70s Ramones
80s D.O.A.
90s Screeching Weasel
00s Swinging Utters
10s Random Hand

70s Magazine
80s Dead Kennedys
10s Iceage
These are the only decades I follow.

Nice! The first three are classics, I had to look up the last two and I'm really liking Swinging Utters - reminds me a lot of early Jawbreaker.

Magazine are fantastic - you probably already know it, but if you haven't, check out the Buzzcocks EP Spiral Scratch. It's when Howard Devoto was still with the band, and it basically sounds like a rougher, earthier Magazine

ever listen to amebix?

Yes, I was actually completely obsessive with Amebix for a while, and they'd be my number 2 for the 80s, after Hüsker Dü. They're actually a big part of why I'm so fond of bands like His Hero is Gone and Fall of Efrafa - I loved Amebix's big, doomy, apocalyptic sound. When I found that new school of crust ("neocrust") I was really excited because they're completely based on that side of Amebix, which it seemed like a lot of the earlier d-beat/crust stuff had ignored (though there's a lot of great earlier crust, obviously). good eye

70s germs
80s dead Kennedy's
90s choking victim
00s bear vs shark
10s adult school

Punk is only second to hip hop as the worst music genre. So basic, so talentless and sloppy, such ignorantly and childishly directed "rage" and hypocrisy for days. It sucks.

I don't know adult school, but great picks, Stza Crack's a cool guy, Germs are classic, and Bear vs Shark is a great band

Great argument, you really showed me.

Great. Now that that's resolved, please find a thread on music you actually like, that you can contribute positively to.

Well at least you hate hip hop

bump

bump

Punk is garbage and nobody wants this thread. Let it die like punk music.

Forget decades, this guy is the fucking best ever

Attached: downloadfile-43.jpg (500x629, 35K)

Some people want it, go back to your kanye thread

Johnny Thunders is great! Tho I'm actually a huge fan of David Johansen. The New York Dolls have amazing energy, I actually saw them live when they first reunited and they were actually really good. For Thunders specifically, though, You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory is probably one of the best rock songs ever written. Some of those Heartbreakers songs are great too

If you like him, you might like Mink DeVille

70s: damned or pere ubu
80s: Bad brains
90s: Dog Faced Hermans
00s: indian summer
10s: died

lol I take issue with your 10s comment, but great picks for the decades. You probably already know them, but if you like Dog Faced Hermans, definitely check out The Ex.

Those early Pere Ubu singles are fantastic

70s - The Stooges
80s - Void
90s - Spazz
00/10s - kanye

No, Died as in the band

70s: Television
80s: Germs
90s: Oblivians
00s: Mclusky
10s: Iceage

oh lol, I'll have to look them up

i have never heard an album made before 1989
the offspring
the offspring
the offspring
the offspring

This except tyler the creator

eh, calling Kanye punk is too far out for me, but I can definitely see the punky quality in the OF kids

nether of those are punk bands

Death grips or maybe frank ocean too

Please do they’re fucking great

huh, interesting stuff. Reminds me a lot of Scratch Acid/The Jesus Lizard, Flipper, the first Rollins Band album, that kinda stuff. Thanks for the rec

>2019
>punk
Punk is old and boring and old. Do something new.

There are lots of punk bands doing very fresh stuff. Nothing comes out of a vacuum. The hip hop movement started around the same time as punk, metal started earlier. Blues and rock started way earlier, and classical and folk obviously predate it by centuries. There is a little revivalist punk stuff, but most of the newer stuff incorporates everything from EDM and noise to black and sludge metal. Your comment is meaningless.

>70s
Siouxsie & The Banshees
The Saints
Magazine
Suicide Commandos
The Stooges
>80s
Misfits
Bauhaus
Rites Of Spring

I don't care. If we're counting screamo, there was some cool shit in the late 90s and early 00s, but I don't really consider that punk.

I definitely consider screamo a punk genre. From the 90s on, it definitely became a thing where even people in punk bands stopped calling themselves punks except for a few distinct subcultures like d-beat, gutter punks, and "oogles." But I think the screamo bands were all very clear that they were playing punk music

If we're counting that, it doesn't get much better than Circle Takes The Square, Orchid, Saetia, and Gospel. It seemed too artsy to be considered punk, especially CTTS with their nine minute long post-rock influenced shit. I think of punk as being more stripped down and bare bones. Orchid were definitely the most chaotic and "punk" of the bunch.

There's always been a very artsy side to punk, hell you yourself list Siouxsie and Magazine. I think it's hard to separate the intense stuff from the artsy stuff, especially with bands like Funeral Diner who were as intensely skramz as they were post-rock. Tbqh I've kind of slept on Circle Takes the Square, but you might like the emoviolence band Ampere, and you might find the "emocrust" band Anopheli interesting

youtube.com/watch?v=bqYe_NehqpU
youtube.com/watch?v=kP1vJzzVy44

Circle Takes The Square are great.
They have a lot of post-rock influenced songs that slowly build to something heavy, like this one.
youtu.be/wtmQKOOZnlM
But they also have some that are short and fast as fuck, like this one.
youtu.be/ZjYpOioJ5Bo

I don't listen to much screamo anymore, but they were always one of my favorites.

thanks, I'll dig into it

80's: Minor Threat
idk any other punk decades except the 80's

That's too bad, because the 70s were better.

i'll start exploring then. why do you believe 70's are better than 80s, if you don't mind me asking?

not him, but I actually like the 80s anarcho-punk scene more than anything in the 70s

not him, but the art punk, no wave, and early post-punk scenes in the 70s are pretty cool

>I actually like the 80s anarcho-punk scene
that's the sound that attracted me to 80's punk. for some reason i just never bothered with other decades of punk.
i definitely will now though, at least for the 70s.

I don't know, man. The 70s punk explosion felt more natural to me, and the 80s hardcore shit feels like a bunch of people dressing up as punks and acting the way they think punks should act, rather than being themselves.

Here are some 70s recs.
Ramones

Not him, but I'm going to check some of these out. Thanks user!

For me, it's grunge. Fuck dressing up like every other punk try-hard and making it a fashion statement. Take the blackpill.

70's: The Stooges
80's: Infest
90's: Shotmaker
00's: Cut The Shit
10's: 1.6 Band (one-off reunion EPs technically count :) )
I haven't heard many bands I enjoy for about the past 15 years. They probably exist, but it gets harder for me to do research as I get older and less connected to smaller, fringier scenes.

So, you mean you prefer long greasy hair, black doc martens, plaid flannel shorts over tight t-shirts, and stubble over colorful hair, ripped shirts, leather spiky jackets, and plaid pants. Okay.

listen to this youtube.com/watch?v=xDTaGZVnZ60

eh, I like some of these, but I would've recommended Richard Hell & The Voidoids, DNA, Mink DeVille, Wire, Television, and Stiff Little Fingers

i meant like it was the best released punk album

>negative approach
yooo nice pick. I saw john brannon’s current band open up for dinosaur jr last year, he played a killer set but the crowd was full of nu-males who were damn near booing him. he was twice as angrier as he sounds in recording. dinosaur jr did a cover of one of their songs as an encore with brannon singing too, it was a great show.

Punk got really really stale to me after that. Even now I find it hard to listen to a lot of the bands I used to be obsessed with. A lot of it just seems childish as fuck in retrospect.
