I didn't enjoy them outside of a couple tunes in my younger days. The thing with the Dan is that they hide these catchy phrases in there that make you want, or need, to go back and listen to get some context. That's some insidious shit. Before long, you've listened to each of their records hundreds of times and still can't get enough. They are unironically the best band other than the Beatles.

You're on point, OP. The first time I listened to their songs was a couple of years ago when one of them died. I was genuinely curious, but I kept cringing all the time because of the cuckoldy lyrics and all that softness. On the other hand it's extremely well crafted, both musically and production-wise. To me, they're one of music big misteries. I don't like them at all, but I have to admit that they're really original.
