Probably Swans, made me more accepting of listening to whole albums as an experience rather than a collection of songs and also made me think of my life in a similar way

Black metal made me want to hurt people.

no, my musical choices reflect my personality, it never changed it.
and I never became part of any subculture, in part because that's not a thing where I live

Seconded

Not really. I tried to wear makeup once when I was 13 cuz I got into Lou reed but my dad got mad at me so for the most part it's just been a reflection of who I already am

no wave, hardcore punk, and sonic youth made decide to take art seriously when i was a teenager. really steered me in the direction

I grew out of my punk phase in 2004.

the smiths made me beta

Druggy trap rap, got me into drugs which made me willing to try other music.

My answer is also Swans, but only because I'm an asshole to everyone now and I think that started when I started listening to Swans.

also made me more outgoing, saw the bad side of drugs, slowed down on them. Started making sure my body and mental were good. Got really artistic. Now I'm a more complete person I feel.

Animal Collective made me suck cock

The Fall, but they didn't really change my lifestyle, they just corrupted my sense of humor.

Mark E. Smith is the first and only music artist that I've idolized. I don't idolize him anymore and I've never tried to mimic his behavior, but his views on nostalgia, polarization, and the power of words have influenced me greatly.

based
feel you man.

for me personally its death grips and i relate the guy above but yeah man, it sounds retarded but it made me into a bigger retard but at the same time opened me up to a lot of stuff. honestly death grips is dangerous for autists. i remember reading tyler the creator almost got into a car accident because of the crackhead energy that nldw gave him and i completely relate. i used to listen to them almost exclusively to a point and now its like i can't even listen to some of their stuff cause it just brings up such a weird part of my life, but i still fuuuuucking love their music

strokes anyone?

I've been trying to get into them man please give me an album

My personal favorite is "Grotesque (After the Gramme)." It's funny, catchy, and has the best closer I've ever heard.

Other common favorites are "This Nation's Saving Grace" and "The Wonderful and Frightening World Of..." Those are good albums but not their best in my opinion.

"Live at the Witch Trials" is a good starter album but it's sort of a musical outlier in their discography. More of a punk record than anything else.

"Dragnet" is a really enjoyable garage rock record.

"Perverted By Language" is another favorite of mine but it's also their most challenging; has some extremely long songs and some of Smith's most dense lyrics.

"The Infotainment Scan" is probably their most fun pop-oriented album. Another personal favorite.

"Your Future Our Clutter" is an album that you should get to eventually, but only if you really enjoy The Fall. It's the best of their post-2000s material.

I could go on forever but this is already way longer than I planned for it to be.

my uncle gave me king crimson and black sabbath records when i was like 12. I am virginal, arrogant, edgy, and unhappy. Furthermore, I strive to convey the most demented and fucked up themes in my music through all aspects of each song.

duuuude thanks

Yea Forums core made me realize what introverts consider good music. And made me appreciate even more that I detest Yea Forums core.

i fucked michael alig once

Hip hop decreased my iq

That was never a part of late 60s to early 80s hard rock, but okay.

What wasn't? You could be addressing like 5 different things

GY!BE

Also listening to Ween made me much cooler

Also Club Kids rule

Nirvana gave me a cigarette addiction

Became obsessed with the strokes in freshman year of high school and LARPed as Julien Casablancas for the next two years.

Except Michael Alig

When I was 14 I heard happy hardcore rave music for the first time and I made me want to be a poser raver and I dressed like a complete fruit loop for a couple years.

Listening to Metalcore/Deathcore from age 13-16 helped me get a lot of pointless teen angst out of my system.

so furry doof hoofs & a furry vest. gotcha

Listening to AmRep-style pigfuck has made me an angrier person, or at least more aware of my frustrations. It's also somehow comforting. I feel emasculated and alone in the technology-dependent waste I inhabit, but at least I have a CD case full of songs by young drunk assholes who are so angry about the state of their minor frustrations that they produce poisonous detuned garbage music about them.

music in general killed my social life
when i was 14 i discovered some rock and metal forum after that i discovered Pitchfork Rate Your Music and what cd and i became obsessed with listening to music and reading about it all day

wanting to kill a whore made me listen more black metal, didnt kill anybody thought cos 20 years in prison is no fun

for me it's that general teenage vibe young energy thing, sometimes i can take it but often i feel like id rather listen boring old heavy metal records on low volume than anything inspiring

Video game music subtly influenced all of my music tastes till now.

death grips
>i used to listen to them almost exclusively to a point and now its like i can't even listen to some of their stuff cause it just brings up such a weird part of my life, but i still fuuuuucking love their music
goddamn i feel exactly the same way

spaceghostpurrp turned me from backpacker to goth
