I'm an unironic Marxist-Leninist and I think their politics are embarrassing
Their Spotify bio is pretentious but the rabbit album made me shed a tear so I guess they're fine.
no more tears, no more cryin'
peaked around knife man then really dropped off from christmas island onwards, rabbit album and can't maintain are both solid folk punk albums
I think they're amazing, Every album minus their very first (not People eat people) is great.
If you don't take them seriously they're okay. If you take them seriously, it's absolutely embarrassing and terrible music. I listen to them the same way I listen to weird al.
This is true, plus that album they did with Ghost Mice is some of their best stuff.
I can't stand the whiny singing. I image some basedboy behind the mic whenever I hear them.
I think they're pussies for changing their name, but still not as bad as Teen Suicide becoming American Pleasure Club.
/thread/
Haven't heard it.
when they were local they were cool but they're slowly giving in to the man and becoming stagnant
Their name change triggered all the conservative nazis. That automatically makes them punk as fuck.
I really liked them when I was younger and even then I found "American tune" to be cringey (I don't know how the fuck did I even like them then considering I was an edgy larping braindea conserv then but eh who knows) . They're good when they're not talking about politics too much
Not quite the same, I'd moved on but their older stuff is striking a cord with me again.
yeah, maybe if you consider laughing at a punk band for changing their very slightly controversial name in order not to offend anyone
I only listen to the rabbit album, which I really like. I don't find anything embarrassing about the "politics" on it; what are they like on other albums?
[Verse 1]
I am white
And I've got everything I need
No one clutches their purses when they're in a room alone with me
And I can drive through any neighborhood I please
At any hour, and the police don't do a thing
[Hook]
So if I see a penny on the ground
I leave it alone or fucking flip it
I'm a straight white male in America
I've got all the luck I need
[Verse 2]
I'm a guy getting paid more than a girl with a degree
And I can walk down the streets after dark
No one wants to rape me
And I can get a girl pregnant
And just as easily flee
Just like my straight white male dad did to me
[Hook]
So if I see a penny on the ground
I leave it alone or fucking flip it
I'm a straight white male in America
I've got all the luck I need
[Verse 3]
I've got a pile of broken mirrors
And I'm walking under ladders
And I'm spilling tons of salt because to me that doesn't matter
Because my skin and my gender and my orientation
Are the best things to have when you live in this nation
I recommend it highly
Imagine making a career whining about how hard your life is, just to turn around and whine that it was too easy lmao pottery
When does the new album drop baka they’re slacking
So nothing on the rabbit album?
Those lyrics don't really offend me because I'm not a /pol/ poster who pretends prejudice isn't a thing.
>doesn't pretend prejudice isn't a thing
>accepts prejudice against white people
uh, ok
it's just funny and hypocritical from people who write shit like
[Outro]
And I give a thank-you to my father for not raising me
And I give a finger to my step-father for beating me
And I give props to myself for achieving
And god damn, I'm glad that I survived
And god damn, I'm surprised that I survived
like, is your life privileged and easy, or hard and worth singing about, it pretty much invalidates the entire only good album they ever made to turn around and be like "jk, we're white and never struggled and were just lying about all that shit on the earlier records"
> And I can get a girl pregnant
> And just as easily flee
> Just like my straight white male dad did to me
So what is it, AJJ? Is your life easy because you’re white or is it not? Make up your fucking mind, you cucks.
Ya i dont identify
That’s not what he’s saying. You realise you can acknowledge that white men have inherent advantages over black women without also meaning a white man can’t struggle, right?
why did you let us know this
To be fair, the next line of that song is
"I just handed you a giant load of gibberish".
But yeah, American Tune is hot garbage, as is everything they recorded after the second album.
[Verse 1]
I am white
And I've got everything I need
...
I'm a straight white male in America
I've got all the luck I need
It doesn't seem like that's their perspective desu. Not a whole lot left up to interpretation in those lyrics.
yeah, and I like that song, and the whole rabbit album. I just find it hilarious that anyone would consider anything have to say as original interesting, even before they decided to become tumblr: the band. Like the user above said, they're best listened to as the weird al of "folk punk".
Yes, there is. You’re being really dense if you think the moral of the story is “every white person is happy”. You are lucky to be white in America and you are less likely to be victimised as a man than a woman. These aren’t political statements, they’re just facts.
you're completely missing the point dude, I don't give two fucks about their or your politics, or what you or they or i think of white privilege, it just comes across in their case as corny, disingenuous, contrived, and ham fisted. they made their career crying, and crying, and crying, and now they're crying about how easy they have it. whether it's in comparison to other peoples struggles or not, it's an absolutely banal choice to make artistically. writing entire albums of how bleak and depressing the world is, but jk not for us. it's honestly comes across as bragging, as jerking themselves off about how great it is to be white, and how they simultaneously get to have it so easy, and still cry, cry cry. musically, they're grating enough as it is, and previously atleast approached their lyrics with a bit of wit or bleak humor to them, lyrics like that are low-effort, require very little imagination, and read like a tumblr haiku. I can objectively say, those lyrics are weak, and their new music is weak. inb4
>you just don't like it cuz you're from /pol/ go back to /pol/
also, you can't tell me in complete honesty there are no daft political statements in those lyrics when they make an explicit reference to a political issue like the gender wage gap, which has been repeatedly and conclusively debunked. which is, as you say, not a political statement, but a fact. multivariable analysis has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, the gender pay gap doesn't exist. so you're selectively choosing which of their political statements to interpret in a way that makes you more comfortable with their music, even though it's very clear to everyone else, exactly what they're saying. and it's extremely hypocritical, and stinks of opportunism. if they cared about literally any of this they could have addressed it at any point in their careers, but they seemingly chose to do so when it became profitable and mainstream to do so. very not punk.
This is irony you dips
What's ironic about it?
The irony is despite having all of the so called benifits of being straight and white, you still have to bumble and fight through life. See the next track on the album
I listened to the rabbit album. The lyrics were mostly cringeworthy, but I liked the instrumentals, it was pretty fun to listen to
[Verse 1]
I am black
And I've got everything I need
No one cares or bats an eye when I make other people bleed
And I can go to college where they reserve me a seat
Regardless if I make straight A's or B's
[Hook]
So if I see a penny on the ground
I'll probably steal it or stick up my nose at it
I'm a straight black male in America
I've got all the luck I need
[Verse 2]
I'm a girl getting getting 9 months off of work completely free
And I just had to lay down on my back
No one wants to fight me
And I can say whatever I want
And men will just protect me
Regardless if the problem was caused by me
[Hook]
So if I see a penny on the ground
I leave it alone or fucking flip it
I'm a straight normal female in America
I've got all the luck I need
[Verse 3]
I've got a pile of broken mirrors
And I'm walking under ladders
And I'm causing problems because to me that doesn't matter
Because my skin and my gender and my orientation
Are the only things that matter to anyone in this nation
I recommend social services highly
American tune is based and is pleb filter
it’s a reverse appeal to ethos you fucking retard. he’s clearly saying even he, a low IQ commie, finds their politics retarded, so they must be
They should stop trying to ape Neutral Milk Hotel's sound, it's fucking stupid
pretty decent for chainsmoking teen girl music
drink beer!
