I have a teal stripe. I think it's a bit cheaper than the other versions, and it also has an effects loop which makes it really versatile. If you get one, I highly recommend using it with an EQ pedal. Don't have any experience with the red stripe, but I think it's a bit more popular than the other versions. No idea how it would fare for metal, but honestly you probably can't go wrong with either.

Could be some different things going on here, but technically what you're doing is really the 'proper" technique. Could be a set up issue but I doubt it. You could try a headstock muter or something, but here's what I'm really thinking:
Joe Dart may also be running a noise gate when he plays live and that could also be what you're hearing (or rather lack thereof). So if he's got a high noise floor, it could be gone with something as simple as that. He's a great bass player, but focus on working on your own technique rather than what someone else is doing. Joe's secret isn't exactly secret, he's all oldschool funk players-Johnson, Edwards, etc. Look and listen to them and you'll see where he's getting it from.

I’ve never really had any complaints about the stock passives my 2006 LP custom, but recently I put an SA/SA/89 set in my Am. Strat Standard and i’m absolutely in love with the sound i get from the 89. Now I’m been tempted to do something similar for the LP but am worried about whether it’s worth it.

Only worth learning if you intend to do studio work. Even that is questionable.
I play guitar, bass and piano. Mainly piano.
So like, the guitar is unusual as very few guitarists can read to a high standard. Tabs are extremely common, as are chord charts (you know "C-7b5" "G7alt" etc). In my opinion, if you can get extremely fluent at reading chords and spend say, 4 weeks studying reading treble clef, that will be enough. Your ears will improve enough to fill in the gaps.
The only time reading real music will likely be if playing jazz off a chart in a jam session or something, and if you do as i say, youll be alright.
However, if you're interested in doing serious composing or ju5want to be a well rounded musician, you might as well learn to read. Just be aware you will be at a handicap. Almost all other instruments require reading skills from day 1 till death. They will literally be years ahead of you.
Improvise and create are 2 different things..

Buy Mark Levine's "jazz theory" book or get a pdf. It is excellent and covers both areas. Theory is the key to both. There are lots of other books on both subjects. You're not going to get much useful information on shill websites. They almost always cater to a very beginner level. Just Google books on composition and improvisation.
I play piano mainly BUT Mark Levine's famous "Jazz Piano" book translates really well to guitar. You've just got to figure out your own guitar inversions.

Use some common sense m8, if you're reverbing your signal prior to distorting it, it stands to reason your reverb will be distorted as well, and sound like poopoo. Same with delays. Isolated in the fx loops they're usually applied to the signal post distortion or whatever your amp is doing to it, reverbing the already processed signal prior to pushing to the speakers. If you want to sound like shit or play shoegaze never use your effects loop. Overdrive are a little bit different because many people use them to boost the signal prior to the amp in order to get more out of the amp, most metalheads with non shit tone will run an OD with zero gain and full tone as a clean boost to push their signal harder to break up naturally and not require as much gain

I like the Little Mark 800. They only sound good with their own cabs though. I have a Fender Bassman 4x10 Cab and it sounds like shit with the Markbass head even though the cab itself is amazing. The main issue I have with the Markbass stuff is that they don’t take pedals well at all (aside from octavers). Soon though I’m gonna get rid of my Markbass rig and stick with just my Fender setup. It kinda does everything.
I tried a gibson though, and I got triers remorse because I made that poor kid at guitar center get it down from the top row only to decide it was trash

I swear one moment I'll be all like aw yeh sweet i learnt this new lick, then i go to repeat it and my pick will miss the string cleanly by a country mile ffs. or i start attacking the strings harder and harder to avoid that happening. but that just seems to make everything more and more clumsy and shitty.

Sounds like you need to practice proper picking techinique instead of alternate picking. Do that first, then alternate picking. You lack the basics. Baby steps .
Buy a couple of cheap pedals first to get idea of what sounds D's you want and what pedals types work.best. then buy more sturdy pedals and when you have at least 4 buy a small board. I suggest, in this order. Tuner looper. Overdrive. Delay/echo.
If you're looking into overdrive pedals, buy the tube screamer mini. Best bang for the buck.
