She grew up on a farm. Her mom played piano and listened to a lot of irish folk music, one of her brothers was into a lot of prog and photography, the othet brother was really into the local music scene and folk music from all over the place, he like collected rare instruments or something, her dad would sit and listen to everything she wrote while she wad a little girl and her and her bros collaborated with their art all during her childhood. She learned the violin in school but hated it. Peter and David both described her family as middle class and her dad was a country dr. in the 60s and 70s in the UK. Ad it’s already been said, she grew up in a highly artistic family which also happened to be wealthy. However it’s ridiculous to call her an industry plant, as that term implies some type of fake diy started-from-the-bottom persona which Kate never assumed. She never hid her background or anything like that. It’s also different these days, because someone as daring as Kate Bush wouldn’t be given a record deal in a major label. It’s simply a fact that pop music was in a very different place back then, being highly influenced by prog and folk, which allowed for complex songwriting and experimental tendencies to be cherished by label execs. It would be great if industry plants or major pop artists were still sophisticated songwriters and producers like Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel were.
