Thoughts on Paul's music after the Beatles? I think some of his Wings songs are actually underrated.

WITH A LITTLE LUCK, A LITTLE LUCK, A LITTLE LUCK~!!
Literally this but unironically.
I unironically think Band on the Run and Venus & Mars are two of the greatest albums of all time, on par with a lot of The Beatles later works. 70s was a good time for Paul musically.
Utterly based post.

He never made good music and beatles are a terrible band
Paul's songs post-Beatles are best heard live. God, what I wouldn't give for him to have played Band on the Run in its entirety live, Jet goes from milquetoast to one of his best songs just by playing it live.
arrow through me is highly underrated.
I don't understand how so many people think music (in general, not referring to Paul specifically) sounds better live, it almost never sounds as good as it does on the album.
You are a fucking baller for bringing this song to my attention.
I think if you've never listened to Wings Over America and seen Rockshow, your opinion on McCartney's post-Beatles career is worthless.
Venus and Mars could have been a much better album if they moved the guitars up in the mix. It sounds too sterile and weak, but the songwriting is top notch.
Rockshow is probably my favorite concert movie of all time, can never get sick of it
This whole album should be brought to your attention tb h
Same. My dad had in on a shit VHS back in the day. I was stoked as hell when it came out on bluray a few years back.
Jet is night and day, dude. Also Calico Skies.
>Calico Skies
That song is so sad in the context of Linda dying during the recording of Flaming Pie.
imo Wings are a lot less underrated today than they were in the 70s
Boomer critics didn't appreciate them at all and I don't know why. They were unironically better than the Beatles.
Wings shows were great and a lot better than the "let's be Beatle Paul for the masses" show he's had going on for the past 30 years
Flaming Pie is such a great album.
Critics in the 70s held a grudge against McCartney and blamed him for the break up of the Beatles. He was the only one in the band that wanted to keep working on music as a functional band.
Agreed 100%
I unironically love this song

Better than most of his other albums from the 00s. I'd say only Chaos and Creation is a little better.
Very true.
Tbh Paul is insanely consistent in his solo work, I could've basically listed the entire tracklist for each album up to Pipes of Peace
How do you feel about Laine and McCulloch songs like Time To Hide, Medicine Jar, Wino Junko, etc?

Frank Sinatra's Party
Uncle Albert was great.
I like them. I think 74-76 Wings was the most "true band" Wings, and that's probably the one that most people think of when they think of Wings given that that's the Wings Over America band.
I'd rank the non-Paul Wings songs like so:
Again and Again and Again
Wino Junko
Medicine Jar
Deliver Your Children
Time To Hide
Children Children
I think that's all of them.
Agreed. Dunno if you count Henry's Blues or Cook of the House.
Henry's Blues I don't cause it was never officially released.
Cook of the House I forgot, but the less said about it the better.
Tug of War is fucking garbage
Hahaha. Cook of the House is easily my least favorite Wings song. Suzi and the Redstripes had better songs. Also Denny Laine's album Japanese Tears is pretty underrated. Some songs featured McCartney on bass and backing vocals.
Take It Away is a superb pop song.
I was refering to Electric Arguments. I didnt think Strawberries was anything special, but Rushes was decent. Electric Arguments I feel was far and away superior to the others.
Absolute shit opinion. Tug of War is genuinely one of the best albums of the 80s, by anyone.
There’s some nice drumming on “Celtic Stomp” on Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest but it’s definitely not as good as Rushes or Electric Arguments.
I wish Paul had an album in Billy Joel's style, just him and a piano.
Is there anything like it or near it?
I have to make a confession to make lads
I...
I actually love Ebony and Ivory
I don’t really know Billy Joel’s work apart from Piano Man and Uptown Girl but Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is Paul’s most piano based album.
Ebony and Ivory + No More Lonely Nights are top tier 80s music. beautiful melody/vocals.

>i havent seen lonely nights mentioned in this thread so anyone who hasnt heard it before listen

Paul’s 80s work is so underrated.
Ram is as good or better than some of the beatles' best albums
Bold statement, but not unfounded.
Personally always ranked it way higher than Wings whole catalogue, including "Band on the Run" which I find overrated.
Another Day could’ve been a huge Beatles hit
