it sounds like they didn't quite know what they wanted to do with the band, so all of their styles clashed to produce this eclectic, noisy, mess of an album.

to me, STGSTV had a quaint message behind it, and reflected that message through its abrasiveness to create a picture of stunning beauty and sorrow.

different user here. danse and hollinndagain are my favorite anco releases
i'm going to sound fucking pretentious but i think danse and hollinndagain are first and foremost noise albums. they're really abrasive and the sounds they manage to make and manipulate are what's catchy. i think the nostalgia part lingers in the background, even less than spirit.
what i think is nostalgic is the little jingles the songs revolve around, and some of the melodies.
essplode revolves around a melody buried under a loud frequency that sounds simliar to the swan call motif which you've probably heard before since so many fucking songs have stolen it. it just sounds "familiar" and they use the melody to make a really catchy song out of it. it's more noticable in the live versions, youtu.be
other stuff like bad crumbs/pride and fight sound like old electronic jingles you've probably heard from a computer or video game before.
i hope i didn't come across as too fucking retarded or really pulling for some sort of explanation.

i don't hear the "abrasiveness" everyone talks about, it actually sounds very calm and ruminating, organic to me. it's nostalgic in the same way most anco albums are for me, i just think it should be high up because from my perspective, it does a much better job of expressing anco's themes than most of their other albums.
