The only thing Nirvana has over The Smashing Pumpkins is brand recognition and Kurt's vocals. Billy just smashes them in every other aspect including not blowing a hole in his own head.

In Utero had no new writing, it was a rework of old outtakes and other weak songs that never made it onto albums. Simple as

And In Utero is easily the better album

This is the correct answer. Kurt's vocals are the only thing In Utero has on Siamese Dream. And even those are made redundant when you consider Billy's guitar playing, which gets pretty insane at times. Also, In Utero doesn't really hold up that well on repeated listens, unlike Siamese.

I mean he never really branched out the same way the Smashing Pumpkins did. They went on to make Mellon Collie, and although it’s flawed it covers a lot of ground. Meanwhile the last song we heard from Kurt was You Lnow You’re Right which is probably the worst thing he wrote.

But you're right, even on SD you have the shoegazish Cherub Rock, the Mayonaise and Soma bombastic ballads, the dream poppish Sweet Sweet and Spaceboy, the chamber pop of Disarm and the prog rockish Hummer, Rocket and Geek USA with all their dynamic shifts and structure. In Utero has nowhere near this amount of diversity.

Oceania is fantastic and has a pretty spacious unique sound to it. Shiny and Zeitgeist had a few pretty good tunes. Teargarden was mostly a shitfest with like 2 good songs.

How the fuck could anyone actually enjoy smashing pumpkins? They're so poppy and boring that it's physically impossible for anyone who has patrician ears to actually endure this torture in audio form. Especially disarm, like how can that shitty and sleepinducing song be the most popular from siamese dream? Says a lot about how good the rest of the album is. In Utero. I've been listening to Siamese Dream my entire life since my friends and parents love it but really it's just an okay album with a few good songs, just like every smashing pumpkins album.
