Actually that's Burial.
You see, when Untrue debuted in Britain in November 2007, the EDM subgenre of electronica — in which thumbling rhythms meet soulful grooves — was already well-known to the British music press. Autechre, which kicked off another hugely influential EDM subgenre, had been around since 1993, and one of the genre’s most popular artists, Daft Punk, had released a live album earlier that year. Burial could have slotted right next to Autechre and Daft Punk as more of the same: a hedonistic foray full of fun moments and ever-intensifying beats, but little else.
But then Burial deconstructed the entire genre of dance music, and in a sense all electronic music, in that his music was only nominally about shaking your butt; at its core, his creations were a deeply philosophical exploration of humanity and what being “human” even is. Burial's music deals with past memories; experiences sexual awakenings; explores death, rebirth, and eternity; and struggles to find personal meaning in a time of crumbling capitalism.
Not only is his music hugely existential, it is also extremely hauntologic, full of references to underground club lingo and styled as a nostalgic retelling of 2000s RnB music. Most significantly, the artist spoke openly and frequently about having a mental and artistic breakdown while working on Untrue, and funneling all that anxiety into his musicianship. His whole creative process is a metaphor for uneasy artistic creation, for depression, and for life itself.
Burial wasn’t the first musician to marry fun dance beats with deeper psychological symbolism and an overarching metaphysical tone. But he was the first artist to combine those elements so successfully, and to such high critical and popular acclaim. And, crucially, this type of project had very rarely been issued on wax before.
Prior to Burial, electronic music albums tended to be extremely bloated, be made out of tracks that were previously released on single or EP, and have a much broader, more mainstream appeal. Untrue, by contrast, is a wholly original album conceived as a limited series of only 13 tracks, and far from trying to attract a wide audience, toward the end, it even seemed to be attempting to alienate what niche listeners it had. (It was through Burial that Hyperdub ultimately gained a reputation for cutting edge experimentation.)
But Untrue's deliberate subversion of EDM conventions and audience expectations was what made Burial so popular. In Britain, Burial spawned countless music tropes, and moreover provided a template for integrating stylish genre tropes with serious themes, high artistic aspirations, and deep extra-musical narrative. Burial also opened the floodgates for original EDM albums, as well as other artists that deconstructed their own genres, DJs aimed exclusively at philosophic thinkers, and producers that were just plain weird. Other influential EDM acts like Sophie and Oneohtrix Point Never feel directly influenced by Burial, while many others, like Machine Girl, feel like evolutionary steps forward in the sandbox that Burial built for creators to play in.
The one I liked best is Anna Burch, bubbly and serene, pretty cool, thanks user!

Nah, Madoka Magica is the Radiohead of anime. Nobody praises Eva for being a 'different mecha series', especially considering Gundam is so well known even in the west. Eva is praised for its characters, directing (which was indeed revolutionary) and its densely layered themes (Ideon barely scratched the surface of the human condition) and so on.
I recommend Moonriders, legendary rock band from the 70s onwards. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (character designer in Evangelion) loves them, and even did an album cover for them.
Another legendary band, Kinniku Shoujo Tai. One of their songs actually inspired Rei Ayanami's character.
Are you looking for specifically Japanese music or just acclaimed music in general?
Listen to Boris - Amplifier Worship
thank me later
idk about madoka being the radiohead, as i'd say that's more cowboy bebop. but eva is maybe the scott walker discography of anime. starts more or less normal, with hints of deep brilliance, but as it goes becomes headier and less accessible. idk, these comparisons are ridiculous.
Radiohead bruh.
>Nobody praises Eva for being a 'different mecha series'
Clickbait journos do now that it's on Netflix.
Lol, most if those too out there for me. Still, thanks for sharing them!
That is fucking awesome! Never knew that, thanks user!
Honestly, mostly acclaimed music in general

What genre is it though?
