Those are two entirely different things.
The fact that the picture in the OP is of someone who's been dead for 25 years is pretty good proof of the latter being true.
rock is obsolete, rap took the image and metal has progressed to a point where rock isn't really a valid form edgy musik
nobody wants it to die. but it's like when your family dog gets real old and weak and can't write interesting songs any more. it's better to take him out back and shoot him rather than let it try post-punk revival revival
In which way, shape, and form does Hip hop take the image of rock? The “shocking” image? The “rebellious” nature?
90% of rock is just some pussy whining over a generic derivative tune. “TWANG TWANG LOVE AND SHIT” nobody gives a fuck. rockfags act all pretentious when it comes to country and hip hop but honestly it has such a garbage track record solely because it overstated its welcome for 3 whole decades because record companies shoved it down everyone’s throats. that’s not to say there isn’t good rock, but it’s few and far between, and very difficult to find anything both good and original through the mountains of shitposting fanboys MTV brainwashed.
>The “shocking” image? The “rebellious” nature?
yeah pretty much this, rock is grandpa's music at this point
Rock is dead
The last Rock band worth a damn was MCR and they broke up in 2013
Hip hop is in no way shape or form rebellious or “cool”. It’s just a bunch of people in ridiculous fashion who think the U.S. systematically oppresses their black ass. But dumb kids buy it anyways because they’re afraid to even remotely resemble their parents(as if music makes you any different from your parents).
Also, does rock being “grandpa” music label it “dead”? That’s such a bullshit argument. Is Jazz all of a sudden dead because it doesn’t compete with Igor on the charts? A genre’s relevance doesn’t control its life.
There's still Queens Of The Stone Age
Royal Blood was supposed to help but they haven’t done anything crazy as of late.
Greta Van Fleet is just shit.
>Hip hop is in no way shape or form rebellious or “cool”
tell that to all of the masses of people who consume it
>Also, does rock being “grandpa” music label it “dead”?
No, but rock hasn't really progressed that far when compared to the popular genres of today. Rock worships the greats and, as a consequence, has veered off the same path it's been on. Rap, in mainstream circles on the other hand, has a pretty flagrant disrespect for the all-time greats and is constantly innovating, regardless if it's good or not.
>Jazz all of a sudden dead because it doesn’t compete with Igor on the charts?
Jazz isn't dead in the same sense that extreme metal is dead, both have their niche groups and are constantly evolving
~has not*** veered*
~extreme metal isn't*** dead
thought I knew how to type
Theyre not really in the mainstream anymore though
Theyve become every other rock band thats been around a long time and can ride their fanbase to the end of time even if Villains turns out to be their last album
>Rap, in mainstream circles on the other hand, has a pretty flagrant disrespect for the all-time greats and is constantly innovating, regardless if it’s good or not.
How does rap “disrespect” all-time greats? I thought rap was supposed to be the new all-time great? Even if they did, what’s the point? They’re not proving anything by disrespecting “all-time greats”
And don’t make me laugh on calling rap innovative in “mainstream circles” when half the rap songs on the charts sound the damn same. Save maybe Tyler, the Creator.
Ever heard of nwa, retard? Rock protects the status quo, hip hop didn't
>when half the rap songs on the charts sound the damn same.
Wow, it's like mainstream music is normie shit, just like rock
>Rock protects the status quo
What the fuck was punk rock and grunge then? The Sex Pistols were so blatantly offensive they were banned off of BBC. Grunge’s whole principal was built off of being yourself until major labels gave it the magic touch of shit. It was labels that made rock how conformist it is today
Rock is rebellious and always has been, especially against consumerism and conformity. What was Woodstock’s whole festival about? Protesting the Vietnam War. Don’t call rock conformist when labels were the ones that made it conformist in the first place.
>How does rap “disrespect” all-time greats?...
By greats I'm referring to classic artists who've laid a foundation for the genre. Rap is competitive in that artists are always looking for the next "cutting-edge" sound. Just look at all of the various trends that have come and gone in a matter of only a few years.
>And don’t make me laugh on calling rap innovative in “mainstream circles”...
Whether you like it or not, there wouldn't be the current "new school of rappers" w/o the like of chief keef, waka, etc.
>Save maybe Tyler, the Creator.

Music in general has been on a steep decline since the early 90's
It reminds them their deadbeat fathers.
And NWA wasn't rebellious?
there’s a reason MTV refused to play NWA while Metal was on full blast, and it has nothing to do with their taste
It seems like normal girls stopped listening to rock entirely.
Rock hasn't truly dominated the charts since 1985. Even then, most of this was British invasion acts, hybrid acts like Prince, and glam metal.
Even by 1985 people in cities were listening to hip hop and things like freestyle. R&B and hip hop dominated the 1990s
>late 70s
>no disco nor dance represented in chart
