How do I write lyrics references to things in an interesting, poetic, and I guess “unclear” way? Like the Anne Frank references in ITAOTS, or all the Biblical references in Bob Dylan’s John Wesley Harding album. Whenever I try to write references to real events, I end up just sounding like I’m writing an essay on it.

Step 1: invent a time machine
What the actual fuck
Yep, the mad lad actually went and did it
Depends really. In Bob Dylan's case he was extremely religious so his knowledge of the bible and biblical themes was pretty deep. Jeff Mangum read the diary of Anne Frank which contains pretty much all there is to know about her. In Bob Dylan's case, he was a very literate and poetic writer so his ability to allude in a literary sense is more refined and technical. As for Mangum, he was a psychedelic hippie who listened to weird music with weird abstract lyrics. HIs ability to allude to Anne Frank was more sparse and indirect however as opposed to Dylan's biblical references. So ultimately you should just become intimately knowledgeable in whatever you're trying to reference and learn the art of subtlety.
Thanks
i'm feeling anxious now can someone convince me this isn't real

Yearly reminder that Anne Frank would be alive if the Confederates had won the war
I saw someone say that less than a year ago
keep it simple. less is more
and keep a thesaurus (or google,,,) on hand
Just practice writing poetry and being really vague
A flower falls, a tree is born
A red rose gains it's only thorn
And I am torn
Between imagination and porn
Say random nonsensical, atmospheric shit and say it's "open to interpretation"
Write about the emotion and reaction behind the events rather than the facts themselves

Did a potato type this?
Thank you guys
Subtlety is key. If you find yourself stating something– course correct and suggest it instead.
Listen to more Bob Dylan and look up what he’s talking about
Gonna have to agree with this guy those posts are reddit as fuck
