50 year old guitar shape

Will walking my brand new guitar home in 90 degree weather damage it? It’s probably a 45 minute walk or so

Anyway to learn to pick with more speed and accuracy?

Student gauges? Where did you get that from? It's about preference, and beyond that scale length and tuning.

When was the last time you changed your strings?

I can't stand EMG for guitar pickups, but damn do I enjoy the bass pickups the make especially the Geezer Butler set

Find a solid mexi P-Bass and upgrade the pickups and bridge and you can definitely stay under $1000 with a solid bass. Even better a P-Bass Special, so you get that tasty jazz pickup in the bridge position.

Jesus that's opposite ends of the spectrum, but the Ibanez for sure. Especially if you plan on playing sitting down at all.

Check out the blackstar stereo id:core series, I bought the 10 watt for a simple practice when I can't fire up the stack and the 2x5" speaker setup in the id:core makes for great stereo reverb and delay sounds.

Reminder: Gibson SG is the ultimate form of guitar. It is the most ergonomic, affordable to produce at quality level, esthetic, and versatile instrument ever created.

Anything else is snake oil or a compromise.

guys, there's always been a stinky load of kaka that comes out of my kakabutt, but now I'm hearing that you can fart stinky and assy shartloads of poop and rub it all over my stratocaster? What guitarists are the ones over the years that have been known for their stinky kaka?

Seriosuly? A Fender twin is designed to be loud enough for MSG and you think he’d want to carry it around to play in his apartment.

Obviously blues Jr or Princeton is the answer here.

Lastly a helix and headphones is only 20 lbs and has a back pack and all the amps you could want in it.

Good choice, Sweetwater sells a bunch of used gear and they ‘set up’ all of them and have a good return policy. I’d call them and tell the guy you want a used cherry explorer and have him call you when it’s in.

Are humbuckers mandatory if I want the Santana tone? Or should I fall for the tubes meme? I want that clean violin-like sustain.

Explorer ez.

Could probably do it with p90s. Single coils won't be fat enough.

play guitar, there's nothing to be proud of for being a wagecuck

no tone position 4 + fuzz

Clapton used to be called Crapton on account of the farty stink that eminated from his kakabutt.

You’ll need a PRS for that! Santana uses cocobolo tone wood

Sweetwater is the best musical outlet on the internet, fucking hell their customer service is badass. I am never buying anything from anywhere else unless it's at a ridiculously lower price I love those dudes

I watched that video and I can't deny it sounded good. The guy seems like a spastic though. Completely terrible interview partner.

They fuck up sometines but youre right the customer service will take care of it.

How many times a week?
I think every day practice is best practice.

Are Cherry Gibson SGs s_y?

Attached: file.png (1280x720, 690K)

I think im going to buy a joyo firebrand to compliment my joyo Zombie

Attached: 20190308_145515.jpg (4160x3120, 3.31M)

Modern ones yes. Vintage style is ok.

Is there any other color? This boring shit alongside that les paul burst is pretty much the only finish gibson does. Also SG junior or go home.

I just read in a Guitar World magazine that the new big thing is squenching a farty log of assbutter out of my stinkhole and mashing it into the guitar. How does this work? I don't get it and I really would rather not waste a stinklog made from my shartplop.

No, strats are

Has anyone ever painted their guitars successfully? I have a godin telecaster which is a great instrument but looks like shit, could use a new coat of paint.

No other color of SG even comes close to the aesthetic of a white one

Whats the best amp for home use? Preferably tube, although that's obviously difficult. Right now i'm running my tube amp pretty much clean with overdrive from pedals, but i would like a more pushed sound at a lower volume.
Are all sub 5w combos shit?

I don't know if you would call it painting, but I once crapped a soupy assload of kaka onto my guitar. It sure was poopy..

Yes. Make sure you prep it right. Have you identified the method and finish you wanted to use. Pic rel was done with home depot supplies. Its technically not finished though.

Attached: 20190609_190546.jpg (4160x3120, 3.34M)

Look into joyo bantamp line. Its perfect for bedroom players and has nifty bluetooth connevtivity so you can play music through it.or backing tracks from your phone.. I use my joyo zombie to play sound from my p.c

Yeah, PRS is a legendary unchill and not very nice person. Don't think i've ever seen a good interview with him.

if i set my tube amp to 2w mode, the cleans are kinda quiet and shitty, but it gets plenty loud with distortion.

depends more on speaker size desu

Obviously Fender Off sets are the definitive soi guitar

Only a gibson is s*y enough

AC/DC guitar is the opposite of soi

>born in le wrong generation!

The 85/81 set is ass and EMG humbuckers with names not ending in X should’t be sold in most cases

Retard.

>he likes compressed, sterile sounding pickups
>but dood, METAL! high output! gain! slayer used them! SLAYER!

Some things should have stayed in the 80s

LOL @ all these PRS and Fender s*yfags calling Gibson s*y

Attached: John5lespaul.png (522x654, 830K)

Why are you doubling down as retarded? You probably think strats sound sterile and plasticky. Tell that to jeff beck. Just because your skill level doesnt allow you to fully enjoy and use your product doesnt mean it sucks. Maybe you suck. Fucking dumbfuck. I bet youve never used light overdive and played slow blues on an 81 85 set. It sounds great.

True boomers use fender. Gibson is for boomer larpers.

Attached: z14oa5kbqi6pizv2zwqg.jpg (538x618, 93K)

Strats don't sound sterile and plasticky at all. But the 81/85 only sound even half good in a full mix with full distortion. Even staying within the same company there are a lot of better sounding pickups for solo guitar and less dragonforcey tones.
