U2 has made some good music over the years. So has Radiohead. I'd say Radiohead is far more consistent. U2 can be quite bad at times but not on the level of Coldplay.

21st century U2 is either mediocre as all fuck or just incredibly misguided. Wandering into a rock landscape dominated by Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit with a song like "Elevation". It's bad, it sucks, but it's kinda charming despite that. Like lol wtf are you doing here? Coldplay on the other hand were very much of their time and were not at all lost. Their songwriting was almost as bad as The Chainsmokers but they tricked you into thinking it was something better than it really was with the glossy production. Now that it's aged a little bit we can see how hollow it really was.

u2 had a good run from 1980-2000 and remained commercialy relevant for a few more years after that as well
radiohead on the other hand, have always maintained their respect and artistic credibility from 1990-present.

I have no idea but they played that shit on the radio. It was one of those things where you don't hate it enough to turn it off but you don't like it either. Inoffensively bad. WEEEEEEE OOOOHHHH!!!! That fucking Beautiful Day song needed to fuck off though. They played that on the radio constantly for like 2-3 years.

my 60 year old (at the time) grandfather bought the atomic bomb album after hearing the ipod commercial. he also owns exactly 2 other U2 albums: the best of 1980-1990 and all that you can leave behind. go figure.

Lol jeez, I think a lot of old people got really into them after the Super Bowl 9/11 tribute thing and Beautiful Day flooding the radio for a long time. That era was U2 going full on safe adult contemporary horseshit. They're a Gen X band not a boomer band but they embraced dadrock shit around Rattle and Hum and again in the 2000s.

U2 are a strange band desu, they either were very musically adventurous for a band of their level of popularity, or played everything extremely safe.
