To be fair, blaming Lorde for the end of pop music is kind of like blaming Nirvana for killing 80s metal. 2013 was around the time when social media was making music far more niche. Labels realized they didn't have to produce epic pop songs which appealed to everyone anymore, all they had to do was create niche artists who appealed to niches. Shit like early 2010s meme rap is arguably what lead to late 2010s SoundCloud rap.
