It was a much bigger year for Yea Forumscore, with LDA, YOTS, Twin Fantasy, that Daughters album, and some other stuff I'm forgetting.
I didn't care for most of those albums, but there were a decent amount of albums last year that I still really enjoyed. I guess it all depends on your taste.

You keep seeing that because it's what people say every single year. Whatever year it is, you'll find tons of people saying "OMG WORST YEAR FOR MUSIC EVAR." Happened last year, and the year before that, etc.
As for 2018 albums you missed, here are some that (mostly) aren't just RYM's list regurgitated. Plenty of others out there as well. You just have to look a little bit.
TFS was an okay album but a huge letdown compared to just about anything from The Drones.
