haven't heard it yet, but i'm looking forward to having another experimental math rock band to listen to since Battles is down to two members at this point and it's likely they won't be doing anything anytime soon.
8/10 at least
Probably a 7. I agree with the gripes about the production and find some tracks to be a waste of time like Western and Reggae. Don’t get the hype behind Ducter, the production kills any intensity it should have. Near DT, MI, bmbmbm and Years Ago are my favorites. Good album, not the best I’ve heard this year but solid.
8. The live versions from KEXP are better though
7/10
reggae is one of the best songs on the album you fucking pleb
Just wait until Fantano reviews this thing and it becomes this year's equivalent to that daughters album
It’s ok to have garbage taste, just don’t tell me about it because I don’t give a shit.
AOTY unironically, went above and beyond my expectations although i think the production left a little bit to be desired, especially on the drums. but i think it does justice to the live performances

>zoomer band rips off classic band
>zoomers hail it as the most original and interesting thing of the year
he'll give it a 6 or a 7 because he wasn't the one to discover/personally hype it up himself
Have you seen the other shit that came out this year? This is comparatively way more original.
>some secondhand info newfag bullshit
The daughters album was being shilled relentlessly on Yea Forums months before it even released.
this, but this album is fucking amazing. thinks maybe 9
Same genre isn't the same as a copy
maybe not. he's been very lukewarm about this band on TotW.
They're eerily similar songs. They have nearly the same structure, very similar ideas, and the singer even fucking sounds like David Thomas. It goes much deeper than just same genre.
probably my AOTY and i havent even listened yet
near DT, MI is incredible
Probably AOTY
They may share some ideas but the quality of the drumming in bm's track makes it worth it. This is also not the only track of the album
what? pretty much every song theyve officially released before this was on his best tracks of the week
Yes, but it's always a quick shoutout at the end of the video. If you compare it to the praise he gave the daughters track back when it came out there is a big difference
Kinda disappointed that crow's perch and talking heads didn't make the tracklist, but it's easily the best thing I've heard all year so far regardless. Don't get why people are bitching about the production
crows perch and talking heads would have been the weakest tracks by far had they been included on this album
I respectfully disagree sir
Western is a thing
yeah..... i’m thinking it’s based.
its good for sure. not perfect but nothing is.
it rules
western is fucking dumb lol
Interestingly enough I had just gotten into polvo and that 90s math noise stuff around the same time I found these guys last year so the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Album is a solid 8/10 some of the production comes off a bit too clean/soft for the bands sound but not too distracting. Gonna catch them live again in a few weeks
Daughters' s/t was posted here endlessly years ago as well it was damn near Yea Forumscore
does anyone have a dl link? a flac version was shared in the sharethread but i was hoping for mp3
transcode it yourself you retard
Agreed
fucking hell Near DT, MI and Ducter are so good
Ducter's music video was surprisingly well done
Wish they included Crows Perch cause no one fucking knows the lyrics to that song
Sucks that they couldn't use the original bmbmbm sample on the album
underwhelming, boring, unoriginal, safe
INDUSTRY PLANTS
is this the best that rock has to offer? hilarious
When will the lead singer remove his chewing gum from his mouth?
953 is fucking incredible
Why are they allowed to call themselves black midi if they aren't black midi? Also industry plants
Plain production
No it isn't.
>make a bunch of generic music but with le eccentric vocals
>OMG BEST BAND EVER WOW
i guess rock truly is dead after all
Rough Trade are doing a great job at promoting these guys and it's well deserved. Very solid first album with some sick Hella/This Heat vibes and great musicianship. Don't forget to check their live collab with Damo Suzuki.
9/10, been listening non stop since release. They actually fucking delivered.
eh
the contrarians have kicked into gear early but it's still great. no doubt Yea Forums will turn against it as soon as it gets good reviews
Same reason Adult Jazz can call themselves that despite not being Jazz
And as mentioned above I also wish the production was a little less clean but it still does the job as is.
>n-n-no you can't dislike the epic B-B-BLACKMIDI
I'm a fellow boomer and Pere Ubu enthousiast but "eerily similar" seels like a bit of a stretch.
how does this have a 4/5 on rym lmao fucking zoomers
How about this?
This'll be Yea Forumscore before you know it
