doctor user said gibson was right to sue dean, lawyer user said no, spiraled from there, annoying arguments devoid of keks continue to this day
Jonathan Wood
2 days ago a man said it was unethical of dean to copy the V and explorer and the Gibson suit was appropriate.
A ‘corporate lawyer’ disagreed and said lawyers were noble.
The original guy responded by showing data stating lawyers were viewed as scummy as car salesmen and showing that he was a physician who was at the top of the survey in love by three popularin.

What's your guys' opinion on a good guitar to get a nice jangly Rickenbacker type sound? Should I buy a Rick knockoff from AliExpress or is there a better guitar to get that type of 60's pop sound with?
I'm doctor user, and I'm also the one asking about this doctor vs. lawyer drama. That was nothing to do with me.

It isn't just here to stay, it's part the evolution of guitar into a true solo/lead instrument that better fits into the styles of western music
Basically the chapman stick was way ahead of its time and standard guitar is a spanish instrument shoehorned into our own culture and so was destined to be changed eventually.
Fingers offer more versatility and with skill, just as much speed. I mean you have six, usually seven these days, strings to chose from and you just want to go back and forth really fast over one huh?
Camden Turner
Google.com
Joshua Rodriguez
It will always be around as it has been around for decades now. But essentially it serves little purpose as all you are doing is extending the range of notes you can hammer or pull off and it adds very little musically as this note range can be done by a child on other instruments such as a piano and only serves the guitar as a lead and cuts the potential of other voices and harmony as you are taking up octaves doing something nobody really cares about and is somewhat difficult as a technique but if you write it on paper the music is simple and amateur.
Ryan Perez
>I've posted so many questions and topics that don't get answered
Hudson Thomas
That's where sweeping comes in, you can go across the fretboard with breath taking speed. I actually heard Ibanez is going to be releasing a line of 8 string guitars next year. Who needs that many notes if you're already smart and have 24 frets?
Xavier Kelly
electric guitar is the violin of plucked string instruments
violin, too, has jack shit for range compared to a piano or a full orchestra (ye olde DAW) but it has value for its expressiveness. only guitar has more range and polyphony in exchange for being slightly out of tune (until intonated frets become mainstream with high end instruments - god knows they'd cost the same if they'd drop the premium body wood meme as if it does anything).
Samuel Brown
> only serves the guitar as a lead and cuts the potential of other voices and harmony
Guitar is portable Guitar has more dynamics You can have more than one guitar playing in a song Extended range guitars can switch roles in a song, allowing more compositional freedom
Instead of whining go write for 8 string ibanez quartets
Ayden Parker
Both offer different possibilities and sounds. You simply can't play as fast as alternative or economic picking with fingers, you can just string skip faster in terms of speed. You also can't get the same attack or velocities between the two. Finger picking also can't be muted the same as you can with a pick.
David Howard
an extra low string only adds like five notes, like each extra fret only adds one. it's not as extreme as it looks.
it's more about chord voicings - it being physically able to play certain combinations of notes simultaneously - and dynamics like slides
guitar demands creativity. you can't be a pianofag and larp as talented by hitting a bunch of octaves and doing a chromatic run followed by another dramatic octave. >look at all my range >wow ur the reincarnation of mozart
Hudson Hall
Thank you. A friend just told me there is a Luthier not far away from my home. I feel quite calm now. Have a Goth
What are you on about? Not sure why you are trying to say I am whining? Also not sure what you are on about with you Ibanez 8 string nonsense. I'll make it simple for you. If one voice is rapidly running over a wide range of notes, it takes up more space in the composition as a leading voice, and you either have to push the other voices farther away, or lose their impact. If you have a regular tuned guitar playing a D triad at the 12th fret of the neck and another voice is running close to or into that range at the same time it most likely ruins the value of both voices unless they are meeting and playing very similar things, which again, serves little purpose.
Xavier Bailey
Given the choice between a brand new Les Paul Standard or a Paul Reed Smith McCarty Singlecut, which would you get and why?
That's a cosplayer: she's Death from Gaiman's Sandman series.
Dylan Young
I don't know how but you're somehow so far behind the curve you have yet to solve problems that were figured out in the 1600s.
As a culture we have been arranging music for multiple instruments with as much, or more range than a guitar each without issue for hundreds of years, all of them able to be played faster than a metalhead can sweep pick, and now a guitar with 8 strings and 24 frets is a problem. Agh, the voices clash too often!
The whole point of having so much range is so the voices don't have to clash. You don't have to add another instrument to avoid having the voices clash. You just play different notes. Goddamn.
Grayson Howard

The tuning possibilities are the biggest factor. Just having 6 strings but making it Drop C creates a whole different sound, especially when you base things around that open C as many players do. The tunings also change the tone across the whole fretboard. Adding more strings also allows the bass to go lower as well, and the tuning really changes the whole sound of the band as the singer sounds different and can have a different range with what he is accompanied with, but many modern bands actually use high range vocals which makes the vocals sound even higher when with the music, whereas decades ago guitars tuned down to let the singer sing in a lower register. Also more strings allows deep notes without down tuning if wanted, so you can still play some chords which become difficult in drop.
Austin Watson
PRS. They make the best guitars for the money at every single price point
pls help me with the chords, i love that bass line
Zachary Sullivan
>user in the 17th century >these violinists playing chords, oh my god, what the fuck is wrong with them. they're going to clash with everyone else. what a pointless technique. and if you look at the sheet music, oh wow, three notes at once. how childish and amateur. just play normally, it's easier to compose for. >just write music so they don't? >HAAAAAH?
Christian Stewart
Dude what are you talking about, the post was about two hand tapping as a technique and what purpose it serves, not 8 string guitars or fret counts. You either got confused or are just looking for an argument.
Michael Young
Yeah but is it a tele deluxe?

Oh you were being serious? I'd get the LP. I own the new studio model and I love it. It also has a thin neck which is good for me because I also play a Strat. I think of the new standards, the 60s has a thinner neck than the 50s. Depends what you're looking for I guess.

After years of guitar companies aping body styles and several failed lawsuits gibson is at it again because they need money
For the record their peer, fender, will only sue if you copy the whole guitar down to the headstock and logo style such that your instrument may be reasonably mistaken for one of theirs.

Heard it sounds "classic like" as the pickups are underwound. Plus its something you usually don't see often, everyone and their mother have a Les Paul nowadays. And to top all that, the one you saw on pic is like 450U$, and all reviews i saw say the quality is flawless. A solid platform for modding if ever needed. Pic related is the more expensive brother of that one.
they're so mad because people can make a vaguely similar looking guitar that's better than theirs at a lower price. being exposed as a bad guitar builder must hurt.
fender is more secure because clones approach and equal their genuine articles, but they're never better for less. for example, why would you sue ESP over the snapper when the american strat is just as good and actually costs less?
Wyatt Mitchell
To be honest Dean is not modifying their v and explorer models as other guitar companies
just look at this Fender v it is actually very diferent,.not a gibson fan but dean need to pay up.
>calling it screen calling Get cancer and die faggot
Hunter Hill
Schecter, ESP, and LTD are getting away with it just fine and are probably copying dean at this point. But Gibson doesn't care, they can just say "asians are subhumans, they can't make good guitars like the master race, i mean, CHEAP LABOR"
Dean is a threat to them. Dean has domestic production, and their V shaped guitars are better and cost less. It means Gibson has direct competition. Instead of innovating (which gibson can't) or putting out higher quality stuff that's worth the price (which gibson can't) they're suing. Lawsuits are a sign of weakness.
Nicholas Lee
Nice try doctor faggot, Gibson is done. They'll get raped in court and have to pay the court costs for dean since they sued in texas. You're a nigger
Camden Anderson
How is she so cute And how does she play a tele with those small ass hamster hands
Parker King
gibson has tried and failed at this kind of lawsuit multiple times now
the premise is ridiculous. if they're so scared about someone making a guitar in a shape that's existed since ancient greece maybe they should make a good guitar. fender doesn't have a problem with ibanez making blatant strats with different headstocks.
Carson Anderson
Lmfao. Are you high?
Hudson Anderson
You both are talking like there was some kind of general approach to the question. There isn't. Even if chorales have been around for centuries, the composer doesn't get many choices as to where to set a melodic outline. For the ear it's very simple: it's the highest pitch at any given moment, end of story. Two hand tapping with the proper accentuation and voice leading can generate a conterpunctual situation where the melody might appear to move into the inner voices, but you're still not going to have more than four simultaneous voices because of the range of the guitar. Just filling in the gaps won't do the trick, that only works for chord voicing. Expanding the range is not the answer either, because it becomes inaudible. user's right in a way when he implies everything to know about the subject has already been worked out. Yet there's a lot more to it in the practical realm, and it's like that for every poliphonic instrument.

Yeah here’s a hot take from a dentist. 1. Lawyers are subhuman Jews 2. Physicians are usually cocky and arrogant 3. Dentists are based and red pilled
Dean obviously is copying SG, Explorer, V, and Les Paul blatantly. They also blatantly copy the strat and tele, and even the weird PRS design with the Icon.
If PRS can come up with their own designs and make it big why can’t Dean? Obviously nobody wants the fish hook Dimebag shit. Fuck Dean and Fuck Lawyers who defend this shit. I say PRS and Fender get in and dogpile these fags and put a stop to the cheapening of their brand.

3.5 days a week 6 figures digging rotting garbage out of people’s mouths. Also, Ibanez is nip shit played exclusively by Brazilian mutts 35 years behind the curve.
Ibanez is a dying knock off brand that was propped up by sponsorships just like Dean, ESP. Schecter, and Chapman. All cheap Asian knock offs from the same factory.
PRS is Atleast respectable because as faggoty as that quack Paul is with his sales techniques he made his own design and went his own way with finishes and look. Yeah it’s a strat and a les Paul averaged together but it is still innovating and the whole colorful wood veneers is fresh and looks nice. Also hé some some how managed to get a somewhat unique sound (soulless) out his guitars. They sound like what a computer would make a guitar sound like. It’s both very good and very bad.
He also refused to make a strat copy until people wouldn’t shut the fuck up about it, and even then he priced it jokingly high to punish them for making him do it.
Just buy a Gibson or a Fender depending on what you play and quit wasting money strapping $200 magnets to Chinese ply wood.
As much of a joke as financing gear is via Sweetwater it’s still a better financial decision than buying a $600 chink Ibanez and then spending hundreds getting it ‘upgraded’. It’s like putting a V10 Ferrari engine in a Civic.
Yeah it’s now got a better engine but you’re still driving a Civic and dealing with the cheap interior when a Audi S4 would have beeen a much more practical use of money.

This guy knows whats up. It always makes me laugh to see people 'upgrade' shitplanks. Sure you can put better tuners on it, better pickups, hardware, etc but the time you do all that, why not just get something good to begin with? I'd always take even an entry level Gibson over a lot of the chinkshit. Fender on the other hand I think the MIM stuff has always been pretty decent but I'd still rather pay up for MIA or MIJ even.
Colton Butler

He added another cut out to a les paul and moved the tuners in. ESP is unironically more original than PRS.

20 year old zoomers live in an age of plenty where owning "THE REAL DEEEAAAAL!!!!" isn't a badge of pride because anyone with a credit card can do that. The appeal is gone, only rational decisions remain. The rational standpoint is the real deal isn't any better than the chinese wood.

David Nguyen
I thought toanwud was magic and you got what you paid for? Tribute gibsons cost as much as high end schecters. And since American labor costs more, they must be cutting costs even more.
Jose Green
Because the upgraded "shitplank" is bette rthan the entry level gibson
Some PRS SE with a three piece neck holds its set up better than an entry level gibson And all that makes sound is the strings and pickups. So as long as the wood doesn't move it doesn't matter.
Jack Myers
Gibson did do the design themselves in the 50s and 60s and do make good guitars, despite what the Reddit analysis of the Gibson Bankruptcy is. Gibson went bankrupt because they bought a bunch of companies that needed up being duds. Robot tuners, KrK, that weird music website that mapped celeb gear. They dumped millions into diversifying their portfolio only to have it all make none of the money back. The guitars sold then and they sell now and the guitar sales being strong is actually how the company is still around as they carried all those dead brands on their backs.
It’s thé Reddit tier analysis that reads ‘Gibson Bankrupt!’ That immediately can’t see any other explanation than ‘the guitars are bad!’ It had nothing to do with the QC or sales at all. Order one up (you can’t because you’re poor I know, and this whole thing with dean is just you wanting access to the style you can’t afford) and try to find one thing wrong with it.
And for the record, i owned one dean guitar, it was a Dave mustaine V I got wholesale through a friend, and it was nice. Set neck comfortable joint, shit pick ups, but Chinese and decent for the price, pots were a joke. Held up well for a Chinese guitar. Thé neck contour is very very nice, some super thing D shape thing I’ve never scène before. You metal fags would like it.
However, Dean is in trouble for the classic V shape not the pointy V Dave sells.
PS: Metallica and Dave all played Gibson until ESP and Dean literally paid them not to. As soon as they aren’t getting paid? They’ll go back.

It also holds value better and has a much nicer finish than any non-Japanese Schecter will ever have. >Some PRS SE with a three piece neck holds its set up better than an entry level gibson Totally not true. Any setup guitar, Gibson included, holds tune fine. The retards who can't keep Gibson in tune don't have the nut filed/cut right or its not properly lubricated. Please keep the sour grapes away here and state some facts. Also, 3 piece necks are cost cutting measures. Its a pretty simple overdriven tone. You could get that with just about any amp with a bit of reverb and delay.
Landon Cook
I found something wrong with them and I didnt even have to order one
>buy guitar >have to modify the nut to keep it in tune It's still way better than any other brand!
Dylan Wilson
Why would I sand my neck? I have a quality guitar that doesn't need fixing
Brayden Reed
You're acting like I said this applies to ALL Gibson's. I never said that. I said it applies to people who own a Gibson guitar and don't have it setup right. The nut on a guitar wears slowly overtime from bending strings and basically whenever the string in the slot moves. So eventually, on any brand of guitar, you have to adjust or replace the nut. Please get educated, you must be a beginner.
Jaxson Diaz
Imagine typing all this bullshit to defend a brand that has to resort to suing people to stay in business. A case study in cognitive dissonance
Jordan Ortiz
I did order one up. It kept going out of tune because of the retardcore headstock. All the nut lubes in the world didn't do anything. The nut needed re-cut or replaced.
Don't get me started on that sticky shit they call a finish either. Fucking disgusting instrument.
For $2000, that was inexcusable. You pay that much to not have anything to upgrade, even though it's more than you would ever spend polishing up a cheaper instrument. PRS makes gibson clones with another body cutout and a fixed headstock. Not very original but at least you can take your guitar out of the container it came in and have something that's ready to play.
For a cost cutting measure they do wonders for neck stability
There's no actual reason to use one piece of wood for the neck. It's always going to be less stable and you're just trying to approximate the rigidity of a mutliple piece neck. In fact there's no reason to use wood at all. Aluminum is better and definitely resonates better than any wood.
Maybe you bought a gibson?
Juan Smith
>uh jk all guitars do it! >that's why gibsons have to do it and PRS dont! Play authentic
Jace White
Some people prefer the glossy feel, some people like a satin feel
Isaac Jackson
So the gibson les paul in heritage cherry burst I bought from guitar center for about $2000 last year was worn in for me by some dumbfuck factory employee?
Surely it's wasn't just a poorly made guitar with a cheap nut, a cheap finish, and an expensive logo?
Cooper Anderson
people don't buy gibson because they want a good guitar people buy gibson because they want gibson they want to look like slash, they want to look like buckethead they want to say they own a gibson they want to walk up to a guy with a strat and tell him his guitar looks like a toy with those devil horns and that dumb stick coming out of the bridge they want to feel superior
at least until they go to play the thing
gibson isn't a guitar brand gibson is a lifestyle
Adam Ward
No! You're doing it wrong! You need to spend at least 2000 on a QUALITY instrument that you DONT have to upgrade! Then, once you have it, you NEED TO CHANGE THE NUT, THIS IS CRUCIAL. now you have the ultimate instrument, with an easily fixable headstock
Grayson Ross
The spic you described would own an ibanez
Liam Johnson
What's funny is in 12 years of playing I can honestly say, I dont know a single person playing a Gibson that isn't sponsored, or over 50 years old. This dentist cuck really fell for the meme hard
Henry Hernandez

Thats true, but a good thing to keep in mind is that wood does come in different grades and quality levels of course. So, a 1 piece neck can actually be great. Fender has used them for years and are strong and all though mahogany isn't as strong as maple on average it can still be quite stable. Anyway, it makes sense for PRS to do that at the price point, its a way to keep cost down and make the neck stable so it works out.
Again, you're applying the idea to all Gibson's. I said certain Gibson's can be like this and really any guitar can have a nut problem from the factory. You're being very dramatic, which makes me think you're not that knowledgeable.
Probably. Guitar Center generally carries usually the worst version/stock since they're a big box store who doesn't hand pick or do proper setups to stuff thats sitting on a rack. Also if it had all these problems, why did you buy it? Your story isn't all that convincing.
Joseph Rivera
Gibson is original and quality. PRS is unoriginal but quality and soulless. PRS wouldn’t exist without Gibson and McCarty. Fender would exist without dean and Gibson would exist as well.
That’s why everyone wants a Gibson and even your poor ass would take one in a second if you could afford it. Fox and grapes
Lucas Miller
Wow, I have not seen this much sour grapes towards Gibson in a while.
>all guitars do this >no wait not all guitars do this some gibsons dont! You're not a consistent or clever retard are you
John Perez
First i gotta thank you for introducing a new cool band to hear. Second you might need a single coil for that, i doubt a humbucker would sound similar (Unless you use middle position on les paul for example its doable) I'd reccomend a marshall, not only because he uses it but they reach those tones easily. You don't even need a overdrive, just put the gain on the marshall as low as possible (I use at 4) and everything else on max, (though i use bass at 0). If you don't use plugins or got a multi-effects, then you will need a overdrive on clean channel. And for both cases a reverb and maybe delay. I can't use them to save my life so i dunno how you'd set them.
What the fuck? When did I say all other guitars have problems? I said its possible than ANY other guitar could have the same problem, not ALL others beside Gibson. Please adjust your glasses.
David James
Why do guitar women always look like caricatures, jesus christ
Chase Sullivan
Here's the part you're going to really love
After returning the les paul I bought an American strat and was 100% satisfied with it in every way from the noiseless pups to the compound radius and the slightly contoured heel an the two point trem. It costed half as much and sounded twice as good. Clean or distorted, single coils sound like music and humbuckers sound like mud. The wood's light, the sustain's amazing, the attack is well defined, and the finish is pristine and doesn't stick to your hand.
Fender actually knows how to make a guitar. Who knew.
The strat also came from guitar center and I take every guitar I buy to a more reputable luthier for a setup (sans hardware modification/replacement)
And I bought it because I fucking can. And I like K-On.
Jeremiah Davis
>surely fender and gibson, the only two guitar companies, have done something as simple and logical as this get a sambora signature its no 24 frets tho
Anthony Foster
Dont listen to anything this guy just told you, he has no clue what hes talking about. 100% srs
Brandon King
>any guitar could have this problem >except for gibsons! >that's why you buy authentic >and immediately replace the nut That will be 2000 burgers please
Nicholas Robinson
Anyone who actually plays guitars and doesnt use them as a fashion accessory already knows Gibson are overpriced pieces of shit. There's objectively not a single thing that makes them better than any other brand, and a ton of downsides, like headstocks exploding.
I'm dead ass serious you clearly are an inept mongoloid, you have no reason to give anyone advice whatsoever
Matthew Perez
Okay, now I know you're really blind. I acknowledged here that eventually the nut needs to be adjusted/replaced on any guitar make/brand. I did not say ever that Gibsons don't have potential problems, but many people claim that Gibson's always have 'serious' tuning problems when its just not true once they are setup like ANY other guitar. Jesus.
Brayden Perez
gibsons have problems when new a set up on a gibson means replacing the fucking nut
fenders have problems after being played hours a day for half a fucking decade a set up on a fender means a quarter turn on the truss rod and adjusting the screws on the bridge
every other successful guitar company bases their designs on fenders
Levi Long
Dave always played Jacksons before moving to Dean, retarded beaner
Lucas Baker
>all guitars need their nuts replaced some day >that's why it's okay to need to replace it right away on a 2000 burger guitar >play authentic Lmao holy shit you're deluded
lmfao, keep at it boys. This is why you'll never own a Gibson due to jealousy and jerking off to made up bullshit. I never once said you had to REPLACE the nut on all Gibsons, I said it will need adjusted on some of them, just like any other guitar. Sorry you're too low IQ to understand that, I should have known being on Yea Forums at all and working minimum wage to buy your LTD shitplanks.
Because PRS makes the best guitars at every price point they offer
Colton Carter
Aren't you the guy who owns a gibson and a strat but can hardly play either of them
Or are you the guy who doesn't even own a guitar
Owen Morris
>it doesnt have to be replaced! You just have to modify your 2000 burger guitar! Its unreasonable to expect them to be playable when you buy them! The absolute madness of this lad
Andrew Morgan
Must be awkward for Agnesi to go back to Norman's rare guitars after that
Jason Morgan
He owns em, but he sure cant play em lmao
Jose Moore
as nice as fender american elite strats are the finish options are fucking disgusting
change my mind
Grayson Murphy
They did, they lost, they looked like assholes and it hurt their reputation. That's why everyone is so surprised they're doing it again. Gibson is such a fucking joke
Eli Nguyen
No way dude they're the best guitars minus the headstock thing, but that's no problem you just replace the nut, after that's done you just replace the pickups to get the tone you're going for and you're only down 4000 dollars, that's an absolute steal
Kayden Peterson
In my life of owning everything from squires to schecters and LTDs to ibanez to American Fender, have I had to have a nut adjusted or replaced for any reason on a new (OR USED) guitar.
It takes many, many, many years and hours to wear down a good nut.
If there is an industry that makes nuts cut for gibson headstocks you have to wonder why they're not coming on brand new gibsons. It's like an MIA strat coming with duncan designed pickups, really.
Dude it's just not a big fucking deal, so what you replace the nut it's only a 3000 dollar guitar do you seriously expect it to play right out of the box?
Jacob Jenkins
Black and white is THE soulless finish. Spics love that characterless trash.
Jace Turner
Wrong. Spics are known for gaudy colors T. Spic.
Dominic Gutierrez
>Gibson sales up 10% even as it files for bankruptcy >Ibanez sales down 24% over the last decade
Yikes
Michael Reyes
Spics start on squiers and move to Ibanez a year later 100% f the time
Elijah Morales
How the fuck does a $200 squire do it?
Aiden Powell
20 year old zoomers have never even heard of gibson because every young talent is playing fender. Based zoomers.
Benjamin Parker

Japanese women are like this? Wow, I want a wife like this now
Alexander Allen
Based, that neck pickup is terrible on both the strat and the tele. They finally got it right with the jaguar.
Henry Cooper
Dave plays whatever brand pays him the most. Before he was sonosrss by dean it was jackson and line 6 and whoever.
Old videos from before they were sponsored it was Gibson.
Poor fags are the same in every fucking interest.
>MY CIVIC IS FASTER THAN YOUR M5 >MY SQUIRE IS BETTER THAN YOUR GIBSON >MY STUDIO IS BETTER THAN YOUR $450k house
Yikes. French Revolution was a mistake
Aaron Martinez
not all expensive things are worth the money and will get you mocked behind your back by other richfags
the m5 is a fucking boat
a $20,000 open wheel racer will out lap it and any other supercar
>but muh street legal ah yes, you suffer a stiff suspension and low ride height so you can follow the speed limit in style. should have just got that porsche minivan and trailered something that's actually fast to your local track
assuming you can afford to do that
if you want to try this, assuming you are rich, buy a harley, and roll up to your local ducati owners club. watch for the people turning around to chuckle.
