what humbucker would you recommend for a guitar with no tone control?
looking for a decent country sound that can get dirty without being ear piercing
Anthony Allen
Get a job, buy a Gibson and thank me later
Charles Kelly
I'd recommend an EQ pedal, silly goose. Or like, turn the treble knob on your amp down. In any case, >humbucker >country Most country tones are single coils on Telecasters. You might like the Eric Johnson DiMarzios, though.
Definitely a Filtertron type of pickup. I would go for a TV Jones Supertron, but they have a lot of options that would fit your taste.
Christian Myers
the thing is though, i think as far as online options go, ebay and reverb are actually really good
you buy directly from dealers or owners, they take a pretty small cut
personally i only use amazon for things like bulk picks or strings, if i want something i check reverb because theyre more likely to have a good deal (i also really like buying modded gear and that stuff is usually cheap as hell) im getting a new pickup anyway, so im just looking for some input here, got an eq pedal already that i use as a mid boost, will try playing around with that regardless
what i really play is jangly punk with some fingerpicked solos, so i dont need heavy metal tones but id like a decent amount of warmth
William Young
im also thinking about going humbucker-sized p90 to make it a fake les paul jr
Hunter King
Don't get Juszkiewicz'ed.
Be a fiend with a Dean.
Daniel Richardson
>Reverb for good & cheap accessories You don't lie. I just bought a strap and instrument cables there.
Wyatt Rogers
>what i really play is jangly punk with some fingerpicked solos, so i dont need heavy metal tones but id like a decent amount of warmth Filtertrons, dude. Filtertrons. Or something like them.
Cooper Barnes
Oh sure I love reverb I live right buy the Chicago music exchange which is the company that reverb grew out of it's fucking rad being able to buy and sell stuff without the hassle of going into a store it's also so much easier getting your money back on stuff you regret buying I've sold about 3 or 4 pedals and have pretty much just lost out on shipping fees but made everything else back
These are rebranded Artec, so they're Korean, not Chinese. Artec makes good, cheap pickups. GFS sells their pickups for a slightly higher markup and significantly higher shipping prices.
Hudson Sullivan
There's two of us recommending the Filtertrons. I recommended the EJs, then recommended the Filtertrons, then you said the word "jangly" and I'm like, yep, Filtertrons. That's what you want. They're jangly as shit.
Bentley Harris
Are those actual filtertron style pickups though. I always felt like they were just rehoused generic humbuckers like what comes in the cheap Gretsches.
>gonna buy first set of new strings tomorrow >figure I'll fuck around with the ones I have just to see what I can get away with >try all sorts of wacky tunings >tune down super low >discover how to play Into the Void fuck me I love the guitar so god damn much, I have finals tomorrow but I couldn't give a fuck, having way too much fun
Gibsons aren't expensive but there are better uses for your money
You don't have the buy the most expensive guitar you can afford just to prove that you have a job. The vast majority of "high end" guitars are no better than $600 korean shit because solidbody guitars are just solid wooden holders for the tuners, frets, bridge and pickups and there's little room for shit like tuning the soundboard and backboard like there is with acoustics. All you have to do is grab a good, solid chunk of wood and age it properly - or don't even fucking use wood.
But if I bought the most expensive shit I could I'd own two customs from T's guitars, each emblazoned with vinyl prints of my two favorite anime chicks, not some overweight, poorly designed fashion accessory for people trying to recreate the 60s.
post the most expensive guitar you could realistically afford right now without resorting to loans or dipping into non-guitar-related savings funds
do you even have a job tier: anything under $1000 (MIM, MIK, MIC) poverty tier: $1000-1500 (eg: MIA fender) poorfag tier: $1500-3000 (most gibsons, suhr) finances in order but you could do better tier: $3000-6000 (higher end of ESP, gibson, suhr, etc) savvy and successful tier: $6000-$10000 (one-offs and collectibles) wealthy tier: $100000+ (collectibles only past this point) richfag tier: $20,000+
sheet music was meant for pianos hence it not being a rational system where every step up the staff is a true whole step, and instead being arranged so each step up the staff is the next note in the key of C major/A minor and deviations from this system are "accidental"
it's awkward to apply to any other instruments but especially to guitars, since they're capable of 6-8 note polyphony and aren't tuned to an easy interval like 5ths. it's basically tabs for pianists but a complex mental exercise in transcription for guitarists.
it's not a coincidence or a joke that guitarists don't use it if they don't have to, or unless they're being pretentious for its own sake (classical/jazz)
Lincoln Ward
Yeah but if you take the time to learn it you get to claim to be more intelligent than everyone else
Christian Brown
If you learn it you become more intelligent, not just claiming
Ethan Evans
>implying sheet music and pianos aren't both based on the same tonal system that dominated the musical world in which they were created.
Gabriel Ross
I would recoil in horror but glass houses y'know?
Jacob Moore
How long you've been playing user?.
Grayson Allen
Excellent. I'll start right away
Aaron Rogers
If you learn it you've proved you had the general intelligence required to learn it, that's all. But that's like buying a $2500 gibson to prove you're rich enough to buy a $2500 gibson.
You could do more useful things with your finite number of neurons. Maybe learn a skill that's relevant to the economy.
Colton Sanders
Also opening up a huge world of written music to you in a way that makes it easy to understand how it was conceptualized by its composer
Justin Taylor
it's all been transcribed to tabs by now and if it hasn't you can do that without actually knowing it well enough to try and sight read
i "know" sheet music but I can't sight read worth shit unless it's a keyboard
Landon Sanders
>in a way that makes it easy to understand how it was conceptualized by its composer Nice job not even reading half my post. Chill dude.
Brody Nguyen
>easy to understand how it was conceptualized by its composer except that's exactly what you're losing when transcribing it to an instrument like the guitar
there's really no point to sheet music for guitar. either learn it by ear or get a tab
Wyatt Williams
There are reasons to try to understand what you're hearing other than just being able to play it on guitar.
Michael Carter
I already told you I can read it, I just can't sight read for guitar because I've never even bothered practicing it. I get it though, sheet music looks like a graph of pitch against time and and tabs look like block shapes. It's just a really shitty graph of pitch against time since it's specialized for a narrow selection of instruments and only half decent for others that belong to the same tradition.
I only know it for piano's sake, and transcribing shit to tabs because music for guitar is meant to be written as tabs (and then you should know which notes are on which spots by now).
Parker Nguyen
Based
Gavin Bailey
You're missing what I'm saying. It's not always about sight reading for guitar. It makes it easier to process more musical information visibly and that's valuable.
Jaxson Ortiz
I study fugues and only play guitar for fun (riffing aimlessly). I know what you're talking about, but I don't think it's intuitive enough to guitarists to be valuable and will help you understand how music was arranged or composed *for the guitar*. You can look at G D Bb A G Bb A G F# A D all day but you don't understand until you play it and suddenly the sheet music IS the piano. You just don't get that using sheet music for a guitar. It's a transcription, it's cold and soulless. You can pick out voices by eye easier than you can with tabs and articulate accordingly but that's it for guitar.
Go ahead and figure out all the ways you can fit that ditty on a fretboard now
Dominic Rogers
Stop being retarded and play PRS. Literally not a single other guitar company gives a fuck about their shit under $1k.
Landon Reed
50% snake oil 50% high grade figured tops
solid body guitars don't sound or play better over $1k, they just look better
Cooper Cruz
That's what I'm saying. If you're paying over $1k you're paying for bullshit. If you're buying under $1k, PRS is easily the best choice. Best neck shape, most reliable electronics, best balance, and all the features youd expect in a nicer guitar except locking tuners. Gibson is by far one of the shittiest, with fender and Ibanez coming close. Schecter and ESP honestly make good pieces for the money, but a lot of them are awful to look at. Dean and jackson, stay the fuck away, absolute garbage, literally worse than Agile
Nathaniel Cox
fuck you faggot i play a USA Jackson that retails for $3k
Jeremiah Williams
i hate prs necks and their neck heels, don't like their electronics, and think they're ugly as fuck
also a shitload of dean and jackson is made in the same factory as schecter to the same price point just saying. they even have identical headstocks, necks, and neck joints sometimes.
Dylan Nguyen
You're a retard then and wasted your money. I'd say sorry, but you deserve it. And before you even try and defend its features, literally every brand can and does make a similar or better guitar with the same features for less. You quite literally and unironically burned cash for nothing.
Jordan Gray
You're thinking of ESP m8, schecter and those other trash brands have quite literally nothing in common. What's your favorite neck type then? If you say fender I'll know not to ever read any post you make ever again. If you say wizard or wizard 2, slightly based, but even Mario camarena doesn't have a wizard neck on his signature Ibanez so, enjoy your hand cramps.
Jeremiah Bell
i didn't say i paid $3k for it. i actually got it used for about $1k. its top tier in literally every aspect, and i've never added or made a single modification because it's perfect.
enjoy your shit korean fender ripoff fag
Ian Jackson
Wizard 2, for the manlet hand.
Sebastian Richardson
Even 1k you got completely ripped off bud. Also you have the ugliest head stock known to man. Go play hockey with your 1k piece of shit.
Based until you finish middle school and start playing for real. I cant think of a single good guitar player that started on a wizard neck and stayed playing wizards, except for some tech death dudes who don't do a whole lot of chord shapes anyways.
Julian Clark
Does intonation matter at all
Ryder Morris
started in February, bought a semihollow ibanez on craigslist for $200 and a $50 fender amp on ebay. been jamming out for 10mins-3hours just about every day (usually only about 15 minutes a day because college)
whats wrong with agile? looking at their specs, the guitars seem really nice, feels good in the hand too, just a bit heavy
Alexander Ortiz
which headstock do i have, since you're so smart
also keep seething poorfag. guarantee you have some piece of shit bolt-on with shit-tier wood, electronics, and a garbage bridge like a tune-o-matic or something. lol queer
Brody Cox
can I see it? the only jacksons ive heard of that are ~3k are super duper og rhoads Vs, I am genuinely curious
Ayden Campbell
Any advice for a beginner bass and amp? Are the Squier start packs any good?
Jason Rodriguez
tune o matics are the best fixed bridges sorry m8 try again
you don't need a bass amp. your fruity loops guy has that covered.
all the USA made jacksons start at around $3k. these are literally the same guitars that international touring acts play. hence, why i haven't made any modifications to mine
>fixed bridge oh no its retarded
Julian Green
Yes, everyone who has ears can tell your shit sounds awful.
Their electronics and build quality are sub par. Not that it's horrible for the price, my 8 string is an Agile, but their soldering and wiring is usually shit, had to redo all of it after only a year on mine. Also their double truss rods aren't great either, but that's a niche issue.
I play a PRS SE Custom 24 30th anniversary edition with a beautiful sea green flame maple top, locking tuners, flawless solder and neck through. $500. Cope harder, invariably rich fags like you cant play for shit anyways.
Wizard necks will cause your shit to cramp up eventually, trust me
Colton Roberts
>links to the website instead of just posting his guitar Oh so you're just trolling, ok.
Grayson Hughes
you can get a japan made schecter for half that and get a better guitar.
Oliver Roberts
>invariably rich fags like you cant play for shit anyways yikes, m8. i play in a touring band and we're signed onto a record label. also, didn't you read my post where i said i only paid about $1k? cope harder though fag. enjoy playing your shit korean guitar (i looked it up and my initial guess was right lmao) in your bedroom though
the guitar i have is on the website, i don't need to tell you anymore.
no you cant but ok
Thomas Rodriguez
Hes just LARPing, or he would've posted it with timestamps so we could all ridicule him for wasting his money in unison.
Aaron Ortiz
>I have a 3k guitar >Jk I got it for 1k >but I'm not gonna show it to you >Cuz I'm totally in a band >and we're totally signed My dad works for Nintendo
Parker Sanders
seething. im not going to risk getting doxxed by proving wrong a bunch of weebs who can't play for shit anyways
Jayden Young
>you can see my guitar on the website >but I wont post it with a timestamps cuz I'll get doxxed >just believe me bro I'm in a band >and we're totally signed >and tour >and I paid a third the price My dads an astronaut
Anthony Robinson
inb4 he played noise rock for a stoner meet once
Cooper Stewart
>yeah my band played a talent show we're pretty big But that's not tou- >it was at a different school Oh ok
Connor Wright
im going to give you one more (You)
USA Jackson SL1 is listed at $4k on their website, but i was able to find one on craigslist for less than a third of the price. sometimes these things are possible. the more you know!
most of the price is shit like the flame neck just saying
Dominic Lee
And the quartersawn neck. Because some sucker out there thinks it has more sustain than a multi-piece neck.
Dominic Edwards
Should I get a delay and reverb combo pedal or delay and looper pedal combo? I cant decide, been looking at grand canyon and a boss rv3 How do you /gg/uys use the ditto when it only has 1 knob? Id prolly have trouble memorizing the taps and holds
Carter Brooks
My dad works at Nintendo
Personally, I'd say delay/looper, but that's because I'm a DL4 fag.
>fruity loops guy Is there some kind of retarded inside joke between shitposters that I'm missing or what
Jordan Price
>he only owns a headstock
lmao this guy
Nolan Garcia
:^)
Michael Wilson
gotta say, if not for that headstock shape, Id be all over a jackson soloist, shit feels great
John Cruz
Seriously though it's the 30th anniversary edition. Guitar center had it used and thought it was a regular SE and listed it for 500. Probably my favorite guitar I've owned so far, once I realized that paying over a grand is a complete waste of money I sold my expensive shit and bought this and an axe fx.
Cameron Foster
Are there and good jazz guitar albums on clean solid body guitars?
Hunter Jenkins
Not really, check out Ed Bickert i guess. He played a tele for all of his career.
Isaac Evans
Lmao I fucking called it, this nigga out here playing a hockey stick
Wyatt Stewart
>axe FX >not a kemper live the lawyer meme
Brody Torres
Desu I would've been happy with either, just got the axe fx for a better deal
Complete beginner here. I am most interested in learning electric guitar and getting good with pedals/distortion effects aka making shoegaze like music. However, Inhave a hand me down acoustic that isn't bad at all but it's obviously not electric. Should I save money and learn the basics on the acoustic and then get an electric guitar, or should I just go ahead and get an electric guitar right away? thanks
Just get an electric if you want to play those styles. Most shoegaze guitarists can't even play guitar, they just play pedals.
Kevin Nelson
>I can only post the headstock bro or I'll get doxxed bro I'm famous believe me bro Ok ya got me, you've now officially proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you completely wasted your money lmao
Nathaniel Morris
the made in USA looks shooped
Elijah Torres
Get the feel for it on acoustic and then transition to electric. Also buy a used Squier Classic Vibe Strat or something and a decent used amp.
Dylan Russell
big cope. please just admit that you got btfo by someone who actually plays in front of an audience
>axe fx
Lmao I fucking called it, this nigga out here playing in his bedroom
Chase James
acoustic and electric are completely different to play
get the one you actually want also play more than just fender's budget line and remember tube preamp section = the one true path but tube power section = doesn't matter as long as you have 100w.
bedroom players buy cheapo noisy pedals and play on laptops
Hudson James
if you want to play an electric then get one and start there. this whole "muh basics" on an acoustic is and outdated boomer meme
Joshua Carter
I think I'll learn some basic chords and play some simple songs and then get an electric guitar. Might as well take advantage of the "free" guitar lol
Nolan Jackson
that works, might as well get your fingers moving sooner rather than later.
Jack Myers
>trust me dudes this isn't my dads guitar I'm famous and shit >axe fx are for bedroom players dude that's why polyphia uses them and btbam and shitloads of other famous people >I'd know because I'm famous Alright man geeze we get it you're famous and that means you're good at guitar like nickelback and lil Wayne
Christopher Morgan
absolutely seething
i should consider posting timestamps more often to btfo more people lol
Logan Thomas
post timestamp with the entire guitar
it's okay even if you do tour everyone familiar with your metal act already expected you to be a smug shithead on Yea Forums
David Price
You've proven you own an overpriced guitar, with the ugliest headstock outside of BC rich, so, I wouldn't say seething. But ya did get my ass as far as owning it I'll admit that much, nice one. Post the rest of your rig
Samuel Miller
any one know what oren ambarchi's technique is based on?
Julian Smith
He mostly works with pedals, doesn't really do anything interesting from a pure guitar standpoint. Get a looper, reverb and a ring mod and you can duplicate most of what he does
Luke Ross
Hes not gonna do it bro didn't you read hes fucking famous bro that's why daddy wont let him post touch the guitar to take an actual picture
Camden Turner
will give it a go nice one
Jackson Young
Who the fuck cares what guitar you play? Use what works for your stage and genre. I'm not bringing a 3k piece to play intense pop when I can't replace it easily on the road. There's a reason for ubiquitous quality guitars in the 500-range. Walk into a store and quickly replace your axes. They're tools, not prized possessions...
Jace Fisher
I think I mentioned this a while back. Most of the bands I play with still have these super nice expensive guitars and all, but they still prefer playing cheap guitars live because they don't want to risk damaging their pride and joy or their expensive custom shops. No one really cares what you play as long as you sound good
Liam Wilson
>his guitar isn't so expensive and rare that merely posting it would alert the world to how famous you are Never gonna make it
William White
Some of them are pretty fucking nice
Adjust the truss rod once, you're done for life (if it even needs one), shit never goes out of tune, no hum, no buzz, no scratchy noises, sustain for days, that kind of thing
I'm describing a metal/plastic guitar with EMGs by the way
Henry Thompson
Shut up d00d this is 4chinz where money spent=skill earned keep up. Anything less than 3k on your axe and 5k on your amp and you literally may as well not play
Jaxson Anderson
nah this is 4chinz where ex-losers fresh out of high school are desperate to larp as the ridiculous caricatures of successful adults they have thought up
that's me, i'm one of them
my guitar was $4000, a telecaster (a real man's guitar), my amp is a fender tone king (an amp for adults), i drive a mustang with a v8 (an AMERICAN brand, because i love america now, and an engine for mature adult heterosexual non-pedophile men such as myself), and i like big titty because that's what a man oughtta!
to think just a few years ago before i turned 18 i was an anime watching pedophile that wanted to drive a honda and play an ibanez
Nolan Johnson
You're so fucking mad about that headstock pic aren't you lmao
Lincoln Brown
your headstock is obvious metalhead stuff i think you're probably 13 at the oldest or just really fat and ugly
get a fender or a gibson like an adult with a job (i am an adult with a job, trust me)
Mason Howard
Kek I'm still the PRS nigga I'm just fuckin around. I don't know where jackson brah went, think he got his keks in after flashing his wallet and bounced. Cant blame him, still think Jackson's are pieces of shit though. I've never held one I've liked, their neck profiles feel weird and their hardware is usually sub par. I'm sure a 3k one is nice, but I'm never spending that kind of money on a guitar, ever, unless I end up rich. But even then I don't know why you wouldn't just get a custom piece done.
Mason Price
You all wasted your money
I'm a famous touring artist and I play an ibanez gio
Isaac Diaz
Hello Mr. Satriani I think a gio or like the absolute bottom tier RG was the first guitar I ever bought kek, served me faithfully for many a year before getting a schecter in high school, and then sperging out and going through a whole bunch of different shit later on that made no sense like a semi hollow tele with a warmoth wizard neck.
Brody Hall
Or... It would be easier to swallow your pride and realise that you can get well by on common, stable and replaceable tools. Things eventually break or go wrong - having redundancy plans in place make your job way easier.
Elijah Bailey
What do you think my post was even about?
Easton Brooks
Yes yes yes that's all common sense and boring to point out, that's why we gotta hit ya with the >lmao this fucking poorfag, cope harder Yea Forums is not a place for serious discussion, it's a place for famous people to post expensive ugly head stocks c'mon dude
Mason Sullivan
Reread my reply. You're literally just restating what's already been said
Ayden Sanchez
Two of the posts hes replying to are just me larping as jackson brah lmao. Id never buy a guitar I wouldn't be comfortable jumping into the crowd with, because that's kind of the expectation for the genre I play
Easton Diaz
I need a suggestion. I used to play bass and guitar 5 years ago, then completely stopped. At the moment I have the instruments and a pedal board, but I no longer possess an amp. Right now I would like to start practicing again, but I don't think it's a good idea to buy a new amp since I will mostly play alone. Any alternative suggestions? I'm a boomer so I know nothing about playing on PC and such.
Logan Roberts
You want the extremely low budget poorfag high-school me edition? Buy a line6 tone port for 50 bucks, and use the free version of podfarm. Profit. Non poorfag? There are loads of audio interfaces that will do a good job, and plenty of amp simulating software both free and paid that can do a great job, but range anywhere from slightly overpriced to majorly overpriced. If you're just wanting a little practice amp it's hard to go wrong these days
Ayden Reyes
Squier seems overpriced. Get a used Yamaha, Aria or Ibanez, those pop up a lot. Or a new Harley Benton.
As for the amp: You can go with a DI/Preamp thing into a computer, or a tiny Class D amp head into a cab. Maybe you could get lucky and score a nice old valve head or a big cab if you look around your local used market.
Asher Lewis
I'll concede that the snark went over my head. I'm a bit too used to the idiocy of other forums (TDPRI, offsetguitars, reddit, TGP) where people are seriously way up their ass with money = skillzzzzz
Colton Rivera
All good m8, it's like that in every hobby desu shooting, lifting, cars, you name it. People at the range listen to the guy with a 3k glock even though he shoots like shit, or the guy with 50k in his WRX even though hes slow as fuck around the track, or who has a 600lb deadlift even though hes running grams of gear. Just a byproduct of rampant consumerism. Once I actually got better than almost everyone I knew at guitar I realized that buying expensive shit was fucking retarded, because I also realized somewhere out there is some 8 year old chink on a gio making me look like a droopy eyed armless orphan, like that jap girl who played with Polyphia at the age of like 12 or whatever.
Parker Garcia
Hell, I'll admit that my pitfall is pedal snobbery. I love programming effects (pic relevant, my pride and joy. Roast me.) and synthesizers (analog and digital) outside playing guitar. I do it for fun out of my pocket, hopefully yalls do the same.
I like your board user. It's really cool, I'm too retarded to work my head around digital effects Thats another thing, I think people here need to stop shitposting about what guitar they have and just play for the hell of it. Definitely a more productive use of their time, no wonder people get angry when people ask them to play, because they seem to spend more time talking about their instruments than actually playing them. Elitism is nasty
Christopher Watson
Pedals are one thing I mostly wont give someone a bit of shit about paying extra for, because you just cant compare a boss reverb to an ED or similar boutique reverb, most boutique pedals are extremely unique things. I want an avalanche run so fucking bad but cant justify the purchase. I want a big pedal board full of all kinds of shit, but right now I just have my axe fx, and a DL4+an EQ gathering dust in my closet. I unironically want to get a korg miku That's because learning to play well is hard and spending money is easy desu
Julian Roberts
And by boss reverb I meant the cheap stomp boxes, not what you've got going on there I've never even seen that before lmao
Nicholas Wood
so everyone here can hear a note in their mind and instantly find it on the guitar down to the fret right?
Connor Collins
I came upon this new piece, it's based around a form of melodic minor, I play the bass note and hold it while playing a simple blues whole tone trill then move the bass note to unexpected places. It has a Portishead feel to it, dark and moody. Then to a minor chord which I play a -7b5 scale over and to a new inversion of a dominant 7 then to a min/maj7 completing the cadence (almost a 2 5 1). Then to a major , down a step to a 7+9, repeat.
Keeps me occupied.
Jackson Hernandez
Post clips nigga aint nobody here know a fuck about theory and shit goddamn chill just play it bruh c'mon
Sebastian Jackson
I got things to do.
Jackson Collins
I am running Boss effects for the end of my chain (DL/RV500) - basically Strymon equivalents. The reverb has a max decay of 10 s. This limitation is actually good - it prevents me from just playing one note and "just playing effects", a pitfall everybody has if you play at home, alone.
The Zooms pedals are functionally programmable boutique pedals. You can stack up to 6 effects in any order, with various lo-fi variants of most effects. It effectively gives you access to 12 extra pedals, should you need it.
Chase Lopez
And then the next thing you'll know they'll be putting a disco beat to it, harvesting a sample from my erotic phone chat and they'll all be dancing to it in the clubs. And you know the worst thing? I won't get a broad bean farthing out of it.
Joshua Fisher
That's badass. I have the opposite problem, unless it's something obvious like reverb I almost never use effects in my music, I barely use delay even. Then I listen to Night Verses or Minus the Bear and realize I'm missing out on so much more I could be doing with my music. Even Chon has started incorporating effects in their new album and desu it sounds fucking heavenly so far, especially in Petal and the clip Mario posted to his Instagram of the unreleased song.
Jeremiah Gutierrez
dude why would you write it out in a paragraph when you could just spell a simple chord progression
Carter Martin
Its a pasta
Jacob Russell
Let's be clear here. Playing effects is an extra dimension to your style. Meaning your other pillars (equipment, theory, agility) inform your usage of effects. Although math rock (not CHON, they're a metal band for edgy kids) takes this to a pretty far extreme, you don't need to be playing at that level to be content. There's many ways to go with effects, but less is always more for your own style.
Ian Thompson
Because it's not that simple, part is melody only with a bass line so there isn't an implied chord . Then I'd have to write -7 but also notate the -7b5 scale overlaid. And then, I'm unsure of the alt dom 7 chord spelling as I made it up and ain't worked out the notes.
Carter Rodriguez
Ctrl+v whatever.
Jason James
You're either baiting, or mixing up Chon with Polyphia. Or is covet also metal for edgy kids? Regardless, chon and polyphia both have taken their music to a whole new level when they stopped just running dry amp signals, obviously effects don't make the man but if the tools are available to add more layers to your music you're not less or more of a musician for using them, it's just different music. You've just managed to say nothing while also sounding like a total faggot desu
Julian Perry
Dude just post a clip
John Reyes
They bored me to tears in Newborn Sun and I didn't get back on board after. Same story with Covet and Polyphia. I do enjoy math rock: just not cold, dead shredding.
Ayden Nelson
I'm not even going to be an asshole on this one, if you haven't listened since newborn sun you need to give them and polyphia another listen. they've both matured in a big way musically. Covet I appreciate for their skill and musicality but their music is a bit boring for me overall. For CHON look up Continue? And for polyphia check out Rich Kids. You may not be into it, but to say its soulless shredding is just wrong, and I'd agree that newborn sun a d especially early polyphia was soulless shredding. I used to fucking hate polyphia with a passion, but new levels new devils is one of my favorite albums in recent memory, despite not really enjoying trap music or instrumental guitar in an album length setting.
seriously bros is there a cleaner live guitar duo than these two? say what you will about their music, they play some incredibly difficult pieces with almost zero gain, and sound perfect show after show after show.
Ayden Nelson
Look into John Scofield
Eli Nguyen
How old is too old for black metal?
Angel Green
You're never too old.
But playing or listening to it publicly beyond your 20's is pretty sad
Parker Roberts
Birelli Lagrene , Standards, it's about the best there is.
Yep, you can plug straight into an interface and use DAW or a different guitar amp emulation software (check out Guitar Rig or Amplitube). Using this method sounds way better than a crappy practice amp although it might make practice a little more difficult since it's tricky to play songs simultaneously with DAWs. Maybe get practice amp with a headphones out?
As for the bass. Go to a store and try different stuff out. You might prefer the tone and feel of a modern bass or maybe you'll enjoy the classics (p-bass, jazz bass) more. Squier makes good stuff (especially the older classic vibe stuff). Ibanez SR-series, Yamaha BB and RBX series are worth checking out.
Second hand is they way to go if you want a quality instrument for cheap. Just make sure the neck is straight, there's no buzz on the frets and that the electronics are working.
It's not snake oil. I've played dozens of PRS Custom 24s and that money buys you consistency and quality. Perfectly shaped frets, perfectly cut nuts, perfect tuning stability and perfect playability. I can get the action down as close as the strings touching the frets and there's no buzz. You're paying for American labour, quality control and of course, the aesthetics. Only some begrudging poorfag would claim a $600 guitar made in the Korean World Guitar factory is *identical* to a core PRS.
Angel Ortiz
But PRS are ugly bastard guitars. Do you really want to sound like Santana?
Eli Miller
For real you can get a $240 guitar with a lesser known brand and they are as good and made in the same factory if not better quality.
Also $1,000 - $2,000 guitars, forget it, it's just vanity really. You could buy a $300 Yamaha, and play better and sound better and if you want add $100 pickup upgrade. And it'll be unique and different.
Anyway didn't Gibson go out of business or was that Marshall?
Brandon Kelly
Hows it play
Nicholas Long
Get a job, buy a Gibson and thank me later
Kayden Gonzalez
Plays ok. The neck is backbowed so I'm hoping the string tension will help pull it back into shape. So far its helping but it's a waiting game as to see how much. I picked it up for $10 and put some time and parts into it. I'm going to give it to my nephew.
Hudson Bailey
I guess. Does he even care about guitars?
Gabriel Rodriguez
Trey Azagthoth with Morbid Angel gets plenty sick with those amps. :dude:dude
Couple of tips from working on his rig, don't over estimate how much gain and distortion you really need. Over-cooking it just mushes out in the mix. Great just jamming in the garage or whatever by yourself but performing doesn't benefit from that. Trey is running the clean channel with a Rat and an EQ pedal, that's it, and the channel on the amp is nowhere near maxed out. He keeps the controls on the gain channel all the way down and switches to that for a stage mute. Trey's amps have all been converted to run EL34. That is a worthwhile mod. For the rest of it, I'd say run it as is and learn to work with what's there.
James Phillips
No, I'm going to give it to him because he likes clowns.
Anthony Richardson
I guess they're not lying when they say juggalos are a family.
Elijah Jones
>tfw anti chinkshit >tfw the exact tubes im looking for are chinese. Fucking hell
>20k guitar. I don't think I could ever really justify that.
Aiden Edwards
Dont reply to retarded bait please.
Chase Cox
I wouldn't know
Joshua Watson
In reply to my argument yesterday starting with this post: I just found this video: youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=qiPt0U54HAY Which proves my 2 posts here and here correct
Got paid off, bought a $220 beau-ti-ful 335-a-like that would have cost x3 with a Gibson decal. I'm good thanks.
Henry Williams
no ones saying they're identical, but I would argue a $600 korean guitar with a $50 luthier setup gets you close enough to where the difference in cost is simply not worth it, even accounting for better pups, that's another $260 or so, and you're still well below the range of a boutique guitar, but with boutique guitar performance.
adjust the truss rod homey
>he thinks the guitar affects your overall tone more than 10%
id make fun of your cable management, but considering every single component in my PC just fried, I think I'll just commit suicide instead
Juan Diaz
>adjust the truss rod homey It's a one-way rod
Xavier Perez
No i just want more gain. And its a mesa boogie dual rec copy so it would be cool to have
Gavin Foster
Get a job anyways $600 korean guitar with $300 pair of pickups wipes the floor with any nigson
William Stewart
Buy a new neck. Your stupid ass nephew wont know the difference anyways so just get chinkshit.
The question here is if all of those specs are worth the notable price difference. If I'm paying for American labor, I'd rather pay an American luthier that can personally adjust my guitar to reach its full potential. And believe me, I've done it, and I've seen those $500 Chinese manufactured archtops end up feeling and sounding pretty close to the current top of the line |||non-vintage||| models, just with a set of quality strings and a couple days of expert craftsmanship. So yeah, call me poor or whatever but sound and tone don't lie.
Nathan Morris
What are the better low end fender strats
Ryan Fisher
Any one of us can croak at any given moment. Not saying youre not healthy just that death has no schedule.
Cameron Mitchell
What are you selling?
Kevin White
And?
Nathaniel Evans
>fingers still hurt from yesterday's practice
FUCK. I just want to practice all day but I physically can't....
Robert Mitchell
Just buy a new neck while youre fiddling with that one. Or dont i dont care.
Joseph Martin
Why though? If I fix that one, then I have another extra neck lying around.
Joshua Jenkins
Smoke some weed.
Aaron Gray
Exactly. Now you can make a partscaster for your self.
Xavier Cooper
>Smoke some weed this helps? I'm not sure if I can learn while tripping balls
Evan Rogers
No one told you to trip balls. Its a natural antihistamine
Evan Williams
nobody in here actually plays, we just call each other poor
rode of their name and forgot to make good guitars. also they're all neck heavy(SG) or an absolute boat anchor(LP)
Oliver Flores
I already am
Nolan Campbell
I play
And you're poor
Camden Harris
You already have a neck for it?
Parker Evans
>someone didn't read the OP guitar players and poorfags not allowed
Oliver Thomas
yes
Xavier Jones
No one reads the OP
Josiah Stewart
frankly, I don't know how to read.
Jackson Jones
Then use that for your nephews and use the neck youre waiting to fix for it
Angel Sanders
why?
Kayden Bennett
Huh?
Josiah Nelson
a guy who transcribed some holdsworth lines, prolly a /gg/uy personality tho.
Jaxson Campbell
HERES AN ARTICLE FOR MY TUBE AMP AUTISTS FRENS. I VOTE IT SHOULD BE IN THE OP TO FURTHER ENRAGE POORFAGS
maybe, just maybe. I'd post some shit, but my entire PC just completely nuked itself. My PSU crapped out, and took every single component with it. So now I'm down 600, with 200 in the bank, and 400 dollar rent due next week, with the summer semester starting tomorrow and I haven't bought books yet, because of the whole 200 burgers thing. So I'm thinkin suicide might be the right move desu.
Benjamin Murphy
Dont know what qft is but please delete your image. Any sound clips?
what amp? Pretty crunchy tone desu i like it, sounds like a 6505 or clone/sim thereof? Or am I totally off. Sounds too dark to be a marshall, but not trebly enough to be a dual rec/trirec clone.
Bentley Moore
>quoted for truth Please lurk more. Sure, here's a old af sucky demo when I got a Boss RV-500: youtu.be/ickvCZ6tW_A
David Stewart
>lurk moar Ive been on this shit site too long. My bad for not being up to date with zoomer shit. What the fuck even is this video?
Gavin Adams
Its either my jcm900 or my joyo bantamp zombie(dual rec copy). I dont remember but im inclined to say its the joyo. My jcm900 can be a dark or bright amp depending on treble and presence settings
Wyatt Morales
sound breddy good desu, I like it. a jcm800 is on my shortlist of amps to buy, very few high gain amps have enough channels and settings minus shit that's way out of my price range.
what do you think of this? if you can guess how I got this tone I would be extremely surprised, but I'll give a hint, it's ghetto as fuck
Gonna put the stock preamp tubes back in my jcm900 when i get home. It has shuguangs but theyre the new ones. Imma see if the 90s shuguangs sound hotter.
Luke Johnson
Jcm800 is a very loud amp in case you didnt know. Its hard to get hi gain out of one at low volume Is it a metal zone?
Jose Martin
someone out there makes a brand new guitar for $32k. it's diamond studded.
waiting for the day lil wayne will buy it
Carson Thomas
yeah, I'm planning on boosting with my tubescreamer. if I ever join a band again thats more interested in making music than smoking weed.
And nope, I would've spent more money on a metalzone lmao, and that would potentially sound good. Atleast, Trap Them and Entombed make them sound good. That's a toneport running through the free, demo version of line6 toneport, which has like, 3 or 4 amps available a couple simulated boxes. sounds pretty good for it is I think
Tyler Cooper
Look up the custom uli roth dean And it didnt spund bad but the guitar had troubke cutting through the mix.
Nathaniel Allen
Yeah it sounded like decent hi gain. The line 6 vetta ii is coveted for its hi gain strangely enough. Sounds like you need bandmates that do 'caine
Dominic Myers
Cool bait brah. Told you it's garbage already dipshit. Heard QFT like 2004 - get back inna crib babby.
Nathaniel Diaz
Used jcm900s have gone up a average of $150 since last year. I wonder why.
Henry Phillips
But can you smell what the rock is cooking? Literally first time ive seen qft posted. Its probably plebbit shit.
Benjamin Diaz
thanks man, the mix got nuked a bit putting it in vocaroo, on my soundcloud the guitars are overpoweringly trebly and sound like shit. through my cars speakers its absolutely awful.
thanks man, honestly I've been surprised by how decent it can sound if it's mixed worth a damn. you can get by for a while with it. I prefer it to using fucking Bias AMP, I used that shit for all of like, 4 months before it ireedemably and irreversibly crashes, on multiple systems, all the fucking time.
Heres demo podfarm on a demo of the new project I'm working on vocaroo.com/i/s0cMVdQAxg58 plz don't bully about the sloppy takes, I was writing/tracking at the same time so I wouldn't forget what the fuck I was doing later on, and haven't gotten the chance to go back and re-record it, since my PC got nuked. posting from a thinkpad rn
Second one sounds cool tho kinda directionless. You the one with the hybrid tele strat right? Sounds like a tele.
Jace Mitchell
thanks man. Yeah I wanted to go back and actually flesh out like, any of it, but now I can't. I wrote and tracked all that in about an hour. Nope I'm the PRS fag from last night, thats just running through podfarm with a fender amp sim and the pick up switch set to the middle. Maybe I got lucky with my pups, but they're dumbass versatile.
Jordan Reyes
Oh and i finally bought an a/b y switch. From some dude that makes them in alabama. Smokin amp co.
Alexander Smith
Post prs i dont think i saw it. Yeah prs are pretty versatile. Here in l.a theyre the t.v. stage bands choice.
Landon Gonzalez
pirate TH3 and use a simulation of a Randall. dont forget to scoop that shit.
Wyatt Campbell
lol fucking newfag day laborer
Bentley Lewis
For what reason? I like the low end my jcm900 gives me. Im a guitar straight into tube amp autist. But i have been using ampire on my pc. I still prefer the sound of a physical amp. I plan on buying a power soak for the jcm900 so i can push the power tubes harder and im going to a/b it with the dual rec clone for tremendous gain and low end boom. Theres no replacement for chest thumping boom of a half/fullstack.
Kayden Jones
I got btfo by that dude with the $3k hockey stick kek, gotta admit when ya get got. I love this guitar more than any other I've owned so far, and it's mostly due to the neck. Thinner than a fender, not as thin as a wizard, better shape than a schecter, for me it's just right. Also I rough up the finish on the back with a scotch brite pad periodically, making it a satin feel instead of sticky gloss. 100% nwah
And the attention hungry baby has arrived >rent free
Caleb Anderson
scoop your sound then, your shit remind me so much of dimebag.
Carter Brown
Aka your bully lol
Hudson Lopez
Are the fender min traditional 80 strats any good or should I get a mim strat
Jeremiah Jackson
Oh i actually did see it. We are WmiC brothers. I was gonna get a prs but i found a good deal on my custom 550 fr so i got it instead. Its the better metal guitar
fuck yea chink guitars. I did go through a phase where I had a fender semi hollow tele, that I then replaced the neck with a warmoth wizard 2. felt pretty good honestly, but I can't play that kind of neck for hours and hours. I don't even have mongolian hands that shit just cramps me up. got any videos of you playing? I think I have a couple I could post without doxxing myself probably
Liam Stewart
Whats wrong with that? Dimebag and srv were my inspirations for starting guitar. Pic rel is what my settings usually look like on my jcm900. On the joyo theres only a gain tone and volume knob.
Look at the presence knob. My jcm900 is not a bright ice picky amp. And my gain is on 20 buddy take a closer look.
Jose Davis
fugggg, koreans are gooks? I thought that was vietnamese. Aren't koreans zipperheads? I've got a video of me playing the first bit of stabwound pretty shittiliy I could probs doctor into being postable.
well goddamn, this one goes to 11 and beyond. not my personal tone taste but if you're going for the dimebag sound you're nailing it desu
I'll post it in a minute or so, gotta mess with it a bit. It's not a good video because I record and monitor through headphones, so when I take a video of me playing I have to prop my phone up against the headphones and turn them up loud as fuck so you can hear enough of it to hear me fuck up consistently. Pretty fun to attempt to learn though, especially since I've never really been a lead player ever.
Christopher Campbell
I started playing late 2018 and own an epi les paul special 2, what would be a good upgrade? I mostly play metal. I like SG's but the Gibsons are out of my budget.
>What would be a good upgrade Getting a new amp or retubing your current one if you fell for the all tube meme A professional setup including a new nut and fretwork
Kevin Howard
Probably should have added I already got a new amp a few months back. I'm just overwhelmed with the variety in guitars and need some suggestions to look into.
Nicholas Barnes
What's wrong with your guitar? Did you break the headstock off?
>herpes lasts a lifetime Good investment honestly.
Jackson Peterson
Decent hookers are just hookers that don't have something yet
The kind where part of the cost is showing written proof from a doctor that you don't have anything
Charles Watson
7 nation army
Aiden Diaz
Im pretty sure this is trachefag
Jordan Adams
God bless those hookers for not forging any kind of documentation because with the profits from 2500 bucks they cant and wont do it. Youre a fucking sap.
Eli Roberts
nope
James Taylor
so I went through all this trouble off making a webm of the .mov file I had, all using the glorious efficient power of FOSS software, on my ever powerful thinkpad x201s, and then went to post it and Yea Forums reminded me im a fucking brainlet and that you can't post big webms or webms with audio on this board, so, unless someone can help a retard out we can't all laugh at my poor video editing skills and poor guitar playing skills
