Nobody lives in vacuum. Of course you take inspiration and ideas from others. Why everybody cares when rock musicians do this is beyond me. Every other field of music gets a free pass on that but comments on EVERY rock album are: Ooooh, but it sounds like [some band from 70's-90's] so it's just a rehash. Rock is dead.
Rock was dominating genre for at least 30 years. That's fucking huge amount of (well known) music. Of course it is going to sound similar to something you already know.

There is blatant plagiarism like Gret van Fleet and that I can understand people hate. I still feel like they shouldn't hate on them just for being excat copy of Led Zeppelin but I get it.
And than there are other bands like Black Midi or Protomartyr who use musical ideas from older bands and create their own expression. Nothing wrong with that. Yes you can hear similarities but that doesn't mean it's bad music. As I said before every other genre gets a free pass but people pretend like you have to make 100% original stuff in rock.

It honestly disgusts me that people are calling this shit "rock" music. This is a fucking disgrace, and really highlights how far rock as a genre has fallen. REAL Rock Music is AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Guns and Roses, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith and INXS. This isn't rock, This is shit.

It takes hours to compose Black Midi music and incredible hardware to even attempt playing it. Another thing that really grinds my gears about this fucking god awful fucking band is that they used a mobile phone to play a sample through an electric guitar pickup, and this dude sits on his ass on his phone while the drummer does all the hard work. Fucking Millenials always on their fucking phones, even during a live performance.

In closing, I'd honestly rather listen to 21 pilots while watching the live-action Garfield movie because this is just fucking awful.

what a moron. It invites prospective students on the basis of creative talent alone, there are no school fees. I got in but chose not to go because literally all my teachers told me that I'd never get a "real" job with only 6 shitty GCSEs and that I was competent enough to work on my music outside of school. Also the idea that the label paying for all the extra-musical shit (promotion, studio time etc) makes someone a plant just shows how totally ignorant you are of the industry. Summer has definitely arrived!

it sounds like something i would have loved a few years back, when i was just discovering music and things like "emergency & i". nowadays, through intense exploration, my tastes have become kind of fucked. i guess im not really into indie rock anymore, most of it sounds super bland. i like the vocals though.

By that I mean it's nonsensical dissonant noisy bullshit, that doesn't even have the artistic merit of something like Zappa or Beefheart that was made semi-ironically to troll the music industry. Maybe your highly refined palette can taste the difference between two different types of shit, but just like Slint it makes me genuinely physically uncomfortable to listen to this album. I can't stand to listen for long enough to pick out how they accomplish being grating and terrible in slightly different ways.

Would you like me to go down to the local construction site and record an ambient album for you? Because that's what this type of music is. You're like a junky chasing a high, you're so desperate for something you've never heard before that you don't even care if it has an merit. You're like an artist who can look at a beautifully and intricately painted landscape and feel nothing, but be moved to tears by some abstract paint splashes on a wall. When this type of music was made with the intent to be avant garde and experimental that was one thing.
