Then as the internet took over, they slowly became the same. Now they're all lo-fi indie pop and soundcloud rap. All the underground clubs died because everything got centralized around the famous clubs that showed up on the internet.

Where do you live where this is the case? It makes no sense. Also, even if it were true, that's just anecdotal evidence. The internet means that you don't need to be tied to one local scene and because of that the barrier of entry for interesting music is lower than ever so there's far more good stuff coming out constantly. The local music scene in my city is thriving.
