Let's play the Jim O'Rourke game

let's play the Jim O'Rourke game

Name an album/artist, me and other anons will try to link him to it.

I just want to prove a point that his footprints are all over music, so yeah. Good luck!

Beethoven

Jeff Koons

thurston moore does guitars for a jandek cover of "painted my teeth," o'rourke did a lot w sonic youth

his version of Something Big my actually be my favorite song of all time

Jim O'Rourke - Halfway to a Threeway

thurston moore is a fucking retard though

Does anyone have the Yapoos liner notes he wrote?

a classical composer, he and sonic youth did a ton of classical covers on the SYR series

that's a hard one

remember that album he dropped a couple years ago that was mixed bad lol

>Band
Blonde Redhead

I imagine he does. Just wondering if you know.

Simple songs?
It has the best mix i've ever heard, period. Works great on a stereo system, play it loud. I think he even advises to do so in the liner notes

I remember when anons tried similar game with Brian Eno, that was fun

Anyway, Chris Barnes

I have a specific connection in mind but there might be multiple. I just want to see if others know it lol.

Steve Shelley plays the drums on a couple of her records. He was also the drummer for Sonic Youth. You know who also used to be in Sonic Youth? The Man.

Ween

Cannibal Corpse toured with Slayer. Mike Patton is a huge Slayer fan. He is featured on a Melt-Banana album, who come from Tokyo. Otomo Yoshihide is also from Tokyo, and he did a number of covers of Jim O'Rourke's Eureka.

(they are mind-blowing!)

Louis armstrong

Chris Shaw mastered Quebec, and he is also credited as an engineer on Wilco's A Ghost Is Born. This album has a lot of Jim in it.

Louis has a collaborative record with Ella Fitzgerald. She sang a few Burt Bacharach songs, and you know who also did a Burt cover? Jim.

Doesn't matter that he's everywhere if he sounds like shit

Candy Claws

So is their no connection with this band? I'm still waiting OP.

They come from Steve Shelley's label.

Deathspell Omega

Rudimentary Peni

that's a hard one.
they are on a label founded by Crass. Crass' basist, Pete Wright, is on a compilation called Les mystères des voix vulgaires. This compilation also features a great ambient musician, Gigi Masin. He collaborated with Charles Hayward, one of the masterminds behind This Heat. Charles Hayward has a collab with Thurston Moore. That does it. Phew.

boyboy west coast

Mixed by Serban Ghenea, who also mixed Earth by Lil Dicky. This song features Miley Cyrus, who apparently collaborated with the Flaming Lips. They share a label with Ween.

see here

>and he did a number of covers of Jim O'Rourke's Eureka
He did a lot more with O'Rourke than just that.

true! I just find these variations fascinating and worth sharing. Otomo Yoshihide is know here only because of that onkyo album avant-teens used to love, and not much else. Ground Zero is never mentioned here, at all.

btw, do you know about MC Hellshit & DJ Carhouse? that's a collab between him and Yamatsuka Eye, and it's batshit crazy.

The Beatles

Good job

>Ground Zero is never mentioned here, at all.
Revolutionary Peking Opera is posted from time to time here

Lauris Reiniks

>I just want to prove a point that his footprints are all over music, so yeah
six degrees of someone =/= footprints

>MC Hellshit & DJ Carhouse
I do. I was huge into Boredoms about a year ago and binged all their side projects. Otomo Yoshihide needs more attention here for sure.

Cromagnon

ESP published their album, and they have a huge avant-garde jazz catalogue. I'm going to point out Pharoah Sanders. He is a friend of John Coltrane, who is a friend of Eric Dolphy. Otomo Yoshihide's jazz band did a tribute album to his masterwork, Out To Lunch. You know where it goes from here.

why would you remind me of him? how do you know i'm from riga? āāāāāāāāāāāāāāā

They were influenced by The Beach Boys when making Sgt Pepper, and Jim did a cover of a Beach Boys' song.

(It's a fun tribute comp)

Rusty is mastered by Brian McMahan, guitarist of Slint and Squirrel Bait. David Grubbs was the vocalist for Squirrel Bait. He's also a good friend of Jim, and a frequent collaborator. His most famous project with Jim is Gastr del Sol.

delet this

Pärson Sound
Good thread by the way, already liked this with Brian Eno

okay, fuck you, i'm doing this.
I think Lauris Reiniks did something with Raimonds Pauls. His song 'A million of red roses' was featured in the cartoon Nu Pogodi. There is a punk band called Nu, Pogodi!, and they come from Leeds. Soft Cell are also from Leeds. They share a label with Foetus. Foetus have a split ep with Stereolab (and Faust)

JIM PRODUCED A THREE STEREOLAB ALBUMS

FUCK YOU

Bo Anders Persson, the vocalist, has a split with an avant-garde composer named Folke Rabe. He is featured on a dj mix by Zola Jesus (thank you RYM). She is in a band with Jamie Stewart, called Former Ghosts. Jamie did a collab with Merzbow. Jim also did a collab with Merz, titled Flying Basket.

yeah but what does the punk band have anything to do with the cartoon? okay desu. you did good.

same name, eh, thanks
i don't think you can make a better connection though

im sure you can dig deeper into russian underground bands and somehow come out into jim. that's like master difficulty tho.

Okay, so after some digging, i fount that nu pogodi features a song by a surf rock band, the Ventures. Their songs were covered by Man or Astro-Man?, a surf-punk band from the 90's. This band is featured on a comp, 2000 Touch and Go / Quarterstick Records Sampler, where my favourite band Storm And Stress is featured as well. Their first album was recorded by Steve Albini, and their second album was recorded by Jim O'Fucking-Rourke.
