i used to , fuck i cringe so much when i think about it

it sounds good

ART

you can hear the echo pops on it!!!

the only argument i've heard against it is "it's was easy to make" and i haven't heard any other albums that sound like this one despite its critical acclaim and widespread notoriety. if it was so easy to make why hasn't anyone copied it yet

What do you listen to nowadays user?

someone post the full cover

>if it’s so easy to take a wet shit into a cup and drink it why hasn’t anyone else done it yet

>some john maus and shitty minimal synth obsessed RYM thot rates it 1.0
>all of a sudden everyone hate on the album even more than ever
you'll never have sex with bratty, faggots

SOME OF THEM WERE LISTENING TO WHAM!, DUDE

ART CON JACKASS

>i have no arguments so i will resort to a poorly made scatology analogy because i'm a fucking retard
kek

seek help

it's just a garbage album

People have disliked this album for a very long time. Hardly anything new.

wrong, it's not the only argument you've heard against it

you've also heard the argument that it's too repetitive to not be boring, and the argument that it's not nearly as organic as it claims to be (digital echo effect lmao), and the argument that it's not actually inspired by 9/11 despite coasting off of the event
Basinski has made dozens of other loop tracks that are more interesting to listen to (and that's not saying much)

It's about as natural as a fuckin Spice Girls record

why should i be the one creating arguments here when you never presented one to counter in the first place? get a grip on reality buddy.

it's a good argument though, it points out very clearly why being the first to do something isn't always something to be proud of

Imagine ironically listening to this album

many styles man.
Duster is my favorite band, mostly slowcore and ambient, but not this kind of shitty loop based ambient.

LOL

Attached: art con jackass.jpg (608x300, 45K)

So natural

Imagine buying this album because cuckfork told you to and receiving it only to find the crossdressing homo on the back. So much for 9/11.

(actual quotes from Basinski's interview about this album)

AAAAAH...

Biosphere makes loop-based ambient. I suppose he's shit too, right?

He profited off the death of thousands.

Attached: William-Basinski.jpg (480x496, 33K)

it sounds nice though

This record has a picture of the fucking WTC on fire on the cover. But it was recorded before that happened.
Now, William Basinski is only eager to tell you that the day after he recorded it, the twin towers got hit. So that must fucking mean something, RIGHT? And he played it over his speakers, while he watched them burning.

Are you fucking kidding me?
This dude stamps a fucking picture of the biggest tragedy in fucking American history (arguably) on the cover of his album, and suddenly, we're supposed to lend him the gravity of that event for his bullshit loop music? I mean this guy is your typical art con jackass. He's going around, talking in these completely heady terms about what a fucking incredible, you know, "coincidence of the universe this was that all these things happened at once..." and, you know, "the light pours out of me.."
Get the fuck outta here.

Plenty of people watched those towers burn. Some of them were listening to WHAM! dude.

Attached: wolverine-hugh-jackman.jpg (1024x629, 85K)

The same people who shit on this probably jerk off to shit like Brian Eno or Harold Budd

the repetition is the point if it was constantly changing rather than being a loop it would take the focus off the degradation of the tape which is what the music is about

as for the 9/11 thing, i think it's ballsy to put it on the cover because it's something some people are obviously going to get mad about but he was there and you weren't, faggot

>i don't personally like it so IT MUST BE GARBAGE!!!!!
sure, i guess i can say the same about john maus mediocre input and lots of shitty obscure post-punk records ;)
it really is not though. you're dumb as a rock as to why you can't explain why the album is objectively bad without resorting to poop analogies. are you 16? lmao
>duster
>Yea Forumscore
>good
jej

she likes hypnagogic pop more than minimal synth

Brian Eno was actually novel and innovative for his time unlike le 9/11 man

can confirm this is true. AND WHAT

look at this fucking poofter

Attached: Basinski.jpg (768x1024, 133K)

disliking this for most of the reasons ITT is a sign of holding the image something represents over that actual image i.e. of being a hipster.
>you've also heard the argument that it's too repetitive to not be boring
this right here is the only non-hipster argument.

She's playing you all like a fiddle

Attached: 1560119938789.jpg (750x738, 426K)

it's not my style, it's shitty for me, same with Celer, yeah, the tracks are pleasant to listen to, sure, but that's pretty much it

>RepEtItion Is tHe Po1nt!!!!!!
Not a fucking excuse for the result to be so fucking boring, there are a billion samples and tapes you could use to illustrate that process better.

The concept is worthless without a good execution, and if the result of tape disintegrating in front of the WTC (actually a day before, but let's not mention that embarrassing fact that fucks up the narrative) is THIS uneventful, then it's really not worth the effort.

Also, it's really ballsy to inject vomit into your eyeballs.
And I was there when I saw a dog take a shit in the street last week and you weren't faggot.

being the first to do something doesn't make it cool

>novel and innovative
>doing the exact same thing but removing all progression
wow very "novel"

oh no no no

>you're dumb as a rock as to why you can't explain why the album is objectively bad without resorting to poop analogies.
the analogy was never to explain why it was bad but to explain why it was never copied. maybe, just maybe, people aren’t stupid enough to copy your novelty gimmick album.

unironically one of the prettiest girls ive ever seen

they aren't pleasant so much as they're inoffensive

which really goes against what this faggot is claiming
people aren't mad about him using 9/11 as a platform, they're mad about gullible faggots falling for it.

i take it you have no sense of chronology then. since you apparently seem to think eno and basinski coexisted.

to reiterate: plenty of people watched those towers burn. Some of them were listening to WHAM! dude.

If you like Basinski and shit on pic related for being exploitive, you're a hypocrite.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1072x1072, 161K)

i hate basinski and think buyer’s market is a good insight into the gritty details of child sex abuse.

I shit on this one for being very unimpressive

>obscure album that people have only heard once or twice and stopped thinking about it
>Yea Forums starts obsessing over it just because some maoist chick panned it on rym

way to completely invent a course of events that did not happen

the fact that you’re the only people bringing up the dumb rym roastie tells me enough about who the one actually obsessing over her is.

I judge music on their own merits, not on their "chronology" or "level of inspiration" like a hipster.

seek help

If you like Basinski and shit on pic related for being exploitive (vietnam dudes), you're a hypocrite.

>all these comments already
just proves me right that I mentioned the elephant in the room

taking into account the era in which a piece of music was made makes you a hipster? since when? i suppose pointing out that criticizing bach’s piano works for lacking dynamics is a futility makes you a hipster too i guess.

>being the first to do something doesn't make it cool
being the first to see something that is cool is cool. A dog shitting isn't cool. Towers burning and crumbling from a terrorist attack planejacking out of a scifi movie is cool.

Reminder that the Smiths gained their career profiteering off the Moors murders

Attached: 41Q1MXKWBBL._SX355_.jpg (355x350, 15K)

the problem with the album isn't that it's exploitative, it's that it's boring and does a shitty job of illustrating the effects of tape decay.

And then, there's also another problem, with the audience this time: people trick themselves into liking it, when what they like is actually their own reminiscence of 9/11 and the sense of self-importance it gives them.

Luckily I'm immune to it cause when 9/11 was reported I was just pissed off they broadcasted it instead of my saturday morning cartoons. Still am. I missed several episodes of Digimon because of this bullshit.

I appreciate tdl and ottposting tbqhf

No it's fucking not. It's boring everyday shit you see all the time on tv. Every day you see people getting blown up.

okay, so let's talk about listening experience and quiet/minimal/repetitive music being 'boring'. i don't know about you, but i listen to music mostly while doing other things. i listen to music while browsing Yea Forums, for example. it can actually be nice to have music that doesn't ask for my attention for any particular amount of time. for example, if i pause the disintegration loops in the middle of a song because i saw a link to something else, and i spend 3 minutes listening to that and then come back to the disintegration loops, i haven't really interrupted the music in any meaningful way. this makes it great music for internet browsing. i wouldn't do that with a tim hecker song, because momentum is a hugely important part of tim hecker just like a pop song. if you pause it in the middle, it kinda ruins it. The Disintegration Loops just works with how I listen to music. It fills the role of ambient music in that it doesn't ask for 100% of my attention. It's also great music for reading, because it doesn't have a message of its own which would conflict with whatever it is you're reading, or for walking around with headphones for the same reason. The messages in the Disintegration Loops are all subliminal or only vaguely suggested, which is good. That means you can give it your own meaning and your own context

>being the first to see something that is cool is cool.
Yeah yeah douglas levison we get it you walked bob dylan up on stage that one time no one fucking cares

Objectively false, you're a fucking idiot if you think they used that for attention. Morrissey lived near where they happened and was scarred by it, thus he made a song about it

>since when
since forever, fuck off with your historical relativism

what you described is essentially furniture music, and the fact that you’re defending the disintegration loops by calling it that when it clearly wasn’t intended to be background noise says a lot.

yeah this is bait. no thanks.

And as I said, Basinski has made a ton of other loop tracks that are better than this one, if only because they have more notes.

This one is one of his weaker ambient works and I've never heard him produce ambient works that weren't weak.

It's not great music for reading it's tolerable music for reading.

>That means you can give it your own meaning and your own context
then it's not something you should credit Basinski for. You can always give your own meaning and context to any piece of media, but that context is not part of the piece of media, it's part of your experience, it's a separate thing that entertains you on its own terms, whereas the song by itself is still boring.

based bratty and ott singlehandedly killing basinski's career

but it's really, really good furniture music, is the thing. out of all the furniture music out there, it's pretty high up there. and this is what the Brian Eno school of ambient music intended for ambient music to be, although I don't think Eno is the best ambient musician by a longshot

even worse lmao, except for jim ferraro and olr

It is good. Hipster cunts wont shut the fuck up about its context and all the other useless shit surrounding it. The drone is captivating to me

it's really, really not good furniture music.

It's really low down there, we've lived through vaporwave, both of us know that you can to A LOT more as far as furniture music goes, even with a shitty DAW and youtube mp3 rips.

If you try to convince me once more that this isn't bad music, I will have to call you a liar. So far i'm giving you the benefit of the doubt by assuming that you're merely forgetting a ton of better ambient songs that you've already listened to. But if you tell me once more that the disintegration loops are good, then it can only mean that you're lying your ass off.

why are you mocking an autistic 19yo girl's music taste? does it make you feel good?

why wouldn't it?

i'm proto-vaporwave

every definition of vaporwave from literally everyone says its about parodying consumerism or some shit like that so unless it's in a video of an abandoned mall it does change the meaning of whatever you pair it with

yeah, it does, because that says you are taking when it was made into account (i.e not that you particularly like it, just that you respect it)

>Every day you see people getting blown up
Yeah, evenday I'm walking down fucking new york and just see planes flying into buildings right in front of me! Why is every one so worked up about this 9 eleven shit?

>every definition of vaporwave from literally everyone says its about parodying consumerism
stop lying

and even if that wasn't a lie, vaporwave is still more pleasant to listen to

why indeed?
probably because americans are drama queens with an overinflated sense of "manifest destiny" or whatever bullshit settlers were told in order to kick them out of the Continent.

still no an argument. nice backpedalling tho.

she cute!
and she likes minimal synth!
THEREFORE SHE HAS GOOD TASTE IN MUSIC!!!!11

Attached: 1560020525391.jpg (1079x1079, 126K)

Bukowski or whatever the fuck his name is lived near why it happened was scarred by it too. How is that any different?

this. i don't consider it a masterpiece, but is still pretty enjoyable. fuck contrariant hipsters like this cunt

because she doesn't really listen or enjoy that music. she only uses rym and rate obscure albums as a fashion accesory and because she has a really bland personality.

You guys are so insecure and obsessive.
It's no secret that many may do away with this hokey, contrived album. And they have all reason to do as such take away the eyerolling 9/11 story and people will simply blow it off as by the numbers tape music that had been done to death well before the 80s, even 70s for that matter.
But of course, the beta boys who parrot and posture and feel an overwhelming need to latch onto everything music hating journalists tell them is good will go up in arms and cry.
Keep complaining, it is sub par.

the projection is strong

Ah yes, the baseless claim by some insecure loser most likely projecting.

she does though. you sound insecure
last.fm/user/nyekii

you sound insecure

Absolutely laughing at the guy who even thinks Bahacksi is deserving of being talked about in the same breath as Eno or Budd.
The Disintegration Loops is the musical equivalent of oscar-bait.
Complain nonetheless, it'll still be a sub par album who's main strength is a goofy story.

Can you explain why? It's the same shit

Wait so now i'm not allowed to like this for some reason?

Yeah and it has nothing to do with the actual music

Unironically how you look when you find a scapegoat for why people dislike something you claim to like.

The moors murders happened in Manchester, Basinski lived in Texas, you fucking idiot Cure fan, this had nothing to do with the topic in the first place

t.
Unironically how you white knightening faggots look when I dislike most of the shitty music she likes.

I think it's good. Maybe the 9/11 connection is played up a little bit to give it additional weight. But that doesn't change the fact that it's still a really beautiful portrayal of decay. When I listen to it, I honestly do think about 9/11. Every year I'm reminded of it, but it also fades further and further into the distance. Every year I remember it a little bit less clearly. And eventually no one will really remember it. That's true of 9/11, but it's also true of all things in human history, I guess.

Not an argument

He literally took the photo. What the fuck are you talking about

>Reminder that this is the last truly masterpiece of ambient music and not your shitty "moooo towers what a tragic sound" music

Btw, this must be the worst thread i've seen in a while. Fucking hate Basilinski

I recorded this after I stubbed my toe. This recording represents the feeling I immediately had 1 second after the pain shot through my body, just stretched out into 10 minutes. It's my most human piece to date.

Can I have a 9/10 pitchfork review now?

>vocaroo.com/i/s00nYh5wIffE
This thread cant die after this

Never listened to this shit album, but Christ. As somebody who has lived in the United States my entire life, why are Americans so fucking obnoxious about 9/11?
Genuinely who gives a fuck? Except for the people literally in the towers and their relatives, I have nothing but pure contempt for the people who were really "traumatized" and "damaged" by the event. Jesus, get a hold of yourselves.

This user just killed Basinski threads for good

I can upload the entire 1 hour thing, might take a while though, even slap together some cover art. Cant promise a dreamy picture of myself on the back though.

Finally a decent reply I can agree with. Fuck everyone ITT except this guy.

Of course you think about 9/11.

Its not even real decay. It's digital lol

Nice. Now go back to listening to your epic complex guitar solos.

sorry you like shit music made by a hack.

go to bed Bratty

why do people think bratty posted this
lots of people hate this album especially on rym

The Wilderness of Mirrors feels like a comfy combination of spacey Tangerine Dream and noisy Tim Hecker ambient. Idk if it's a classic album though

I always thought it was too repetitive until I got insomnia
it's perfect music for when you're very tired
