What is the earliest something can be considered dadrock? Or is it less an age thing and more of a content/artist thing?

20 years at least, but usually dadrock is rather bland, stale with nothing too edgy or interesting about it unless you are middle-aged and presumably a father.

>ITAOTS is dadrock

doesn’t have to do with the age. for example the Beatles or Pink Floyd are not dad rock. dadrock is defined by an irrational attachment to generic garbage rap such as Nickelback

That's buttrock, man. Get it right.

Beatles and Pink Floyd at this point are grandpa-core.

Whatever People Say I Am Is What I'm Not

Hmmm, it's hard to say sometimes and it's painted with a broad brush, but the music is usually more than 20 years old and has an appeal to men in their 40s and up.

I agree with this, it's hard to call The Beatles dad rock as people of all ages listen to their stuff. Same with Nirvana, being from the early 90s and it's hard not to see young teenage girls praising Cobain as one of their favourites.

Dad rock is usually corny. That's how I want to define it - for an older crowd and corny for the most part. And the quintessential dad rock band has to be Led Zeppelin.

Some dad rock is pretty nice, though.

Beatles last album was released almost 50 years ago.

This hurt me so much.

Beatles are oldies now, they're barely even considered rock by most people
I dunno about bland. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, CCR, KISS, AC/DC are all dadrock and they all have strong character. Nirvana is entering the annals of dadrock because of how famous they got.
What are Coldplay and Radiohead at this point? Mom rock? Or as Christgau put it, dinner table music?

literally everything from cavemen banging on rocks with sticks until LMFAOs party rock anthem(not including) is dadrock

Will the White Stripes ever be considered dadrock? How about Black Keys?

my dad loves radiohead and bach, qed both are dadrock

Party Rockers is nu-dad anthem.

QOTSA/Boomers of Death Metal are dadrock as fuck.

I can't wait until I Just Had Sex is considered dadrock

2012

How about the Doors? They occupy this middle space in pop culture where a certain cachet of Dads like the hits but they are also weird enough to draw the stoner kid audience. Is this dadrock?

Dadrock isn't defined by any timeline, it's an aesthetic reflected in the tastes of bland suburban dads.

This. (((They))) even tried to recapture some dadrock shekels in the early oughts by pushing bads like Jet and The Darkness.
