I have no idea, but I like it too :3 Think Dandelion Gum holds up as their best still, but I thought Panic Blooms was very good, probably my second favourite from them.
Cooper Gutierrez
I think he gets a bit repetitive but this guy is awesome, really trippy music.
Cooper Young
Cobra Juicy> Dandelion Gum> Panic Blooms> Eating Us> The rest.
His solo stuff is great. Demon Queen was an awesome side project. Malibu Ken kind of sucked.
I think he's at his best when he goes for faster rhythms.
Check tobacco's Ripe & Majestic (Instrumental Rarities & Unreleased Beats), great tracks in there. Good times last year eating acid and listening this album
Jack Turner
Everybody seems to dismiss Eating Us, but I think it's some of his strongest songwriting ever. The arrangements stand on their own, even if the production is a little too sterile for his style. The songs are great live, too.
>does he quantize things or not? He apparently doesn't quantize anything, which is part of what gives his songs loose feel. Here's an interview where he breaks down the production of "Gods in Heat" and touches on all that.
Start a people will forever be my favourite. I have no idea why.
Jack Miller
That one is pretty good too! I liked that it was career spanning for him. A few tracks on there sounded like Maniac Meat, which is awesome.
I'd kill for a vinyl repress of it.
Kevin Nguyen
The whole album has an excellent drum mix. Very cool production on the first track and Iron Lemonade especially.
Ryder Wilson
cool thread
Oliver Allen
Yeah, Dave Fridmann is great at mixing drums in general.
"Gold Splatter" is probably my favorite track on there. I saw the Stargazer Lilies do a shoegaze cover of it when they were opening for BMSR last year, and it was amazing. I haven't been able to find any recordings of that version, sadly.
Adrian Howard
I saw them live at the black cat in DC and they blew me the fuck away. Going to see them at the same place in september.
Hudson Edwards
>Stargazer Lilies I saw them open up for BMSR, the whole band is really cool when I met them at their merch table before I got seven fields (Tobacco's wife?) to sign my cassette copy of "panic blooms". She was so sweet, and gave me a big hug when I said that "Dandelion Gum" got me through my serious problems with seasonal depression.
Henry Sullivan
TOBACCO is probably my favorite producer out there. Dude's beats can be its own genre
My favorite release of his is Sweatbox Dynasty, but nobody else seems to enjoy it, which is strange to me. I also recently got into his project before BMSR, Satanstompingcaterpillars. A lot of the songs are just BMSR demos, but the song Aphid is sooo good. I'd highly recommend if you're into the more raw side of BMSR like Falling Through A Field
Jordan Robinson
>Satanstompingcaterpillars My dude!.
Colton Fisher
I totally feel you man, start a people jsut feels so genuine and kinda juvenile, in the best way possible It feels like a mid-20s guy trying to reach out best he knows how. Its not the most enjoyable of tobaccos work but its the most emotionally powerful and resonant. Definitely emo music.
Aaron Peterson
I want to test your knowledge, what happened that made tobacco focus more on music? >hint, an injury
I know basically nothing about tobacco as an person. Just Ive followed and loved his music for the last 5 years or so. If theres a story behind it please share, love to hear it
Nathaniel Wilson
fucked himself up doing flatland bmx
Aaron Miller
Yup, man I remember those huge knurled pegs from Odyssey Dan's Comp sold back in the day. Fuck I'm getting old.
Joseph Scott
thanks user, thats what I thought about quantize. Gonna check the interview, blessings.
Isaac Morgan
Falling Through A Field is my favourite from them. Am I retarded?
Josiah Anderson
thats cool, fucked my back last year and BMSR music help me to pass december sane.
Daniel Rodriguez
No.
Chase Davis
what did seven fields smell like? just asking
Adam Sanchez
Perfume and girl sweat, creep.
Jackson James
>Brandon of all people calls you a creep
Alexander Barnes
the music is good but formulaic
James Stewart
me too
Carter Reyes
Sweatbox Dynasty has some strong tracks but it's really all over the map. A lot of the songs feel kind of unfinished. I really love Ultima II Massage, but this just felt like b-sides from that album.
Evan Hall
Eating Us has always been my favourite. I was taken aback when I first discovered it's generally considered their weakest.
Ryan White
I much prefer his BMSR stuff than his solo stuff, although I still really like the solo stuff. BMSR gives me lush nature-feels, whereas Tobacco gives me mechanical wasteland-feels.
Isaac Bailey
bbbuuummmppp
Joshua Collins
ah well, the thread was decent while it lasted.
Christian Reyes
Thanks for the cozy if brief BMSR thread anons. Probably my favourite band ever and they rarely get brought up here
